    If you don't know what to invest in, starting with an index tracker that tracks your chosen market is a really good idea. Eg. one that tracks developed markets, the S&P 500 (US), or a total world fund. I wouldn't recommend investing in single stocks unless you really know what you're doing in terms of researching and analyzing balance sheets, earning reports etc. because if you get it wrong then all your money is gone, whereas with an index fund, if a company goes bankrupt or drops below the threshold for that tracker then it's just replaced by another company.

    • @CarterSullivan
      @CarterSullivan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I never said it was the only one just an idea! I found investing "fun money" a few stocks here and there was alot easier for me to grasp my understanding of investing! Like you said there's other ways to do it, I just wanted to give a less intimidating option!

    • @Hannah.Beazley
      @Hannah.Beazley 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CarterSullivan Oh, I didn't mean that what you're doing wasn't a good idea - I think if you do want to eventually move into buying individual stocks, allocating a few $ a month to play around with is a great way to do it. But for first time investors, indexs are a good intro.
      There are also some really great stock market simulators, like on Investopedia where you can research and "buy" real stocks without actually spending your own money that is another good option for learning single stock investing. You can research and find ones you like and track their progress as if they were really in your account, but if things go sideways, you've got no real money in it.

    How will you/do you handle splitting expenses/renovations when you make significantly more a month than him? (I'm assuming that your increase in youtube $ has made a big difference)
    I feel like expenses/salary can be an issue for relationships when there is a big difference in salaries.

    • @CarterSullivan
      @CarterSullivan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      We talk very openly about finances in our relationship- its very important to us to communicate about our feelings financially & how we're feeling with money on a weekly basis! I answered this already in the comments so look for the detailed answer there. But long story short we are still splitting things 50/50, it works for us! We are EQUALS in our relationship so it works for us. But it may not work for others and thats fine! It's not an issue if you communicate about it from the beginning🥰

      I can see how it provides value for others but it doesn't for me anymore or not anything that I can't wait a few more days for!

    • @CarterSullivan
      @CarterSullivan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @PHASION TELEVISION i'm not a mom but I am personally just trying to separate myself with Amazon as a whole! I stopped for a few reasons- 1 I was buying stuff I didn't need just for the convenience factor of it coming the next day & if I need something I'd rather try and not support a billion dollar corporation and support more local where I can or directly from the company! Amazon charges 20% for any purchase so lets say a local coffee shop has their beans on Amazon they lose 20% of the purchase so I'm going to suck it up , wait a few extra days & buy directly from the company!

    Single picking stocks is not the best strategy. If you don’t know what to buy I would suggest to buy an ETF that tracks the whole market (like VT). They are traded like stocks. If you are very young, you could only buy VT regularly and keep it for the rest of your life, success is almost guaranteed.

    • @CarterSullivan
      @CarterSullivan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was just a suggestion, not saying its the best way to do it! It helped me get into the world of trading and is alot less intimidating. There are obviously other ways like you mentioned but this is just an IDEA

    Since your income has increased so much, are you going to take on anymore than half of the expenses? I’m always curious how couples split finances when there is a difference in salary.

    • @CarterSullivan
      @CarterSullivan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Great question! Every relationship is SO different but currently no we are planning on still splitting things 50/50. The reason for it is I still have to play catch up to Matt in terms of savings & debt payoff. He has his car paid off & I want to pay mine off & catch up to where he is savings wise and we are both on the same page about that! I think once we are on a LEVEL playing field with expenses then we will re-evaluate but for the time being this is our plan!
