I bought one of these, but you probably need to jack up the bike from the other side so as the side stand stays down for when you lower it? Probably not critical on a lighter bike, but for my Harley Davidson Road King, it would topple over if I didn't have the side stand down

No tie downs required, although if you need the bike to be extra stable you could attach to lift plates. Hope this helps your question. Thanks
