Thank you so much for this! I know it’s an old video but still very helpful and the best one i’ve found yet! Cheers to you guys and a happy 2024 full of dirtbikes and beer!✊🏻😝
A good way to pack the bearings with grease is to put a big blob of grease on your palm and then tap the bottom of bearing into the grease over and over until you start to see grease coming out the gap at the top - it'll also squeeze out between the rollers. With the bottom bearing in place I dump a ton of grease around the top of the bearing and tap down on it until I start to see grease squeeze out between the rollers. I've just done this on my EXC 500 and I've put the o-ring in a safe place and now can't find the bloody thing.
Dude, just pack the bearing the same you would on tapered wheel bearing on a car. Just slab grease in you palm and cup the bearing in it until grease pushes all the way through. Quick and easy and completly fills the bearings with grease.
Why did you waste time removing all of the controls, cables, and wiring from the handlebars? Once the forks are out and the top bolt is out and the top pinch bolt is loose, just pull it up and set it all on a towel on the gas tank. Any questions?
Is the top o ring you put on last supposed to be slightly oversized? Mine looks like it’s just about to big and will squashed a lot once the top clamp is tightened down..
It's actually supposed to squash down a bit to provide pressure against the top triple clamp so the center (hold down) bolt won't loosen due to vibration.
Thank you so much this helped tremendously as I’m not a expert on bike maintenance or rebuilding stuff. I have a 2018 yz 125 but everything is pretty much the same!!!
While I'm here, who told you Red 'n Tacky was the grease you should use? There are half a dozen waterproof and saltwater proof greases available that are way better. The best (I've found) are from CRC and Bel-Ray. I've worked with many mechanics who simply will not use Red 'n Tacky due to past bearing/race failures after using it...
who ever showed you had a pack of bearing needs sum schooling.. if you don't have a bearing Packer put a glob of grease on your palm of your hand. put the bearing around your knuckle in work it in that way

Thanks. The music is a nice touch.

I was thinking the same thing, lol
I did the same, only disassembled the front brake pump and set it apart with the left fork leg
So do you tighten the top nut then the clamp or visa versa? I was hoping you were going to cover reassembly
tighten top nut to remove play then clamp
Top nut first, then the clamp. Same as your front axle. Nut first, then pinch bolts always
Dont forget to fill your keyhole (locking the steering) with hard silicone or glue...otherwise your steering bearings will rust after washing.
Ahh...I see no keyhole on the motocrosser:)
never thought about that, thanks fellow enduro rider :')
Song title?

Good question btw! Thanks Daveboy.

Team mechanics must clean and repack weekly.
What would cause a bunch of gay grease underneath the clamps I have a 97 cr250

Nor at all. Everyone has their own ways. No need to talk trash.
exactly

Yea let's show the up and coming generation of DIYers and aspiring pro mechanics not use nitrile gloves. Amatuer hour over here.
Which team do you work for ?
