Nice to see some optimism of the game and the positives that come with it. One of the most underrated feature of the game is its UI.. it's probably one of the most intuitive UI's of any game I've seen and blows all other space game UI's out of the water IMHO. Hope to see more of your videos!

The game is a snooze fest. No direction, good for exploring, everything else is average.

    • @Datan0de
      @Datan0de ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@Mr.Free2Play "No direction" is part of the point. Most games have a more or less linear story that leads the player from A to B to C, with side quests along the way. A lot of people aren't able to transition to a game that doesn't tell them what to do next or that gives them a limited set of options to choose from.
Elite gives the player a living galaxy with a rich history and countries moving parts all interacting, and lets them decide how they want to live there and what they want to do. If you're used to having objections spelled out for you, having the freedom to do or be anything you want can paradoxically feel a lot like "there's nothing to do." If that's the case, and you're not comfortable setting your own objectives, it might not be for you. But for me, after 5 years I still have a long to-do list even outside of the various current events happening in the galaxy.

    • @heavybattle6650

@@Datan0de *Living galaxy* - bullshit. The galaxy offers 0 surprises and no dangers unless you stick your head in it and its gameplay loops if you can even call them that have never been diversified, they have been the same and bore the shit out of players. All the planets - same, all stations - same. If you've been to one, you've experienced all of them.
*Rich history* - no one gives a shit, when that history is told through text and voice messages. Its 2023, video games came up with motion capture performances and interactive storytelling like 20 years ago, FDev's still haven't worked it out.
*Moving parts all interacting* - bullshit, you have a pathetic BGS system, in which nothing but percentages on a table change and nothing more, no visible effect, no rewards, just some numbers changing because the feature has never been developed since introduced.
*Lets them decide how they want* - bullshit, in order to advance in any meaningful way you have to grind. if you want to trade better, you need to engineer your hull, if you want to explore you need to engineer FSD, if you want to be a better fighter, engineering, boring, stupid, disheartening grind, grind, grind, grind, grind, so no choice.
Here is where your logic fails. When a game lacks a story or a definite purpose, it needs to compensate with variety and it needs to make sure that all the progression you go through leads somewhere and it is satisfying and meaningful and exciting. Elite is none of those things. It might be for you, but there is such a minuscule number of players like you enjoying the game that it is dying and getting progressively worse.
Change needs to happen right this second and not only does the game need to take a new direction of development but Frontier needs to fire the entire idiotic development team behind Elite that led this game to the pitiful shitty state it is in right now.

I love this game so much and I've gotten a few friends who never heard of Elite to recently start playing and they've been enjoying it too! I was recently doing some Anti-Xeno activities with members of the AXI and I was pretty bummed out when they were saying they expect this game to end / have the servers shut down due to Frontier's recent money issues. I really hope that's not the case and people continue to actually support Elite like what you're doing with this video so it can continue for years to come. However if it does come down to the servers needing to go offline, I hope the devs are able to make the game be hosted by dedicated servers similar to how ARK does it so that fans can keep the game running on their own.

You are right. The pessimism seems to come mostly from those that approach games to quickly learn mechanics and find ways to 'exploit' a game in ways the designers did not intend. Whereas for those of us that want to be transported to different worlds for real escapism in our gameplay appreciate the value of games like ED. I have played since the 1984 version on BBC B and was a kickstarter funder for ED. It was an absolute masterpiece of coding on the BBC B (I have 40+ years in the business so I can appreciate the skills) and it has progressed well. I hope with some relatively minor improvements, such as more player involvement in what ED calls BGS (BackGround Simulation) perhaps akin to what is done in EVE we might re-ignite player interest.

I think this brings home a distinction that really needs to be made especially by the crowd that bashes this game because....Star Citizen. ED is a space simulator. SC is space fantasy. They both have their places. ED is much more like what space colonization might look like and the real empty barren world that is the Milky Way. SC is a fantasy world to create a Star Wars or Firefly type fantasy adventure with realistic aspects of living but not space itself. I've been following the story of ED pretty closely since the beginning of this saga but haven't played much as I think I'd like to get some flight sticks after my last run of playing.

The pessimism on youtube is definitely a bit wearing at times. The game could've done better at a few points, and there's a lot that still needs to get fixed, but you can still put a hell of a lot of hours into it. Got into playing it with a friend recently for his first time, and was surprised how much I enjoyed playing it again myself, even after putting 4 digits of hours into it prior. I'd never built a stealth ship, or attempted to mangle a beluga into something it's not supposed to be using engineering. Good times all around.

@@Sir-Complains-a-Lot I have played this game for 1,600 hours and believe me, the engineering IS a grind. The only reason some of it is bearable is because you can cheese some of it (like Daves Hope for whatever its called), engineering more than one ship to its max potential wil waste dozens for hours of your life.
Nevermind the GRIND it takes to get into xeno combat with a decent ship (Grind Guardian Modules ie. which also only works if you relog and switch game modes once youve already landed on a guardian site, which imo, also counts as cheesing since this is not the "natural" gameplay loop), etc. This game is a time sink in all the wrong ways.
Oh yes my name on one of the quadrillion planets in the game, what meaningful progression that is!
You should be able to take influence in some of the systems more easily, etc. I personally would very much enjoy outpost building out in the vast empty galaxy, but it would probably be too much work to implement.

100% a you problem! Maybe you need to join a squad and ask them what you could do coz there are hundreds of things to do that are the opposite of boring....

@@OldManPaxusYT Higher standards of what fun is. Jumping from one Star to another over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over ...obviously translates to fun in your world. Unfortunatly it's mainly just very large and pretty. I understand there's people that get more fun out of it. But for most people it's pretty boring. Even for a big cosmology nerd like me it was lacking. I REALLY want to love this game but I just can't :(

The minority that likes the game can sing its praises as much as they want; players will keep leaving it because it is not improving, changing or developing.

Because YOUR not interested in those changes -- improvements -- or dev work doesn't mean they're not taking place.
But it always interests me that folks like you hangout in these comment sections just to cry about what you don't have, but you're here nonetheless. Seems like agenda, or narrative to me.
On about a decade on now, the game is what it is.

@@Tamburello_1994 There are no changes or improvements and the so-called "dev work" amounts to players leaving and the company going down 90 percent, that's a fact, not a question of opinion or interest or an agenda.
But fair enough, if you don't like hearing the truth.
