I was hoping you mentioned the ambient lighting bro. Using Ambient lightning at night casts lots of distracting reflections in your windows of vehicles around you. These are valid concerns that all Car Makers need to address & customers need to be aware of when choosing a new car. Mercedes took a wrong approach overall, they went to wrong direction. Mercedes was great on the right path but last 5 years they have messed it up big times! A 6 year old kid can do a better job than those engineers.
I don’t know about the y6year old but i understand your point. To me the W222 was the best S Class but they had to make a new car with a different design.
Totally agree! Replacing tactile buttons with touchscreens is a disaster from a safety and functionality perspective. And yes, the flush door handles are terrible and less convenient! Regressive tech fail! Following Tesla with these features (and electrification) was a big mistake!

W223 Owner here... I know this was your personal experience, but some of it feels overblown. My car is only a year old, so they may have tweaked the later models. My climate control and audio controls are always at the bottom of the screen, and my adaptive cruise settings are always on. I don't have to go into the menu at full speed to change anything. My door handles pop out whenever I'm within a couple feet of the car; they almost pop out too often. It's idiotic not to have a next/skip button on the steering wheel. The seats require some trial and error and frequent tweaking until you have them positioned in a way that works for you. The automatic seat adjuster (based on height) did not work well for me. While I love the car, I 100% agree that if the Mercedes engineers/management had spent more time in this car's driver's seat, very simple and practical items would not have been present. Hopefully, they have heard your and other concerns and correct things for the refresh next year. Enjoy the 7 series!
Sadly, touch screens are not a Mercedes exclusive and one only learns the problems once one starts to drive. I have an EQS 580 SUV with the full width hyper screen. Agreed. In Mercedes convertibles it's even worse with reflections on the screens despite being able to tilt a few degrees. They went chasing Tesla and forgot most Mercedes buyers don't buy Teslas. I also have an issue with the flimsy shifter. You have to look at it to verify operation. Not intuitive at all.
I hate all these cars going just screens controls. Its hard to feel out controls for even the most basic of things. I think Genesis has the best interior design that balances this with screens and a clean physical botton array to do everything you need immediately while driving. I drove a Porsche Cayanne too and man that thing also had too many physical buttons and screens going on for driving. But I ended up prefering the GV70 over a Macan or Cayanne for a daily. Just comfortable and designed well. I recommend you try a G80 or G90 that solves almost all the problems you just mentions. I just gave up on the German brands for a lot of quality issues for all that money.
I have a 2022 E450 All-Terrain and a 2024 GLE450, and really happy with both. Both of them have just the right amount of tech, with the 2 side-by-side 12.x" screens. Even though many functions can be done via voice commands (many of the things you stated in the video can be solved, without you having to click on the screen), I personally dislike not having redundant controls that are not integrated into the screen. The current GLE/GLS and the prior-gen E-class/S-class have the tech level at the perfect Goldilocks level.
OMG! Spot on! I had S classes for many many years; since 1987 actually. Most recently 2008 coupe (Still have), 2011 S 500, 2017 s550, lastly 2020 S560. Then’17 and ‘20 I leased. When lease was up and I drove the ‘23…no way the door handles were the first awful thing.; so agree. The infotainment center put the nail in the casket. The 2020 was so much better with manual controls for radio and AC in addition to the menu which was NOT touch screen. It had the dial. And to boot it, the entry level S CLASS was a 6 cylinder with no throaty exhaust like the 8 cylinder and they jacked up the price! My daily is the 1995 e320 wagon I have had since new and the 2008 CL550. Never a new MB…they lost me as a customer. And you didn’t even get into the other awful thing…the run flats and rims that bent over every hump! Seven rims in 3 years! Ugh!
In Australia back in 2017 when we just stopped making cars we had Holden Commodore, Ford Falcon and Toyota Camry all three great cars. I have a holden 2013 vf sv6 commodore, modern comfortable and reliable with a dashboard and control desogn thats intuitive and makes driving safe. A phone message cones in it shows on a well placed centre screen that still keeps your eyes on the road. Climate controls are traditonal knobs with feedback showing on infortainment screen. Voice command works great for making calls and issuing sat nav commands. Boufht this car 18 months old in 2015 for AUD $31,000 and has been a pleasure to own with minimal repairs. Everything on the car feels well made and 11 years and 217,000km has never skipped a beat. Dont think even an S class would give me more enjoyment.
A new GLS is the best option then with the MBUX dual screens. They’re right up the dashboard and are touch screen unlike older models. I would go for a Maybach GLS600 with the standard obsidian black paint to keep it simple yet extremely comfortable
I drive a 2020 S560 that I got back in 2021 - and I have to say I’m glad that I chose to buy this one over the post 2021 model. I test drove the 2021 model back then and I knew immediately that I was going the get the 2020. There are just too many main functions that the post 2021 models implement into the screen that the 2020 model has physical buttons for and actual respond every time you press them. From my perspective - there was not enough stand out features to spend 30k extra just for a new 2021 S500 compared to AMG Line S560 I ended up purchasing - side note: the V8 is the absolute best part 😅 - compared to the V6 in the S500 - in conclusion, there are many features of the new S classes that individuals may find appealing - however, in my personal opinion, the 2020 W222 Model still remains my favorite S Class!
I can agree to most you said starting with door handle. I hate this handle because it’s not always working. Imagine running from thugs lol. Maybe I’m a younger guy and I can live with those low screens but I see how it can get annoying. By the way get your self new Bentley Flying Spur. Yes it’s loosing value but it’s amazing! Everything you mentioned that important to you - it has it!
You are absolutely correct. What is the relevant agencies doing about this. Regulatory agencies can stop the sale of these vehicles. For instance some states have strict laws for cell phone use while driving because its a distraction like that ugly screen. NTSB should not wait for people to die before looking into this.
air plane pilots are saying the very same...they are being asked to rely way too much on the tec which is killing their ability to "feel" the aircraft, and control it should problems arise....the inability to manage the tec in a precarious situation has brought down a few aircraft over the last several years.
I drive a 2014 Kia Cadenza SXL (Limited). It is a very hi-tech car from 10 years ago, and it has almost all the features of this car, but the touch screen, navigation, climate controls, etc., are all positioned where my eyes are still on the road.
Very valid points. I believe there's a option for Basic HUD and a Enhanced 3D HUD option. Have you had any success with using voice commands to alleviate looking at the touch screen?
I use voice command with my android auto. Is this a possibility for the radio controls and other command features? But I must say I still like buttons for common features.
I hope MB does a recall to fix these issues, a lot of the problems can be fixed in software I think. I don't own one, rocking a working class Acura TLX for now.
Only the in car navigation can be shown on the cluster. I use android auto which cannot be displayed on the gauge cluster. My car didn't have the HUD option.
I just finished taking my PM 35 hour course, and took a break to watch some car videos. Imagine my surprise .. I thought I was dreaming for a minute 😅 Thanks for this and for everything 😎
@SundayDrives And one more option that is life changeing was the 10 grade for the real axel that makes the car turning cycle like an a class. And for me at 20 yo I like the new look is more sporty but it looks insane in my opinion
While I agree with some of the concerns you've brought up, I'm left wondering why you're not using the voice commands, AKA "Hey Mercedes" feature which should mitigate several of those concerns. Bear in mind that every luxury car you may buy nowadays will have some pro & cons. No car is perfect. Just go to any car forum only to realize that one guy says "I love this car" while another guy says the opposite for the same make, model, year, trim, etc.
This was on of the reasons I bought another older American car with simple knobs and buttons even for the infotainment screen. I was looking at luxury brands but they overcomplicated the riding experience.
I love analog gauges, i just cannot buy into digital, the all look like digital alarm clock screens when i watch them through youtube. I like how my taurus is set up for simplicity, its plagued by issues THAT I CAUSED, other than that it had been wonderful to me and is a trooper. But i wish i had gotten the lincoln instead lol the 2016 mks with the lifted platform. Its like driving a honda crossover from 2012. A shame they only made one generation
I own a 2022 S 500 and have not had any of the problems. You can change the navigation to the other screen and most of the commands can be done via voice command
You cannot get android auto on the gauge cluster, only in car nav. I refuse to keep saying hey google, change song. How about just add a dam button to the steering wheel like almost every other car I have owned.

Good video, unfortunately most newer cars are going this direction, I would suggest trying Audis, A6 or A8 Technik Trim, nice low mileage used one, bargain!!!!
totally agree.... what's worse is that it also applies to other cars like BMW, Audi, Lexus, etc.... even something so simple like changing the AC temperature or fan speed now require the touchscreen... horrible, horrible idea. it's even more distracting than someone using cell phones while driving. my new BMW allows me to control AC temperature using my voice, but that's still way to distracting. when are manufacturers going to realize this? :(
I noticed the same problems. If the car shakes on a bumpy road you will hit all kinds of buttons but the one you want to touch. I'm not a big fan of the steering wheel as well.
@benz500r let me see, the driver manual, the n.t.s.a., driving schools, aarp bulletins, and many others. Accidentally risk is why navigation systems don't wok when the vehicle is in motion. Perhaps you should take an accident prevention course. The auto manufacturers know this, but assume general population does. It's obvious by your inquiry many dont
@ navigation presents a whole different issue. It requires diverting attention from the road to the screen for longer times. I’m talking about different buttons that the author of the program talked about. Many of them are manipulated while driving a car and most if not all drivers do that. The car manufacturers disclaim liability because they don’t want to be responsible for damages caused by negligent or inexperienced drivers. Having said that even the most extensive disclaimers or instructors don’t say that the drivers are prohibited from operating any of the AC, heat or entertainment systems.
You complained about the screen being low, don’t you know there’s head up display, cos with head up display the infortament navigation becomes irrelevant
I rented one at the airport. Yes, the newer Mercedes is too dangerous to drive. In order for me to see how much gas is in, I have to pull over on the FWY and find the button on the screen to display the gas gauge. At night, the interior LED interferes with the rear view mirror. I have to pull over again to look for the button on the screen to turn that off.
You should probably only get on the freeway once you figure out some things about the car. This is the same for every car, whether a Toyota, Chevy, Audi, etc. You can't just jump in a rental car and jump on the freeway. By the way, what you said about the gas gauge is not true.
No personal experience. But i agree with the problems posed by that led display and all the controls placed, down below. That display is not even angled towards the driver's face. That placement is outright wrong.
Not a Mercedes guy or prospective buyer but found your reasons quite logical! You mentioned Audi urus. What’s that? I assume you mean Audi q8 or rsq8? The Urus is Lamborghini grade so wasn’t sure what you meant, but overall I’m happy with my older Audi (2013). New ones have become too feminine both in and out. Nice land cruiser though, Toyota/lexus doesn’t disappoint.
My (oil burning ) 2017 Sonata has all the physical buttons. I love it a lot. I am on its 2nd engine. & I’ll have to keep fixing its engine every 50k miles. 😂
New Mercedes is a good until it covered by factory warranty, after that it is nightmare. If you think GM or Honda or Ford dealership expensive, you probably newer deal with Mercedes dealership.
I strongly disagree with you, your title is too outrageous. What if Mercedes decide to sue you for this misleading title? I've been driving this machine since the mid 90s and I love. You should have restricted your title to the door handle not making a general statement about Mercedes cars
when you said 'you're going to get rid this car' 'cause of the SCREEN (which I agree), didn't like the Idea that you will sell it to someone else which he or she can face with a real COLITION, instead of contacting the Benz Manufacturer and tell them specifically for the issues....
Not all is wrong with his critics. But to his tachometer hate: It looks like he never drove on German Autobahn. And he has no idea how it changes way of driving on roads without speed limits.
No I have not driven on the autobahn and exactly how many s classes will be driven their? I drive in New York City. I am generally as fast as the minivan or Prius in front of me.
I Don't believe this Car drives better than a 7 . I've had Every sclass except this Computer Store on wheels and my 2001 750il Even 24yrs Ago rode better than Any sclass. I have Not driven the Current 7 however?? It looks like Shit, but I'm certain it's a Wonderful driving car !?
@@SundayDrives I don’t have a ton of experience with Mercedes but I’ve heard a lot of negative things and my dad’s 2025 X5 40i is MILES better than my friend’s mom’s 2024 GLS450
All valid concerns to me. Why not look into a true classic S-Class? th-cam.com/video/2gEVkFahYH4/w-d-xo.html I have always driven Mercedes' from the 80's. Much of the intelligence went out of the window when Bruno Sacho left Mercedes. I don't understand the point of so much technology that serves no useful purpose. It is hard to be "entertained" and "properly informed for safety" at the same time. My steering wheel has a horn button in the center. All of the rest does not belong on the steering wheel, because it is the main navigation tool to stay on the road safely. On the classic cars you can see with your side vision the location of the buttons and feel for them. There is nothing more beautiful than a polished chrome door handle from the classic era. I would NEVER buy one, if someone gave me one, I would sell it and find a classic. Someone asked how we got to this point. I think it is because so many people are taught to just accept anything thrown at them, or because it is "trending" or what the "norm" is. They don't know or don't want to investigate and think for themselves. If more people had the opportunity to experience a real Mercedes, they would never go back or rather go forward.
I have doubt the car is yours, I am driving the same car for 2 years now. I never looked at the screen while I am driving, in S class you can use voice commands to control everything. Why he should look at the STUPID screen. Lane assist you can control it by the paddles right behind the steering wheel. It’s the most comfortable car I bought so far.

I 100% agree. I have a 2022 GLS and its perfect.
OMG! Ugh!
helpful info. good to see your new video. keep 'em coming.
"hey Mercedes" 😂😂😂
EXACTLY
Oh snap this right down the block from where I'm at crazy.
A new GLS is the best option then with the MBUX dual screens. They’re right up the dashboard and are touch screen unlike older models. I would go for a Maybach GLS600 with the standard obsidian black paint to keep it simple yet extremely comfortable
I really taught about this option and your correct. the GLS does solve all these issues, but I have enough SUVs. So I went with the BMW.
@ what BMW did you get? I’m guessing a 7 series?
740
What would you say about the Audi Cayenne? Do you recommend it.
I do, drives as good as my Audi Urus depending on the model.
He failed to mention that there are hands free options for all the adjustments that was mentioned in the video about the murder mobile.....lol
I use voice command with my android auto. Is this a possibility for the radio controls and other command features? But I must say I still like buttons for common features.
How does this gen of s class drive compared to the old w222 s class you got? Please compare.
I hope MB does a recall to fix these issues, a lot of the problems can be fixed in software I think. I don't own one, rocking a working class Acura TLX for now.
Can't you put the navigation in the cluster? Or the head up display
Only the in car navigation can be shown on the cluster. I use android auto which cannot be displayed on the gauge cluster. My car didn't have the HUD option.
Mercedes-Benz needs to give the S-Class and the C-Class the same screen like the new GLS. 👍
I just finished taking my PM 35 hour course, and took a break to watch some car videos. Imagine my surprise .. I thought I was dreaming for a minute 😅
Thanks for this and for everything 😎
thanks for the advice i was about to update from 2017 s550 to a new one
I'm 20yo and i have a s580 whit the head's up display with augmented reality with that option i don't need to take my eyes of the the road!!!!
Yes, I think so. This car didn't have that option. Also, you should have to have a HUD just to stay safe!
@SundayDrives And one more option that is life changeing was the 10 grade for the real axel that makes the car turning cycle like an a class. And for me at 20 yo I like the new look is more sporty but it looks insane in my opinion
With changing the music you are better off using CarPlay or GooglePlay and use voice commands to change the song.
No matter what kind of car you drive, always keep your eyes on the road. Don’t play game why driving😅. It is the most comfortable car that I have.
4:03 those door handles aren't much of a problem since 99% of the time you'll be clicking your key
Not him
During that whole segment of the video, I wondered why he didn't just pull out his key. It works every time!
They copied off of Tesla with the screen. Although the screen in the Benz is lower.
Ummm, you know you can have your navigation appear in your gauge cluster vs the “screen below”. You can also ask google or Siri to skip tracks.
Is voice control an option on new Mercs?
I noticed the same problems. If the car shakes on a bumpy road you will hit all kinds of buttons but the one you want to touch. I'm not a big fan of the steering wheel as well.
You shouldn't be touching buttons in motion
@@Mrmajellan123 says who?
You complained about the screen being low, don’t you know there’s head up display, cos with head up display the infortament navigation becomes irrelevant
my car didn't come with a HUD. If that was needed to make the car function in a safe way, it should have been included as standard and not an option.
Still a nice car but they dropped the ball on interior design
The ball was dropped on many other things as well
Wow, I think mercedes engineers need to see this video. This maybe the end of Mercedes.
Oh please, Mercedes is not going to "end" - although it probably will be made in China in future.
Head-UP display.....
Tell it what to do.....
If you are in busy traffic
But I agree with all your complaints....
No HUD in my car
He’s in a BMW parking lot talking negative about a Mercedes Benz. HELLO?!?!
You can put the gps in gauge cluster if you didn’t know bro
not the android auto for google maps, only the in car nav can be put into the gauge.
@SundayDrives I was thinking that however wasn't to sure, but you're definitely right only the in car nav sorry brother
I leased an s500 its not that bad there are inconvenience but i prefer it more than the bmw 7series and A8 especially if you are Chauffeurimg
Okay but can you tell me this story, but with PMP terms?
Not a Mercedes guy or prospective buyer but found your reasons quite logical!
You mentioned Audi urus. What’s that? I assume you mean Audi q8 or rsq8? The Urus is Lamborghini grade so wasn’t sure what you meant, but overall I’m happy with my older Audi (2013). New ones have become too feminine both in and out.
Nice land cruiser though, Toyota/lexus doesn’t disappoint.
He knew what he was saying, yes the Urus isan Audi RSQ8 with a Lamborghini badge.
Ever tried “hey Mercedes”?
They don't call it the Three pointed Swastika for nothing!
I agree with everything you said. Bentley and Rolls Royce did much better except the hybrid lithium battery.
Mercedes build quality isn't what it used to be either. You have to buy a Bentley now to get that bank-vault feel.
please update us on the new bmw
Japanese cars still real , others became untrusted gadjets😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
What do you do professionally? You look like an MD :)
Healthcare Education
My (oil burning ) 2017 Sonata has all the physical buttons. I love it a lot.
I am on its 2nd engine. & I’ll have to keep fixing its engine every 50k miles. 😂
Thankfully, there is a warranty extension (save your maintenance records) lol
the placement of that ugly navigation screen would be a deal-breaker for me and how would you open those doors if it had a layer of ice on it.
the handles have a heating feature for that problem
@yjuschris1 oh no they don't either. You need to do some research. How do you think you would turn that heating feature on if it had it?
@@chipbarfield62 in the app. I own the car
Over-engineered is the killer
New Mercedes is a good until it covered by factory warranty, after that it is nightmare. If you think GM or Honda or Ford dealership expensive, you probably newer deal with Mercedes dealership.
I strongly disagree with you, your title is too outrageous. What if Mercedes decide to sue you for this misleading title? I've been driving this machine since the mid 90s and I love. You should have restricted your title to the door handle not making a general statement about Mercedes cars
watch the whole video. This is my opinion and it's actually the screen layout that makes it dangerous to drive in my opinion.
Colony Germany has finally leveled its I.Q. to the level of the colonizer … BRAVO !
when you said 'you're going to get rid this car' 'cause of the SCREEN (which I agree), didn't like the Idea that you will sell it to someone else which he or she can face with a real COLITION, instead of contacting the Benz Manufacturer and tell them specifically for the issues....
Have you looked at the new BMW 7-series? BMW did an incredible job with the interior and the technology is user-friendly
yep just trade this trash for a 740 and your right it is miles better than Mercedes
@@SundayDrives huge congrats on the new 7, they are AMAZING, hoping you can make a video on it soon
the s500 does drive better than this 740.
Why don´t you buy a nice low milage S class from 2019? The last W222?
It has everything you want.
I know, I should have kept my 2019 s450.
I got a feeling he’ll be back making another complaining video about the BMW
Imagine if the stupid little touch screen breaks then your car is useless. How stupid is that.
he looks like flex but older
Hey I'll take it if you don't want it!! But you can't have my W140 😂
All valid concerns to me. Why not look into a true classic S-Class? th-cam.com/video/2gEVkFahYH4/w-d-xo.html
I have always driven Mercedes' from the 80's.
This is why i cant stand these new cars with damn screens. What happens if that screen fails.
sell it and buy an older 97' S500 - W140 , you wont complain anymore
I dont know but I would just use voice command! Hey Mercedes will control volume, temperature etc etc
Some cars are even removing dashboards now 🤡 the new Mini Cooper
I've. not bought one simply because, they've place too much gadgetry, totally un-nesesary functions...
It looks like someone paid you to say all these things , the screen is low and many other cars has screen like that !!
well he did state he was at a BMW dealer.....they may have slid him a few bucks to bash their rival because they keep coming up 2nd to MB
You forgot to mention the insane reflections on these crap screens.
