6:31 to 6:38he channels srv so hard. All those circular licks.... his face showed it all too, all those nights dreaming about being a blues phenomenon like his idol and now he’s playing the licks he practiced in front of an entire audience. Every time I play an SRV or Mayer style lick I smile... I can’t imagine what it would feel like to do that in front of thousands of people. Powerful.
He makes those faces because he truly feels his music. John Mayer is a genius! And he would NEVER have to sing this to me because I would NEVER leave :P
THE GREATEST GUITAR PLAYER SINCE HE HAS COME ON THE SCENE AND IT WILL ONLY GET BETTER!!! People need to start recognizing his talents. If you're a critic then do yourself a favor and pay the $40 to go to his concert and come out of there not feeling like it's the best $40 you ever spent. No great light shows or anything...just pure passion and music
I hope this video never goes away. I could watch it everyday for the rest of my life. Who else today plays with this much emotion in their voice and guitar? Truly Amazing.
that performance to me, is oneof the purest and honest one an artist can have, to lose yourself in a song that you have played hundreds of times, and for the crowd to see the passion and intensity of the performace...is brillant! I would go to any JM concert if I get the chance!! GREAT PERFORMER!
He takes this song to a whole new level on this performance... it's unbelievable how he can take a song and make it so vibrant once again after writing it.. cheers
i watched this and it was so amazing i went in my room and put on my cd player and jammed to it. i swear to god the whole time my head was up and my eyes were closed...you can get so into songs like these
God Damn! it almost made me cry. so sweet. the solo is absolutely incredible. no doubt, he is one of our times greatest guitarists. and think about, how young he is. try and picture him when he's 50? CRAZY!
i love that his voice doesnt sound different at all, from his videos or in person sometimes artists voices are changed with the computer and sh!t, but not john's. thats why hes one of my favorite artists. keep up the amazing work!
I've been playin guitar for about a year now... And the I can only get that kinda tone after about a half-hour of feeling inadequate. But thats just the sound... nevermind the notes. --- This song is my favorite of them all... and this is the best version.
omgd...i'm just addicted...the music just brings tears..!!! and omgd HIS FACIAL EXPRESIONS ARE JUSTTT....it makes me even more into it! even more hyper....
I would love to see his O face just based on what I see in this video... I love how he makes such a strong emotional connection through the guitar... UGH. Amazing!
John plays a 13 minute version of this song in a Valentine's Day concert in Vancouver, 2004. It contains a B3 solo by Kevin Lovejoy that is just as amazing as John's guitar playing. Definitely worth checking out!
bib404- yeh thanks.. i read about that a while ago.. but still.. a beautiful song.. He sounds sooo much beta doing Blues/Rock.. shows the True John Mayer!
John Mayer is a brilliant guitarist. The end gives me chills.( i belive it is the last 2 minutes or so. i think around 6:48) He is my favorite and he looks so sexy when he plays More importantly, beautiful performance great voice i love it!
John Fusciante (Red Hot Chili Peppers) and Derek Trucks (Allman Brothers Band, Eric Clapton, Derek Trucks Band). They were featured in Rolling Stone magazine together for the "New Guitar Gods" issue. BTW, great song.
Can anyone hook me up with the tab for this version of the song? I've been tryin to figure it out on my own... but i've only been playin for a few months. lol ---- Damn you Mayer, this song reminds me of the good and bad times. And is the one song i really wanna learn right now for that reason.
He has: 1) 77 on the left hand side of his chest (his birth year) 2) He has SRV on left upper arm 3) Japanese art on left bicep 4) A koi fish on right outer shoulder 5) 'Home' on left bicep 6) 'Life' on right bicep 7) '3 squares' on right inner forearm
So you like Mayer's earlier tone better than his current? This tone is vastly different from the one he has now. I also like this one a lot, but it's easily attained with a Fender amp, a compressor, a tubescreamer and a strat, preferrably with texas specials :-)
"I survive on the breath you are finished with". That'gotta be of the best lines ever written.

That is just his way of showing how he feels the music. He expresses it with his body movements and facial expressions.

Just phenomenal. What more can one say, no words...... Love from Ireland, keep well😊❤
He is a great musician and that's all that matters...hope he's around for a long time to come....keep playin' John

john is on his own planet in this video, passion at it's best!!!
The ending solo is UNBELIEVABLE!!!! So beautiful. Damn!

His faces always seem to amaze me ... he makes love to his guitar every time.I love you john
God Damn! it almost made me cry. so sweet. the solo is absolutely incredible. no doubt, he is one of our times greatest guitarists. and think about, how young he is. try and picture him when he's 50? CRAZY!
nearly there now lmao
Oh my God. I gave your comment a thumbs up even before I saw his guitar improv interlude in the middle.
I absolutely completely agree.
Pretty sure I've fallen in love with his voice. It's amazing. Like.. honey to my ears. God.
man, this was one of those songs i sort of overlooked at first, but wow. the solo was giving me goosebumps.
i love that his voice doesnt sound different at all, from his videos or in person
sometimes artists voices are changed with the computer and sh!t, but not john's.
thats why hes one of my favorite artists.
keep up the amazing work!
genius. this is the best john mayer video i've seen so far. incredible solo
I've never seen a solo so filled with emotions.
Eargasm!
this is THE BEST solo ever of this song!
I've been playin guitar for about a year now... And the I can only get that kinda tone after about a half-hour of feeling inadequate.
But thats just the sound... nevermind the notes.
---
This song is my favorite of them all... and this is the best version.
Definitely one of his BEST performances, I can't remember him being so inspired in his guitar solo since "covered in Rain" at Any Given Thursday :o
love how he plays so little guitar during the verse but it still sounds so so sweet
omgd...i'm just addicted...the music just brings tears..!!! and omgd HIS FACIAL EXPRESIONS ARE JUSTTT....it makes me even more into it! even more hyper....

I want this solo to be played on my funeral.
yeah! and his guitar playing too! he's much better now :D but this is sooo very nice:) he's the only favorite guitarist i have!! love john!
I just picked up the John Mayer sig guitar the other day, definitely my favorite only thing different is the pick guard
hes perfect...this song is so emotional..oh my john myaer.....
took the words right outta' my mouth. well done.
So emotional...
I love his guitar faces
Great work with the Red Cross, Mayer.
SRV strat?? Amazing amazing playing, this is why I love John Mayer.
he makes me hold my breath.
there ain't nothing else to say. (:

if I didn't already play guitar this performance would inspire me to pick one up
i love finding these old videos of him just playin his ass off
it PROVES that he always had it in him
He says "come back to bed" women "wooo"!!
beautiful. nothing else to say but absolutly beautiful
he just proves how high school is the biggest hype of all time.
yeah so much emotion in this perfomance.
this video diserves way more views....... It's way better then the crappy music noweadays. It just brings all of youre emotions out...
best version of come back to bed. nno doubt.
truer words aint ever been spoken!
this is why i love heavier things... john is just awesome
This absolutely brilliant.
My god, that was beautiful.
The solo around 7:30 reminds me so much of gravity. What a great lick
looks like i spoke right, cause i've got tickets to his Nov. 24th show in Toronto featuring his new album Battle Studies, and i can't wait!!!
He should make a medley of this and gravity. They would sound so good together!
that s why i am a big fan!!!!
bib404- yeh thanks.. i read about that a while ago..
but still.. a beautiful song.. He sounds sooo much beta doing Blues/Rock.. shows the True John Mayer!
loved his faces in this one! :)
John Mayer is a brilliant guitarist. The end gives me chills.( i belive it is the last 2 minutes or so. i think around 6:48) He is my favorite and he looks so sexy when he plays More importantly, beautiful performance great voice i love it!
Wow. Great solo
omg..im inlove with john mayer
BOTTOM LINE .... Great song!!
it creeps me... best vid ever
he's so enjoying!
John Fusciante (Red Hot Chili Peppers) and Derek Trucks (Allman Brothers Band, Eric Clapton, Derek Trucks Band). They were featured in Rolling Stone magazine together for the "New Guitar Gods" issue. BTW, great song.
beautiful. I almost cried watching it. haha
I would imagine so. Definitely on my To-Do list, haha.
He is the best.
playing with so much feeling.
i love this song! my boyfriend dedicated it to me. john mayer is fucking amazing!!
musical genius!!
Morro de rir com esse vídeo!!! As caretas são as melhores!! huauhahua
this was in 03, before fender made him a guitar. he replaced the original pickguard on his SRV sig with a turtle shell pickguard
Along with Covered in rain, from Any Given Thursday and Gravity from Where the light is.
such an underrated song
he makes faces because he is feeling the music.
phenomenal
@keybladechosn1 Agreed something about this song is absolutely amazing.
i miss this john the laid back free spirited guy with his guitar
if you use safari (the browser for macs) or just download it, then you can go to window > activity on the toolbar and download it from there
lol...! nice responses, gotta agree with you.. not on the pants changing thing, but definitely on how you rate this performance
That was wicked.
And 5:42 to 5:51 is hilarious. The camera angles are so unflattering.
Can anyone hook me up with the tab for this version of the song?
I've been tryin to figure it out on my own... but i've only been playin for a few months. lol
----
Damn you Mayer, this song reminds me of the good and bad times. And is the one song i really wanna learn right now for that reason.
i think he used an fender supersonic amp at that time+a boss bd-2 and an ibanez ts808, ocd pedal and last, but not least keeley katana boost pedal.
He has:
1) 77 on the left hand side of his chest (his birth year)
2) He has SRV on left upper arm
3) Japanese art on left bicep
4) A koi fish on right outer shoulder
5) 'Home' on left bicep
6) 'Life' on right bicep
7) '3 squares' on right inner forearm
i fuckin love this fuckin video...
Why does he look like he's going to start hysterically sobbing???
The phrasing at the beginning is alike to Gravity played at LA in his dvd
get it john!!
So you like Mayer's earlier tone better than his current? This tone is vastly different from the one he has now.
I also like this one a lot, but it's easily attained with a Fender amp, a compressor, a tubescreamer and a strat, preferrably with texas specials :-)
