You are not wrong Mos323. Scurlogue, Ballyregan, De Mulder, Savva, flapping tracks, BIG crowds, BBC TV coverage, Wembley, White City, The Stow, John Power... what a great sport we once had. :-(
Ballyregan was more a middle distance type with sprinter speed. Scurlogue was a long distance deep closer. The one time they met was a bit short for Scurlogue and he broke down . Had they faced at something like 850-1000 meter the odds would have favored Scurlogue the longer it went. Both great, just different.
@bulldog1603 the crowds followed champ because of the way he ran, imo he was the best dog, not for the stats or records, ut because of the entertainment value
This was one of his best performances. The trip was shorter than he really needed and he was blocked at the last two bends.... but, as if he 'dropped down a gear' and put his foot down, he raced past his opponents in the final 80 yards to win. Awesome!
I was there and remember it well.... the best greyhound race i have ever seen combined with the atmosphere which was pure electric....ty Scurlogue Champ
The Power that dog could put down on the track was amazing, And its like the dog knows just how easy it's going to be, so he just hangs back to give the other a little chance......then bang, steam train come through.
I understand billybob was a bit quicker in times but my god, if his speed could of been tracked in them times the whole race especially that last 100 his top speed would of blitzed billybob
Would give you a shiver down your spine.....what a dog, and what a great sport we once had.

In my opinion the best greyhound there ever was. I was lucky enough to meet him when he had retired. Still gives me chills watching his races.

I’ve not heard “ come on my old cocker “ since I was a child. Going to the dog with my grandad, the old boy could have it off . Good memories 😢
