This video SPEAKS to me. I have struggled so much in this job. However, I have changed my mindset in almost every way you mentioned, and it has transformed my outlook. I am a journal-er, a walker, I try to think of ways that will help me feel BETTER, and I reflect almost constantly on what I can do to hold on tight to my love for teaching. Even with all of my lifestyle changes and tweaks throughout the years, I still have horrific days that make me want to run. My goal is to look this life calling directly in the eyes and keep doing it despite all odds--but without losing myself. Thanks for recording and sharing this; it was very validating!
THANK YOU. I knew I wasn't the only one. It's a hard profession if you have a negative mindset or do not take care of yourself. We are pulled in too many directions and forced to make ends meet on the daily. Thank you for being MY validation as well 👍
Wow, hats off to you. Wishing you a great summer and school year! We can get better over time, or we can let those "I am over it" vibes sweep us up. It's very tempting sometimes, lol.
I begin my 32nd year of teaching elementary school in August, and I wrote a letter back in 1992 to my third grade teacher. He said to find strength and enjoyment in what things go well during the academic day. He stated not to dwell too much on what did not work out well. I can also say that a teacher has to learn how to manage his or her energy over the months and years because there will be moments of burn out, but those can be tempered or controlled. Thank you for your video presentation. Take care.
Thank you for sharing, and wow, 32 years! It says a lot that you continue to teach and share your insight. The letter idea...I am inspired. Perhaps I will write something to a grade school teacher who inspired me, and even a college professor.
Thank you for your feedback. As people I think we feel more inclined to raise awareness about something negative. I get it, but we should take time to share the positive as well
Great video! Yes! Relationships! When people reflect on their time in school as a student or teacher, they rarely recount the academic lessons, but more their experiences and relationships. Also, I attended a presentation today that said that statewide (in Georgia), actually MORE people are going into education fields in college, but not all of them are taking jobs in education. We are trying to address this. Good for you for sharing what motivates you and brings fulfillment as an educator. TH-cam has enough people that are contributors to a more toxic view of public education. Kids need educators like you that continue to make connections that they will remember forever!
Thank you. It's funny how we hear different data because I am hearing about various incentives being put into place for more people to apply. I think the larger issue is keeping teachers, in my personal experience. Every year I hear about another teacher I know leaving. The reasons I hear are related to the workload. They will find state jobs that match or exceed their current salary. Young teachers land jobs in the most random, creative places. You are right about the negativity around teaching on social media. I will raise awareness about some issues myself, but some people really take it to extremes. It's easier to complain than the other way around. People tend to be quiet when things are good. Thank you for the feedback!
@@teachingwithalexa You are right. I think the statistic is that 50% leave within 5 years. The flip side is, those that make it beyond 5 years stick with it, I’m guessing! We all have stories about being a much stronger teacher after struggling for the first year or two. 👍

10th grade English teacher for over 15 years; thank you for the reminder before the start of a new school year. I still love my job as well.

This speaks volumes. It seems that we only hear from those who are leaving the profession. Thank you for the vid. ❤
