I am in Awe that you guys live such a simple life, keeping the out side world outside kinda. but i wish my native people went back to living the simple way.
Just found your blog a week or so ago....you are so fortunate to live in a beautiful, rural area. The morning shot of the mist rising off the lake by your campsite is gorgeous. I want to move to Canada now.
Please your sweet heart, you really did take a bad spill from that bike. I was just thankful you were okay. God Bless y'all and thank you for sharing the colony life, HUGS!
you had a nice vacation while picking blueberries, really nice place, I am blessed to have a half acre in my field which we rake every year, every few years in the fall I cut the blueberry bushes with a bush saw, this year I cleared more land with pigs and seeded with the cull berries after cleaning the raked blueberries. I had planted a blueberry orchard of 150 highbush blueberries a few years ago which mature at different times during the summer, so that we always have fresh blueberries and I also keep bees so that the bushes are like the ones you showed very plump with berries, your colony might be able to have a highbush blueberry orchard. I grew saskatoons, raspberries, bing cherries and currants which all grow very good when I lived out west.
that sounds amazing being able to have your own blueberries in your backyard but, we do love our trip to Ontario its a tradition already that we don't what to give up so easily. :)
I really like your videos, continue doing that. I'm from Austria and I was also out for picking blueberries this week....love them. Your blueberry picker is cool, mine looks a little bit different.
I am watching all of your vlogs from the beginning and thus far, this has been my favorite. You seem so happy to be camping and picking berries. Beautiful scenery! I was worried you might run into a bear 🐻 are there any in that area? Your vlogs are the highlight of my day. Thank you for your creations.
Wow what’s trooper ! Ya wipe out get bandage and you keep on with the VLOG yeah team oh those camp sites are sooo pretty. There are many areas I’ve seen over the years I have visited. Thanks for sharing joe the arborist.
Were the wild blueberries something you had to pay for as part of the campsite or provincial park? Or did you roam free? Most northerners say they aren't able to dig a garden because they hit bedrock,it amazes me how all the trees and bushes grow. - The Iroquoian word "kanadario" means "shining lake" or "sparkling waters", adapted into Ontario. Isn't that a beautiful name? -B.C. originally called Columbia after Columbia River, Queen Victoria renamed it British Columbia in 1858. -Alberta named after Princess Louise Caroline Alberta,4th daughter of Queen Victoria and wife of Canada's governor general. -The two branches of the Saskatchewan River , draining into lake Winnipeg, were called Kisiskatchewani Sipe by the Cree, meaning "swift-flowing" river . From this the province got its name. -When the waves lapped the rocky shore of Lake Manitoba,it sounded like someone whispering. Native people said it was Manito, their Great Spirit . In 1870, Louis Riel suggested the name Manitoba, after Cree words for Great Spirit and Narrows. (Donna Ward,Marj Cassidy. Geography , province to province. Northwoods press copyright 1997,2007.) Why were you unable to get your original site? Was the the one you stayed on also rushing river? What is the berry rake you use called,do you also use it on domestic berry bushes? I haven't seen farmers around here use it. We used to go to Pardos Berry farm when were able to make the drive. We tried Klassens ,but Pardos was more pleasant and relaxed, with highbushes. Chatham was a hike, but we really enjoyed the couple times a year excursion.
My Mom watching your Video...: wow schah vie deh dien er emmur aus woschun tuet. Kot in grös!! Meaning I never wash mine out. Lol We love your videos! So interesting how the schmiedleut do things differently from the Dariusleut! 😊😊
There was a place in California United States called Yosemite national park , it reminded me of the park rushing river. Over the years , I have visited in summer , spring and fall and of course winter. Unfortunately in the winter roads are covered with sometimes 5 to 10 feet of snow , so not even four-wheel-drive vehicles , can get in .I stay outside the park and hike in the wander around in the beautiful winter wonderland, thanks to our Creator who has given us this amazing planet to share with others.
Yeah I really miss the beautiful nature in Canada. It was actually one of the main reasons why I immigrated there. But I didn't drive farther than to Jasper and Banff then going back to BC. Been to Calgary, Edmonton, Totonto etc. on business trips but never to Manitoba yet. In BC are many beautiful places and Parks too! Maybe one day I will come back to Canada when the situation here in this Deummsland becomes unbearable...
Do you ever have to worry about wild animals while you are picking blueberries? Also, when you were walking to your old camp site. You weren’t wearing your black scarves, I was wondering if you would tell me why? Thank you I truly enjoyed the video.
Your blueberry adventure looked exciting! You ladies have personalized buckets, Wow!! Suppose it is no secret that bears and blueberries often go together. . . . Do men help in this venture or just the gals?? Nice video, thanks for posting! S. Carolina
I see you working so hard and with such a willing heart. I know you can sew and do it well too. Do you knit or crochet or quilt? I know it would be so much more for you to do.
So neat to see you driving on the TransCanada highway! Very familiar to me as we are originally from Ontario now living in Alberta. I wonder where you are from? And I was really curious which part of Ontario you were at as I was watching your video, it looked kind of like thunder bay but then when you mentioned rushing river I googled it and found that it’s in Kenora . Have stopped in there a few times on our travels back-and-forth from Ontario to Alberta or Alberta to Ontario. Beautiful place indeed!
I know exactly what that area is like for berries. In my culture ... First Nation cree ... men also help pick berries nowadays ... I didn’t see any younger people helping. Is this only for the ladies ?
For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? But if we hope for that we see not, do we with patience wait for .
@ LdP , according to google huckleberries and Saskatoon's are different. Saskatoon's - rosaceae family - amelanchier alinifolia (related to roses) Huckleberries - ericaceae family - gaylussacia or vaccinium (heath and Heather's)
About 35 years ago when I was in the middle of highschool, my parents were seriously considering emigrating to Canada from South Africa, how I wish they had!! (My husband and I also looked at going to Canada, but ended up in the UK because it was easier to get here with our ancestry from the UK.) Our children visited friends in Canada a number of years ago, but we've never been.
“I don’t mind” has become my mantra! You have such spirit, such a gift to the world🙌🏻👍❤️
thank you so much
Exciting! I live in Southwestern Ontario but I have driven through this area when I lived in Manitoba. Always nice to see something Canadian!
I grew up in Ontario and have lived and worked all over the world. Your video made me feel homesick.
It is definitely a beautiful place that holds a special place in my heart even though I don't get to visit it that often. ♥
I am in Awe that you guys live such a simple life, keeping the out side world outside kinda. but i wish my native people went back to living the simple way.
Thank you for dispelling many assumptions I had about your culture and lifestyle. You have a wonderful life and I enjoy your vlogs.

it was a bit difficult when wanting to get wet I sometimes had to wear rubber gloves which looked so odd I couldn't help but, laugh.
Gorgeous place! 😍

I miss picking wild blueberries and strawberries. I lived in Northeast Kingdom and they were so abundant and fresh.
I’m still catching up on all your videos. I love them all!
You made a lovely video,April uk
Thankyou im glad you enjoyed watching it 😊

its a beautiful place no matter where you go.
This is a awesome place, i was there a few years ago with our girls

We do have a couple men along that help us pick and that also come around to empty our pails when needed 😊
I see you working so hard and with such a willing heart. I know you can sew and do it well too. Do you knit or crochet or quilt? I know it would be so much more for you to do.
Dank sei Dir 🎶 a very familiar song☺️
We sure live in a beautiful country!! Enjoyed this vlog. Who does the cooking when you are away on a trip like this?
that we do. not all the ladies go on the trip, its more of whoever wants to go, so whoever stays home has to cook

Yes I think its about an hour(ish) from Kenora (correct me if I'm wrong). An absolutely beautiful place. 😊
I know exactly what that area is like for berries. In my culture ... First Nation cree ... men also help pick berries nowadays ... I didn’t see any younger people helping. Is this only for the ladies ?
Yes that is only ladies work but, we have started taken more men with us to help with the pick and also carry the blueberries out of the patch. 😊
Kenora, too far up for me...most I go is Elliot Lake, Ont.
For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? But if we hope for that we see not, do we with patience wait for .
Aren't you afraid of bears 😊
Im from Ontario, where do you pick?
How long was the drive to the camp site for blue berry picking ?
4-5 hours maybe closer to 5
what do the boys and men do on the colony?
Watch vlog 54 more towards the end I talked about it 😊
when you fell, did you cry? did it have anything to do with your dress?
no it was actually a mistake on my part didn't really think about until the pavement had used my hands like one would use a cheese shredder.
@@gisellewaldner9406 So you did cry, I'm assuming because you didn't answer that part.
Where did you buy those blueberry pickers from?
I'll have to ask around i'm not really sure
Lee Valley generally has them.
Whatever did you do to your hands Giselle?
Where did you guys camp? It looks very familiar
No need to answer. You said it. I thought that was Rushing River.
do you know the place? :)
@@gisellewaldner9406 We camped there all the time when I was younger
I must have missed it. What happened to your hands? And knees?
Ah. It was a real quick note you had a bike wreck.
yeah a nasty bike accident
I thought blueberries and saskatoons were the same. Please correct my ignorance!
Same family, huckleberries too, so they are similar. Wild Blueberries grow further East, the others naturally grow further West.
Fun fun you had fun all week if it wasn’t for that accident
Really enjoy the helo and welcome to my vlog 🙂
Thank you!! 😊
Liebe Grüße aus Frankufurt am Main!
It would also be nice if you could print out the English translation to the songs you show in German, like hymns and such.
👍🙃🙏🏻
Nothing tastes better than wild blueberries, just have to watch the mosquitoes in Ontario, they get massive.
nothing beats them right off the plant..we had problems with fly's that kept circling our heads and yelling in our ears they were crazy.
Blueberries and maple syrup on hot porridge with milk is my favorite food ever.
Just wondering, do you take a family vacation?
not really unless its visiting family for a week and I guess trips like the blueberry trip are a kind of vacation.
Any huckleberries?
I not even sure what they look like 😁
@@gisellewaldner9406 they’re like a smaller purple blueberry and will stain your hands! They’re delicious
@@gisellewaldner9406 I think that’s what we call Saskatoon berries
@ LdP , according to google huckleberries and Saskatoon's are different.
Saskatoon's - rosaceae family - amelanchier alinifolia (related to roses)
Huckleberries - ericaceae family - gaylussacia or vaccinium (heath and Heather's)
I would touch every poison Ivy plant there..Lol
Omg me too! Glad to know there’s someone else out there like that lol
❤️🌹
Does anyone have a shotgun to protect you guys from bears while you are collecting berries.
nah we have never needed one we just really try and watch where we are going and not to venture too far from the group.
