Oasis Interviews on why Bonehead & Guigsy Left the Band

  • In the last 10 year period of Oasis in the 2000’s, Gem Archer & Andy Bell joined as members and were generally considered the better musicians.
    Then after the band split, time goes by and the Supersonic film comes out, nostalgia kicks in and suddenly the FICKLE public and a new generation of fans are declaring Bonehead & Guigs were the real Oasis.
    This is taken from a radio documentary called 'What's the Story?' which aired in 2002. With talk of why Bonehead and Guigsy left in 1999 whilst making Standing On the Shoulder of Giants in France.

      Liam ruined their chance of storming the US Beatles style simply to spite Noel. Always some demanding attention from Noel bs with Liam, and if he doesn't get Noel's undivided attention it's a tantrum to spite him, like the ferry incident, spitting on MTV, pulling out of Unplugged at the very last second, the US tour and everything else he did to sabotage his brother. The scary thing was, I don't think Liam realized he was sabotaging Noel OR being spiteful. It was subconscious, which is even worse.

      Bonehead wrote all of their material when they were "Rain," and while in all honesty there were no standout songs during that era, that's not to say he couldn't have evolved as a songwriter with time.

    I personally think the best line up was between 95 to 98 with Alan White drumming. He was better technically and had a greater musical understanding than Tony. That's not to say Tony wasn't a bad drummer, he was perfect for the first album, but for the band to go further they needed a better drummer and Alan was the man.

    • @Koldfusion234
      @Koldfusion234 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    • @stoneroses22
      @stoneroses22 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Koldfusion234 Noel knew Tony wasn't the man to take the drums further than the first album. The recording sessions for Definitely Maybe were fraught with issues with Tony's drumming and Bring it on Down was one of them tracks where the drums were hard to pin down. Check out the Definitely Maybe DVD to see this.
      You have to look at it at the recording sessions, would Tony have been able conjure up drum patterns to suit Noel and the tracks? I highly doubt it. With Alan at the helm he was better not just as a drummer but his overall musicianship was greater, giving Noel the confidence to carry the songs forward.

      I understand what you’re saying but the urgency of the first album, Tony carrols Paul cook drumming was the backbeat to the earlier and better oasis sound.
      Morning glory was terrible in my opinion and set them on the path to later mediocre output.

    • @stoneroses22
      @stoneroses22 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@iainpark1470 Tony's style fitted the first album but it wasn't with its issues. By all accounts his drumming during the recording sessions wasn't up to scratch especially on Bring it on Down. Alan was technically and musically superior compared to Tony and Noel knew that hence why Tony had to go. Musically Morning Glory is up there , it's a band taking it to the next level. You couldn't put this down to their later output. As Noel said he wasn't going to write another definitely maybe or morning glory as he would be faking it. The later output wasn't for everyone but there was definitely tunes.

We needed to get Celine Dion and M People off the fucking radio. And along come Oasis. But musically, it's only in the last couple of years that Noel has raised the bar in terms of songwriting. As for Bonehead, even if he's songs are shit, it's not as laughable as the shitshow of Simon Cowell's enterprise. But there will always a long line of people who want fame. So they go on a game show and we take it seriously. I liked Oasis when the quality of their music and their arrogance was at the same level. Honestly i think the band hit a mark where they did everything and each one had there own thing going on. I think bonhead was done with the mass attention particular towards liam and noel, with noel in particular who controlled what way the band was going both in and out of the music so he was like fuck that. Quigsy was always a shy and reserved person so once bonehead left he decided it wasint the group he help started years ago and instead it became the gallagher brothers band and despite how significant those lads where they would have got no where without bonedhead, quiqsy, mccarroll, and alan white. That is the reason the band deteriorated though the 2000's because it was just liam and noel and thats why they ended.
    People are begging for a reunion despite Dig out your soul being there last and worst album apart from good singles and one or two good tracks off the album.

    These new oasis fans don’t make sense. They clearly know nothing bout oasis if they like or dislike Liam or Noel. Back in the day Noel and Liam were the only people to dislike Noel and Liam. All oasis fans knew that it was BOTH of them that made Oasis. Noel wrote all the songs ffs, he was the one that made the vibe around them about hope coz it was in his melody making mind, he wrote all those rock n roll good time attitude songs, he was the one in his room on his OWN writing ‘some might say’ ‘live forever’ ‘rock n roll star’ and dreaming, them songs came from his heart.
    And Liam was the greatest person to have singing them songs coz no one could mean it and deliver it so powerfully and passionately and Liam was the one when I was a kiddy that I wanted to be. So I get that all these new Oasis fans love Liam, but your just sounding like little bitches that don’t get what oasis were about when your slagging off Noel or Liam and choosing one of the other! And Noel has to experiment with his music if he didn’t it’d get to stale and I’m sure he’ll be back with his guitar. It’s like saying I love the Beatles but weren’t Paul and John shit, or I love mars bars but hate the chocolate in it! (Great analogy). So all oasis fans should just go back to slagging off all other bands again especially RADIOHEAD coz it’s annoying that there shit music now is called experimental when it’s not it’s shit and they can’t write songs since ok computer and most of them were ripped off even more then Noel used to! Guigsy was crap and has never been missed really. He is an average bass player at best that could have easily been replaced in a heartbeat. Just that he was Noel's 'yes man' which guaranteed his position was safe in the band until he decided that he no longer wanted it. His bass playing was just about suitable for the live performances also which says a lot when Noel himself would often have to stand in and wipe Guigsys bass tracks and put his own ones down on many of the records. Bonehead on the other hand is a really good guitar player and was once described by Noel as 'the spirit of Oasis'.
