I always had a huge garden, but after my parents died, the joy of the harvest and the processing died too. You have to have loved ones around you to share in the beauty of the harvest and to give the push needed to do the hard work of canning and preserving. So now I garden with my son and wife, but one really needs a Colony to make it all work right.
Du bist su leib! I love watching you and the different ways you do your work compared to us... you give us some great ideas to implement in our work. Thanks hun. And I can’t believe you get thumbs down, how petty. You’re amazing! 🤩❤️❤️❤️
Lovely channel, I’m so fascinated by Mennonites and Hudderites having grown up so closely to them in Medicine Hat. My grandparents have great relationships with some of the colonies around us and have always gotten eggs, turkeys, chickens, and fruit and veg. I’ve been to a couple and think the way you live is so amazing.
You and your friends picking veggies and processing them reminds me of my sisters and I doing that when we were young! It is lovely, but I know a lot of work.
We have serviceberry here in MN a variety of Saskatoon s, love them better than blueberries! Also dayliles are eatable. Used in Asian cooking. When I worked at an herb garden the owner served yogurt with fresh blueberries spooned into a daylily. (remove pistil and stamens first) Beautiful inside and out. MN is at the 44th parallel, so our summer days are long too. Thanks for sharing. ❤️
I see that both are Amelanchier, but The one I have is Amelanchier, arborea and your species is Amelanchier, alnifolia Saskatoon serviceberry. My grandchildren love to pick them and we have to get them before the robins make a meal of them I'm going to plant a Saskatoon variety if I can find one....oh well that's what the internet is for! Cheers! BTW I bought a copy of New Morning Mercies to help me through this Covid trama
I love your name----a favorite cousin of mine was a Giselle....lovely. I love your vlogs. So interesting to see how organized everything is....but, where are all the men, children, other woman, boys, a colony with all the food you make and store needs a lot of people...I don't see very many. Thanks for sharing your life with us.........
thank you....ahh my first videos I was self conscious to film the guys but, I do include them in newer videos. they usually help us out with big garden projects they make picking peas more fun :)....the children get taken care of by the girls (summer school). you are so welcome.
you are so welcome. summer pickles are thin sliced pickles, with onions and peppers, they are fairly sweet and go with everything (anyways I feel like they do :)) but, they are only during the summer months never for winter.
@@gisellewaldner9406 I had to work injury. Most people know the tool as a T post pounder. we have one industrial size for putting tree steaks in for young trees. It toppled off the top and hit me directly in the face, so I was out of work for a week and a half. Had a mild concussion and didn’t know it. Now that I’m back to my great old self. I can enjoy your VLOG again , I’m all the way up to VLOG 19 I think. They so enjoyable. I’m really super excited to see the note at the end.
14-10 usually help out where they find work a lot of our younger boys help out in the garden and the rest of the kids go to what we call summer school but, its basically the girls just babysitting and having fun.
I don't know if you don't answer this since it's log is several months old but I'm curious as well as others what is tattoo on your left wrist. Is that something they all do?
@@gisellewaldner9406 I think I decoded at least that one on inside of your left arm already hehe :) wanted to ask already before, I'm going through your vlogs as time permits..
Beautiful! Thank you for sharing!! For the things that cannot be fabricated in the colony do you have designated people that go into town. How frequently does it need to be done?
I wonder why she didn't answer that because I have the same question I'm surprised that the Hutterites with all their modesty allows any type of tattoos. I know they aren't symbols it's written much like what was written on the Jews of the Holocaust
@Suzanne Sahl I’m not really sure what your hang up is with Giselle’s tattoo. You mentioned something in an earlier post about it having to do with modesty. Not sure where you derived that doctrine from but it’s just a small tattoo lady. Millions of people have them. Im not a big tattoo person but I actually think it looks cool! Love your vlogs Miss Giselle! Please keep doing them! Having been a former Hutterite, I love seeing how different Colony’s do things. Hello from a former Montana Lehrerleut!😊
@@gisellewaldner9406 They look like what we call June berries. We live in Northern Minnesota about an 1 1/2 hours from Canada and we pick them around July

Laughed out loud when Giselle said she was going home to ‘relax’.
Just love your vlogs. So good for a person’s soul 🌻 Thanks for your channel ❤️
aww thank you and you are so welcome! :)
Old Order Mennonite here! It has been very interesting seeing how our “spiritual cousins” the Hutterites go about life. Thank you, and blessings!

Your love for your culture is very evident in the way you film.
thank you although in my younger years seeing girls my age wearing pants made me self conscious but, not anymore I do love our culture.

oh wow you just told me a lot of things that I didn't know about thanks for that. some of our people would also take Saskatoons over blueberries.

Some would call it a colony, I would call it 'working with my family and friends day in and day out'.

Seems like a peaceful lifestyle !
Even cucumbers WoW!!. Manitoba gardens are a little farther ahead then Ab!.
We don’t have those berries here. What do they taste like? Blueberries?
Amazing !
Could you tell us more on how you can things?
do school aged children have any 'jobs' during the summer months when they are not in school?

For somethings we do but for the most part we shop for clothes that we need on our own 😊
