  • ( www.TFLcar.com ) The 2012 Nissan Juke and Xterra both have all wheel drive so they are very good cars to drive when the snow starts falling? But which one of these two cars is the best in the fluffy stuff. There's only one way to find out....race both the Juke and the Xterra up Lick Skillet Road...the nations steepest country road. So which two of these new Nissan's is the most snow-worth? Watch the video below to find out.

    I have a 2010 Xterra Off Road (same as later PRO-4x models), and it is an all round great truck. Reliable, powerful, roomy, RUGGED, and it still has pretty good manners on the highway. Nissan should not have discontinued it.

      Mallan530 In a way I'm both sad and happy they discontinued it. At least it didn't have the opportunity to be bastardized and turned into a 'family car'.

    For those of you crying that the Xterra beat the Juke because of it tires. That Xterra isn't running snow tires, it has BFGoodrich Rugged Trail T/A which is a all-terrain tire. Stop the video at 0:39, it will say Rugged Trail. It's misleading to call a A/T tire a winter tire. Also the Rugged Trail isn't all that great of a tire in snow, in fact it kind of sucks in the snow. The old school 4x4 system is better in the snow over Nissan AWD.

    jonajs98 No. My ex had a Juke and I used to drive a Subaru STi. The Juke is obviously no STi but every time I drove it, it reminded my of my Subaru. It's quick and handles sharply.

    We've reviewed both and both are very good. It really depends on what you want. The XTERRA is more civilized and comfortable while the Wrangler is more off-road worthy out of the box.

    i always enjoy your vids, this showed a lot of variables that can effect different vehicles in areas with snow and ice . the proper winter wheels really do make a big difference along with the weight of the vehicles too. also the altitude effects on the na and turbo vehicles come in to light as well
    most of my winter vehicles have been rwd cars with dedicated winter wheels and most of the item i do as well as awd vehicles.
    for em stopping is just as important as going on snow and ice .

  • @TFLcar
    @TFLcar  12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    @Jmoneyy100 Yes, supercharges may be even a bit better at altitude as they force more air into the engine thus making up (some what) for the thinner air.

    I absolutely love my AWD Juke, and it's CVT. I'd never take it to the track- that's what the stick shift MR2 is for, but I have started to see the 2WD Manual transmission Jukes show up to HPDE's. They seem to do quite well, actually.

  • @ZachBillings
    @ZachBillings 10 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    I wouldn't want a CVT on a sports car or truck but on most cars they're great. All the old school people who are entrenched in old transmissions just aren't being objective. I have an Xterra Pro-4X with a manual, but the Juke is definitely the better car to drive briskly in the snow. The Xterra will handle a steeper grade and will get through deeper snow, but the Juke is the one that can be driven at or above the speed limit on a snow-covered road. The Xterra isn't planted enough to do that.

  • @NathanDAdlen
    @NathanDAdlen 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @we5leyz You’re absolutely right. Both vehicles had mud & snow tires, but the Xterra’s tires were BFGs that were biased towards mud. Being that they are completely different vehicles, we felt that the tires they were equipped with were as close as we could come in terms of equivalent levels of traction. Thanks for watching!

    I have a XTerra, 2009, Before you get in the snow and mud trade the BFG's they are the only thing bad about the Nissan XTerra. I have had Goodyear silent Armor and Michellin Snow both are great tires for snow and street. Next set will be one size larger, I will stick with the 16" wheels.

    Great review. Either vehicle works for me. I have the Xterra and prefer no limits. If I didn't need the off-road capabilities and fishing pole room the Juke would be just fine. Either way they are Nissan and maybe the Juke replaced the Xterra? The big test would be pot holes. After countless potholes my Subaru Outback took a dump. Sorry to see the Xterra go.

    I see at the 7:34 mark it shows the Juke does have AWD option but they don't show the guys turning it on in the Juke. It doesn't just turn on by itself automatically, it has to be toggled.

    • @MrJrod899
      @MrJrod899 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, all wheel drive means the wheels move all the time. A 4X4 can be toggled on and off. Besides there is no way that juke would of made it up that climb with just the front tires driving.

    • @skip029
      @skip029 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      MrJrod899 The Juke's AWD can be toggled on or off. The Juke comes with three sets of drive modes, 2WD (Front Wheel Drive mode), AWD-V (torque vectoring mode) or AWD (locking differential mode 4x4).

    I have a 04 xterra and I love the car, I live in upstate New York so the winters can be bad and the xterra is awesome . The only problem with it is the lack of room . Driving it is like a cockpit and the back seats have hardly enough legroom to be comfortable but since its my car I don't really worry about that. All in all I'd rather have a xterra than a juke.

      Mike Belcher Xterras are awesome. you should check out a 2nd Gen (05-15) they have more room in them than the 1st Gen. I know because I just got a 2010 off road after my 2001 XE was totaled. My 2010 has way more space inside than the 2001 did. It also has WAY more power.

    @Jmoneyy100 Oh yes, there’s a definite advantage to having constant, linear boost from a supercharger. In fact: if you look at WW2 fighter planes, most had forced induction (like a P51 Mustang, Supermarine Spitfire or Messerschmitt Bf 109) and were purpose built to use superchargers. Thanks for watching!

    Hey guys. The Xterra won a Motor Trend competition in 2008 against every major offroad vehicle made inc. Jeep, Rover, Toy, & Hummer. The X won going away. It was an offroad and on road competition. The X has a very durable drivetrain too. Mine has never overheated. Yeah it's part time as in shift it into 4wd when you need it. It's not a slip controlled system like a Subaru which used to be great until they went with that 90/10 split stuff. The X is an old style 4wd. Rugged as the day is long.

    @mbmoore210 I have no idea what you're talking about. I never had any overheating. It's not an AWD system even. It's a 4wd system. Big difference. You're right about one thing. Nissan's AWD doesn't compare because it doesn't have AWD. If you saw anything overheat it would be the transmission which is common on a lot of vehicles that travel slowly offroad. That's why they have radiators for autos now. U won't have that problem with a manual. I don't have it with auto. I don't push it too hard.

    Actually the Xterra has an AWD system that tends to overheat easily in the sand & shut down, leaving you with 2wd. Seen it happen several times & the Forester's just keep on goin. The Forester is very capable offroad with it's main disadvantages being clearance & no lockers (being AWD, not true 4x4). Nissan's AWD does not compare at all to that of the Subaru. However, you can outfit an Xterra a lot easier than the Forester. Wish they would outfit a Forester with the H6.

    One had snow tires, the other had all seasons tires. Come on!

    • @ConnorGibbsAK
      @ConnorGibbsAK 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Neither had snow tires... one had mud and snow RATED, one had summer biased all seasons. That doesn’t mean much considering the M/S Rated ones are still all seasons. Either way they are still the tires you switch from to snow tires. Let’s put it like this:
      I have flip flops
      I have snow boots
      I can wear flip flops in the snow and more traction than my running shoes (true fact actually).
      But when I go into snow that isn’t more than a parking lot glaze I use boots.
      Just because a shoe can get more traction than the other, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t use the real deal. That’s the same thing here. Mud and Snow tires are built to have a BIT more traction, but they are not snow tires. I live in Alaska - used to be in Denver where these people are - and I would swap from Toyo Open Country M/S tires to snow tires (Bridgestone Blizzaks) because they will be the safest for myself and everyone else around me. That’s why Alaskans switch to SNOW tires, that’s why Scandinavian countries have a law where you have to swap, and M/S tires are not part of the criteria for that. M/S tires are NOT snow tires, anyone who knows anything about tires will agree, and I am a firm believer in the fact that if you think they are snow tires because someone put it on a snow track to test and it has a snowflake on it, you should lose your license! I want to point out one more thing. On the corner where the Juke almost went off, notice how the Xterra nearly went off too? Yes that’s largely due to Nathan getting a higher speed because of a minuscule amount of added traction, but they basically went off at the same point, at the same velocity, with roughly the same amount of correction. With my SNOW TIRES, AKA NOT THOSE IN THE VIDEO, my Bridgestone Blizzaks; I could have made that without fail. Wanna know how I know that? Maybe I’ve driven that road with my front wheel drive Lincoln and made that turn with Blizzaks?

  • @NathanDAdlen

    I like the Jeep - but that's because of the removable top and its new engine. It's not as practical, comfortable or street friendly as the Xterra... but my personal taste can be considered illogical. I was dropped on my head often as a child. All joking aside, you need to get behind the wheel of both - side by side - and see what suits you. Best of luck!

    Roman Mica reminds me of an American version of Jeremy Clarkson! Thumbs up if you agree or like TopGear!

    The juke would not destroy it. It's 4x4. I know cause I got the 04 model xterra and mine is stick.

    i think the tires are irrelevant. their videos are more fun than info filled. you can get specs on nissan for both these cars, and if you were in question of which one is more snow worthy, your a fool. although i do have to say i have no idea what demographic they were shooting for. these vehicles are in totally different classes.

    Did you really have to compare an Xterra to a Juke...?

    @WoZIMoo I do accept that the xterra can go places my fozzie can't however Forester XT 5spd would kick the shit out of any traditional 4x4 on a snowy mountain road like this. Also the xterra can't win an autocross, get groceries, go farther offroad than 90% of xterras will ever go and do snow donuts in the walmart parking lot all in the same day

    I'm confused. The juke should destroy the Xterra in the snow since it is FWD. The xterra is rwd and is terrible in the snow, almost as bad as a pickup truck.
