Being at this concert, and hearing all that this man can do with a guitar...it changed me. Wonderful night with the best music I've ever heard, in the best venue I've ever been in.
Anyone who thinks John Mayer actually is the best guitar player of all time, doesn't know jack shit about guitarists. Listen to Guthrie Govan, Richie Kotzen, John Petrucci, Steve Vai, Jonny Lang, Walter Trout and for instance Joe Bonamassa and you have a list of players who put Johnny boy crying in the corner.
Al Swearengen SRV, Albert King, BB King, Jimi Hendrix, Buddy Guy, and Jimmy Page will wreck the shit out of all the guitarist you just wrote down. You see what I'm trying to say here?
torduc22 SRV (best guitarist ever imo), Hendrix and Page I do agree on, but Buddy Guy and both King's are some old school blues artists. They excel in soul, but their technique is obsolete to Guthrie Govan for instance. But I wasn't trying to put my personal top 10 list on, but my point actually was that Mayer is a good guitarist, great possibly, but he fails to create his own sound and he's to much focussed on the pop genre. I love listening to John Mayer and I usually recommend him to people who want to start educating themselves in blues, as he's the perfect bridge between pop and blues and really is an easy to listen to artist. But when speaking of guitarist for the sake of their legacy as solely guitarists, John has a long way to go. I also find the older Mayer compositions stronger than more recent. Usually prefer JM Trio, with Steve Jordan and Pino Palladino to JM solo as well.
Al Swearengen Fair point I understand where you are coming from. Interesting that you say his older compositions are stronger: are you referring to this blues work or his really early work?
This video is unsharable. Everything about it is so incredible. Those who find it are the ones who deserve to appreciate it. John Mayer's passion and lyricism ceaselessly speaks to my heart.
Starting my day blessed with this and all of the memories it made so precious in my life. Thank you John Mayer for sharing yourself with all of us. Forever grateful and blessed❤❤
DAMN! This was already my favorite Mayer tune, but combine that with Red Rocks, his message to the fans (which is very relatable to me right now,) and that ending guitar solo! This is EVERYTHING!
I agree people can be a telephone tough guy. they walk around with their face in the phone thinking emojis are going to express their feelings. TALK to me !!!! and you and your guitar do. literally everyday. I am a Christian, not at offended by your words. I would have loved to party with Jimi just like I would love to vibe out with you NATURALLY. We lose too many artist to drugs. Its heart breaking
The singing trouble could be a result of the growth on his throat. This is around the time that it all happened. Who knows how long it was effecting his singing.
@globe194 he is not drunk, he loves music and is passionate about it, whats wrong with that, plus he is one of the greatest musicians of our generation
Inspirational speech and awesome performance.. but let´s be honest - he was high and he used this highness to give the people as much love as he could get out of his guitat. fuck.. this guy is unbelievable
tbh this is the john mayer i class as the true john mayer. i loved born and raised but i could help wanting it to be a more of a blues rock album, like continuum. im also not a fan of how john sometimes refers to his older stuff as somewhat misguided, and his new sound is truly the most mature and focused sound he's ever had. i just hope he picks up the black1 one of these days and sees how something like gravity is a musical master piece and be inspired by that to go back to blues
John Mayer, probably could care less and probably don't read this S***. However, follow your soul and your heart, -and keep on playing. You speak, above and beyond. Do NOT get pocketed or let others "take you down" . You know who you are and the talent and spirit that abounds. So keep on, keep on..... please.
By the way John reminds me of prince - do ya white boys and intersexed beings listen to Prince - the symbol - Jah Love of the Neville brothers-in-law- ha!
It seems John has finally figured out how to tune his guitar down once his vocal coards took a dump. Band things can be a positive..He's still searching. Hope he finds his way...Keep it Herbal John stay off the Rx poison
Do you know this for a fact. and if it is so, well..... id smoke a joint with him and turn him loose on his guitar. its about moderation. Im NOT into the hard stuff, however it has been at parties Ive attended and I politely excuse myself and go where the smokers are, usually around a bon fire. If not I PEACE OUT bc that sh.t aint my playground. Thats a lifestyle
people still do the "better than this" and "worst than that" thing? You learn, then you write, then you play. When it's good, people will show up. Not to see if you "measure up" to somebody, just because their music makes you feel good. Just feel good - stop comparing. Besides, that's what he's saying anyway... Music either moves me, or I'll move on to somebody else's music - and it's totally fine if my friends or whomever stay behind to listen to the same music that DID move them.
I went to this concert on my 40th B-Day. Thanks Liz. Love John Mayer but the sound sucked hard. Nothing against John's performance, I was just disappointed in the Red Rocks sound crew.
you wanna be like Jimi Hendrix??? I wanna be like you John

anyone who thinks that John Mayer is out of the discussion for the greatest guitar player of all time is deaf

Which reminds me, I wonder why Mayer's been invited to the crossroads since 2004? Explanations there?

No matter what anyone else thinks, it's obvious that Mayer is the hendrix of the modern era.
This ticket for this Amazing show is hanging on my wall :)

@miliwak September 1, 2010 :)
i don't understand the speech so well, could you resume it??
I'd love to get high five from John Mayer:)
when was this show?
i can't hook up to 3G, i just gotta let it be
what year was this?
No...he's not high. It's just his natural appearance. John started recreational drug use shortly after this concert, which is quite ironic...

I felt the love.

i'd say he is stoned, not drunk
3G 😆😆
Im pretty sure the lyrics to "Who Says" and many interviews clearly state by himself that he does drugs? hmm....
3G 🙂
@l2string than why do you spend all the time to watch the speech. Yeah right, ofcourse yoi hate him.
-_- *sigh
Hendrix? No.
I adore Gravity but. I hate this Version, he's to drunk -.-
Is he drunk?
