    The best video showing the location of the bolts. Than you Eric. It is important to know that the engine is a1.6L. Your video matched the engine size and year.

    Thank you! I was going mad trying to remove the first belt so I could add a new one for the alternator. Totally missed the third screw at the bottom of the power steering pump.

    1995 MX3 1.6 no A/C
    Was trying figure out why the serpentine belt (a/c, waterpump) wouldnt go on. The 3rd bolt (underneath ) the alternator was the trick

    Thankyou I was just looking at my buddy's car who's belt fried out on him and I had a feeling I had to take the power steering belt off to install the alternator belt back behind the power steering belt correct? because it goes closest to the engine the alternator belt does..

    Ran into some trouble on my Mazda protégé for some reason my belt is either too tight or my alternator isn’t loosening up enough I can’t fit a belt over it

      Same here. New power steering/compressor belt can't go on because the power steering pulley won't adjust enough

      @nev4309 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ThorD4602 hey so I got pass that what you have to do is turn the main crankshaft and slide the belt on while turning it. It looks hard but you got it

      @@nev4309 that is what I was afraid of. a little dodgy for my liking, though I know that mechanics do that all day long. Luckily my old belt seemed ok so I put it back on. Thanks for the comment.

    After loosening the 3 bolts and backing off the adjuster bolt a lot, there is only about a couple of degrees of movement in the ps pulley, enough to get off the old belt, but not enough to put on a new one. There must be something more you need to do than merely loosen the other 2 bolts. Anybody else have this experience?

      I put the belt part way on the power steering pulley, and then hit the starter for just a fraction of a second (not long enough to start the car). The belt went on the pulley.

    Those that 3rd bolt under the pump have to come out half way ? Cause I got two of them loose and the other one is still spinning but dont no how far to take it?. Also should the pump be loose after taking those 3 bolts half way out? Thanks great video btw

      t glizzy you should only have to loosen it. If you can not move to power steering pump with your, something is wrong

      @@ericbarnwell9163 I got the on top loose but the 2nd one on the side I didnt take it out as far and the 3rd on the bottom of the power steering pump I don't know how much to loosing it. If that dont work I need to take it all off?

    I keep breaking belts, wtf? I know the rule about you should be able to turn it no more than 90 degrees at its longest run, but would that apply to such a short belt as the alternator belt for this car?
    All the pulleys turn freely, no wobble, no play, no misalignment, everything looks great but the damn belts keep snapping.

    • @ericbarnwell9163
      @ericbarnwell9163  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Matt Garza you should be able to move the belt up and down with your hand a quarter of an inch in area away from the pulleys. If you can not move the belt at least a quarter inch, the belt would be too tight. If it moves more than a quarter inch, it would be too loose.

      @@ericbarnwell9163 Thanks! This was a customer's car and all is well now evidently. He bought a Gates instead of an O'Reilly store brand, and I also applied the 90 degree rule of thumb instead of trying in vein to measure the displacement with a caliper.
      I also bought a belt displacement gauge, but as usual for me, I bought the tool after the need for it had come and gone, lol.
