- "What pisses people off about Shakespeare... Is rage."
"Desiring a thing, cannot make you have it."
"The problem with writing... Is that we all do a little of it from time to time... And some of us, start to think delusionally, maybe with a little time a little peace... Well, shit, I might be a writer too."
I like how he is telling these kids that they are not in control. They can't choose to be a genius, or be whatever they want to be. That giftedness is just that, a gift.
But at the same time the counterbalance to this needs to be that we all work, even geniuses, in a hard world. Mozart had ink stains on his fingers, Shakespeare ripped out many pages of his books, and many great artists died without any recognition or applause. A genius is not a free pass to greatness, or an easy road to bless mankind. It is just another tool that can used.
Well said.
Aleksi Karvonen but that was the whole point of Goodwill Hunting. That he had struggles himself even though he was a genius. Maybe it wasn't the math problems, but they still had to be conquered to succeed.
Aleksi Karvonen Texas, mate.
Doesn't it tell you something if a GENIUS must work SUPER HARD to be succesful? An average joe could never do that then, "If You're not a Genius, Don't Bother."
Zersix hmmm interesting. I wasn't meaning it that way, but I see your point. In response to that I would say this: 99.9% of the time, the real work for success or whatever is left undone because people don't want to work for it, or because they don't want to spend the time, or because of the risk, it is not because they were lacking genius. Work is the common denominator for everyone. Some geniuses don't work and some average joes do work, and they succeed.
That speech would just leave one genious person for each professional.. and I would like to remind yall their ain't 7 billion professions around here.. just do you what you want and keep getting better.
I work as an electrician. I followed this advice before it was even cool. Hipster as fuck.
I think it was clear that he made a joke, because beeing a electrician is a pretty good job. And if you dont think beeing a electrician is a good job, i'd like you to tell me what is a great job and why.
Corax Whew, hats off to you sir. My brother in law went through all the schooling and apprenticeship only to quit because, "It was too much like hard labor." Not the brightest man, that one...but he brought up a valid point. Being an electrician is not an easy job.
Selvis CEO
Being an electrician requires a degree in electrical engineering I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) which is the hardest engineering degree to get so hats off to you man
you're wrong.
Dude, this is a reading class, nobody is a genius
lol
RasburyProductions 😂😂😂😂
RasburyProductions that's his point don't bother
Geniuses are locked in their rooms, is that your point ?
RasburyProductions I believe it's AN ENGLISH CLASS
Does anyone else cringe at the awkwardness of College Professors and students who think they're cheeky and smart with a touch of arrogance
Dawson Boyle you're thinking about it too hard. Stop.
Lars Darling lol
Dawson Boyle A bit cringy yes
I don't think its the awkwardness. I think its the obnoxiousness, thats what makes me cringe
+somalianb0y yep.
"rage, that genius appears, where is appears, for no material reason at all, desiring a thing can not make you have it" is absolutely right.
there's a reason I've never heard of this movie
You killed me, great work sir xD
Production? interest ? You just didn't bother ? 😂
Steve's Channel cos makers of the film didn't listen to their own quote. And bothered.
Loiso Pondohva ..
well the viewing the movie's popularity , you could say they also didn't care , they just didn't bother
It's a great movie but not because the main character(I forget his name by now) is some person we should aspire to be, but because of the opposite. The ending is one of the most beautiful ending's i've watched in a movie to this date, and that may just mean i'm extracting extra levels of meaning that aren't there, but I think it's highly under rated because of the way it portrays addiction. This college professor scene is actually meaningless to the actual plot of the movie, it serves no purpose, and has only weak relation to what the movie focuses on. It's about gambling addiction, relationships, and the effect it can have on someone's entire view of the world. It's really the only movie I can think of in that category which actually is able to show you the mental state of someone with a gambling addiction, and moreover, the mental prison you are locked in.
Genius is a 10 mile headstart. But a hard work ethic can fucking take you to Mars.
perfect summary
"If You're Not A Genius Don't Bother" doesn't mean simply accept you fate. it means try and be a genius, it's your responsibility. it's only you and your judgement about yourself.
it's your responsibility to discover and nurture your talent(s).
Exactly. His analogy to sports is spot on. We accept that we cannot become pro basketball players if we're not at least 6 feet tall (182 cm). And yet we don't do the same assessment on other fields, usually intellectual.
Maybe I'm not a genius in my own time. Nobody gave a shit about Van Gogh when he was alive; now he's considered a master artist.
he wasnt a genius
CJusticeHappen21 being a genius is something society implements. Many parents believe that their children are geniuses and they send them to college to study engineering or some other shit while their actual purpose should be to work as a plummer or a cook and it's society's fault that these professions are looked down upon while most people enjoy a nice meal or a working toilet more than a working windmill..
I meant plumber of course
+Bjorn Beeren Are you sure about that? The first time I ever saw a Van Gogh painting in real life, I did not know ANYTHING about the man. Who painted it, or when it was painted. After seeing all the paintings in the rest of the museum, I looked onwards at Van Gogh's "Starry Night" and I literally cried. Now I have his books, his biography, letters, and paintings in my room. He to me, is a genius of emotional expression, and I do not know of anyone else who can depict that to his level.
Same with Shakespeare. His plays generally received mix responses during his time - it was only after 100 years later did people begin to hold him up as possibly the greatest writer of all time.
College professors like the one Mark is playing here, is one of the easiest ways to break someone's self-confidence.
There is some truth here. Nothing wrong with being an electrician. Most people are not ment to become "writers". It doesn't mean you should not learn how to write.
Not everyone is going to become a celebrated author. It does not mean you cannot become an English teacher, Editor, Journalist or Comedian. There is a place for you, you need to find it. For example a lot of comedians write their own material but it doesn't mean they are celebeated "novelists"
"Not everyone is going to become a celebrated author"
And why do you think that is? Is it:
a) Most people lack this mysterious, so called "writing genius".
or
b) The fact that most people are unwilling to put in the countless hours and days worth of struggle, toil, and persistence into it ....
or
c) Most people lack the right level of passion and appreciation for good literature. That deep in their heart, they don't really want to become the author, atleast not for the sake of the activity itself.
Personally I go with b) and c). Atleast most of the bloody time.
Gaurab Chatterjee all the above is wrong. Or at least inaccurate.
A song writer is still a writer. A song writer is not a novelist. Is one better than the other? Or one is lazy and the other is not?
If you make Lionel Messi play professional basketball. He would not be very good. Are you going to say he is not a world class athlete?
A writer can do many other things besides being a novelist. Nothing wrong with being an English teacher or a professional Rapper.
Honhoa Ong All that you mentioned is beside the point. Non sequitur. Did you even read what I wrote?
Gaurab Chatterjee I am not being non sequitur. I find your a,b,c choices to be misleading and fallacious.
You are using a false trilemma a variation of the false dilemma fallacy.
I never said it does not take hard work and dedication to be a novelist. I simply stated that not every writer can or should be a novelist. Can you understand what i mean friend. ☺
When you said 'Not everyone is meant to be a writer" in his perspective he assumed you implied that not everyone can be a writing genius. And he was telling you the contrary.
Everything is a skill. You get better with the right technique.
so true. just look at music...even singing is to major degree a skill rather than talent.
Lukas T That's bull. You can learn to sing on key and to breathe properly, but if you could be taught to sing like Ariana Grande, every singer would do that.
Singing is a talent you're born with.
Basically I'd agree but take exception like Ed Sheeran for example. There are quite some videos showing him as a late teen/young adult singing horrifyingly wrong, off key and just plane - in order words he didn't really know how to sing properly but yet he kept going and practiced the right way in order to develop those vocal techniques etc...
Actually singers with no natural talent can become professional singers. But if you are going to say that someone like nicki minaj for example has natural talent and thats what got her where she is. Well you would be mistaken
Except from natural athletic ability due to genetics and intelligence
This is the most real thing ever. If you aren’t born it, you won’t ever be it.
YaFlayedYourself Thats just defeatism. There are people that come from nothing and become financially successful and fulfilled as professionals. You dont have to be the best to be great, and barely any careers operate like either you're the best or you're nothing.
i thought the title was referring to not watch the video if not genius
well there's a genius thought
Alex SH You are a genius. I didn't even think of that, and I am smarter than everyone I know( I only know myself), so you must be a genius. That isn't me talking, that is my pride. I don't know shit. I know I know everything, but I don't know shit. Can anybody tell me what that is called? Because I am led to believe that that isn't genius. We are genius. Everything is genius. Everything is perfect, yet it isn't. Why? Why should I know? Why should I care? You know why. Envy,Greed,Lust,Pride. It isn't a perfect world. That doesn't mean that we aren't perfect beings. Know this: Yourself. You have the keys to perfect imagination. Instant faith. A transcendent perception of ideas. They are to you as food and water is to us. Teach me not to be taught. Tell me not to be told. I am the master of my fate. I am doomed to existence in this life. Lead me to be not led. I am scared.
This is a piece I wrote back in the day. It's kinda like "believe in yourself", but with a unique tweak for Alex SH's comment. Now that I think about it, I should start writing again. It's a great stress reliever.
Jose Amaya that's pretty good. It got better with each line.
Awwwww shucks. You making me blush :) jk. Thanks man. I thought you guys were onto something there so I tried to give y'all the most revenant thing I could find. Hope it helps.

The way I feel about this scene is that this character is just explaining himself and his past. This scene explains how he feels about himself. Even later on in the movie he says that he would rather die if he can't get what he wants. That seems to be going against what he is saying here.
Haven't seen the movie ( just now heard of it and want to see it)
But
My Father use to always say something like " what you say to others is also what you need to hear."
So in relation to your well thought out comment I like to hope that this movie portrays a relatable character who uses his past to teach others.
Where was Mark Wahlburg on the list of actors to play this part? Like, 5th choice?
Robert Downey Jr. Would be my number one or two.
I believe he was 4th, actually; right after Larry the Cable Guy.
Robert Downey Jr. would be a terrible choice. He doesn't have what it takes to play this part. And neither did Mark. Further, the movie relies on so many overused tropes and stereotypes that devoid it from any substance.
Where the fuck is Wahlburg? That shit is a castle!
ballsandfishes - ouch... get her done
Genius is an advantage. Advantages don't last forever when there's competition.
Albert Einstein, Leonardo DaVinci, Michael Jordan, Michael Schumacher and the list goes on... Hard work doesnt beat genius, stop lying to yourself. You prove exacly what this video says. Humans have a problem accepting greatness in ours midst.
You know the difference between the average joe and a genius can be very extreme, just read about them and you'll notice how crazy their minds are.
Genius will last, because the average ability of the genius to process and absorb new information is head and shoulders above the person of average intelligence.
Unless if the genius is purely more talented in that area, we all have encountered or at least know of ppl like that who barely try and accomplish far more than their peers.
What was genius is considered standard at that point
Well, of all the videos I could have ended up watching on TH-cam I just HAD to stumble on this depressing shit. Thanks Depresso-Man.
Anybody else have no idea what the fuck he's saying
Patrick Notstar LOL my reaction after his speech was wtf did he just say
If you don't know what he said, it's because you're not a genius.
***** what did you say?
***** yay for pseudointellectuallism!
well fk dude im dumb as shit idk
I agree with some of this. I think that people should strive for happiness that's all. Do what makes you happy. If excelling in your field makes you happy then go for it. If mediocrity doesn't bother you and you're happy with it then it's okay too. If money and power makes you happy then there's no problem on with that if you value your family over your work then focus more on family if it makes you happy. In the end the only thing that matters is your happiness and that you never willingly hurt anyone to achieve it.
The comments on this video vary. Some disagree saying its about following your dreams and doing what you believe. Others criticize them for such comments, calling them naive.
Experiences vary, as do abilities. I, personally, believe based on prior experience that people aren't born with some kind of "natural ability." I think its how you are raised, and how you develop, especially during childhood that impacts who you are.
In the end, it doesn't matter. All these comments are based off of past individual experiences (as is this one), and therefore, won't make a difference to your life.
The lecturer is right about one thing tho, there are heaps of electricians; and happy ones at that.
Life is too short to worry about one persons opinion of you.
Actually the way that your brain is formed does change the competition. But imagine your brain like a computer. Imagine it like a hardware, and now imagine the skill as a software. Having the best hardware, makes the software run smoother, correct? However, there are many users with a shitty computer who makes the best out of the software. And that is what makes the best, running the software in the best way you can, even if you have a piece of shit second-hand Dell. But there will always be those who are born with a Tianhe 1-A inside their skulls. But the point is that it doesn't necessarily makes them the best players, just by having a better hardware.
***** I completely agree. Some part of it must be genetic, but without some kind of nurture it would surely fail.
Alfred Punkers thanks for such a great comment :)
"people aren't born with some kind of "natural ability." Nope! Some people are *definitely* more gifted than others and sometimes no amount of hard work or nurture can overcome that. You think that there weren't people who started younger and worked harder than Usian Bolt or Roger Federer for example? I could work my butt off through 3 lifetimes, from start to finish, and I'll never driver as good as Lewis Hamilton or be as intellectually gifted as Albert Einstein. I believe this "you can do it too if you try hard enough" attitude in based in the false idea that your value/worth as a human being is based on what you know, what you can do or what you can accomplish. We base our happiness on that as well. We spend so much time comparing ourselves to others that the idea of us never being on equal footing with others intellectually, physically, financially etc makes us uncomfortable and unhappy. You don't need an extraordinary life or an extraordinary job or possess an extraordinary talent to be happy. Some people no matter how much they try will be mediocre musicians, writers, scientist, programmers, teachers, etc and that's okay. Just be the best *you* that you can be.
Its a combination of nature and nurture. According to the latest science, intelligence has two deciding factors; genetics and how one grew up. Its around a 50%-50% ratio, but of course it can vary.
I believe this clip portrays the theory of whether or not one can control or maybe even alter he or she’s destiny.
I disagree. Interest in a subject, real engaging interest, will carry you very far.
+meNTAL_ I don't know, why?
That makes sense. You don't need to be Isaac Newton to be successful in math and science. And honestly most people aren't interested in being Isaac Newton, they just want to be competent and perhaps above-average, or possibly well-above-average and highly successful.
Too bad he's talking about fucking writing, not math or any other subject. Hurrdurr.
Lmfao.
It's my unpopular opinion that Mark did a fantastic job. Everyone's some kind of critic these days apparently.
Yeah I agree. They thought they know everything just because they're familiar with the actor.
*Makes a speech that states that people should not follow their dreams or interesting professions*
*Is an actor starring in a movie that was as pointless as a fantastic novel*
Thomas G I mean, it's not like Wahlberg wrote this movie. He's just playing a character.
Now what is wrong with a nice fantastic novel?
Of course, that's obvious, but it's ironic regardless
I was gonna watch it - is it that bad?
Dardan M It's alright. It has its moments like this.
You could say that the whole film is about taking wins and losses on your terms and not when someone else says so
0:38 humiliating a student who asks a question is a good way to completely kill student participation
people who say "never give up and you'll achieve your dreams" are naive af. Accepting what your limits are is the first step to achieve anything.
There's a healthy balance, though. Limits aren't permanent. There's a difference between "I can't fly" and "I can't write something as good as LotR." It's not always obvious that something could never be done by someone. We should be realistic about our abilities and talents, but the heart of improvement is denying what you perceive your limitations to be. One side of you has to say, I need to be realistic with my goals. That's very important. However, the other side of you that says I can do that, is just as important. One keeps you grounded and the other keeps you progressing forward.
We humans have a lot of potential. It's just a matter of growth and education.
The only limits are the ones you put on yourself
The issue is believing in your dream. Dreaming you will achieve something does not mean you BELIEVE you can or will achieve it....If you really do believe it, then it is far more likely you can....not necessarily WILL.
My bus driver likes that Dirty Harry quote as well.
Really? Did i "put" the limit of me growing wings and flying? I've always dreamed of being a bird. Skepticism isn't pessimism, it's realism.
I think what he's saying has a lot of truth in it. You CAN learn to write or draw properly if you apply yourself, but that doesn't mean you will be Shakespeare or Michelangelo. The world is full of people who write good books or draw pretty pictures, but genius is that "extra ingredient" that makes a work of art so special and profound that it will influence all the generations to come. It's impossible to fake. That's what he's saying here. In a way, he's drawing a line between simply having a bit of talent and being a genius. You cannot reach genius-level simply practicing, unless you already have the potential for it inside you. Not everyone does. I think he's spot on about that.
So that means that even hard work cannot make you genius or genuis are born ?
@@harshbhatt3716 Yes, I think no amount of hard work can make you a genius. That doesn't mean your efforts are worthless, because you can achieve a certain level of mastery through practice, you just won't be absolutely brilliant.
@@icyangel13 alright
Of course, if you decide to be a basketball player at age 17 and are 5'6 it's pretty much impossible to make it big, but the reason we have sports leagues, rappers that make millions, people that fail in one industry only to go into another to become rich, the reason for that is that talent is followed by hard work. I think the professor is correct, but he's being harsh, emotional, and thus missing that critical point. Cheer up lads, we desperately NEED non-geniuses, we need people to FAIL at making a tech-startup only to discover their talent and hard work in financial advising, we NEED more people to fail at becoming basketball, football, players to train the kids and you know, one of them makes it big, otherwise, where the hell do coaches come from. Avoid this mentality, it is the fastest route to being a miserable english teacher.
why do you NEED all those things?
the world requires nurses, plumbers, electricians, cleaners... you can't have a functioning world with just academia.
No matter how hard Marky Mark will try he will never ever be casted as a lecturer again....
Albert Eisenstein once said, "Everyone is a genius, but if you judge a fish by it's ability to climb a tree, it will live it's whole life believing that it is stupid"
How does this apply to the video?
I don't fucken know
I just saw the tittle and thought that the quote would be good to post
Alright later, holla at ya bio..SEE YAAA!
this apply to the video as in if you're a fish, don't try to be the best at climbing trees. a monkey will always beat you no matter how hard you work, because you're meant to swim, not climb trees. so go swim, even if you don't become the fastest fish, at least your hardwork would make you better than the other fish who don't work as hard.
world would be fucked without us sparkies Marky Mark😂😂
Marky Mark teaching Shakespeare is about as convincing as Sarah Palin delivering a lecture on particle physics and non-linear equations
If everyone gave up writing because they were not a born genius all the library's in the world would be nearly empty.
I found these days its not what you know its who you know...
TechPlayground that's not new to "these days".
Yeah that's relevant all through history
It's always been this way, since the beginning of time. Truth is, you won't get to know the "right" people without certain skill. Despite what everyone says, skill and acquaintances are depended on one another. Many people just hide their skill, and complain about life not coming together and then they complain about clowns that actually bothered to play the guitar on the street and got somewhere in life because somebody noticed them. There are more variables to this equation, but I think you get the point.
firendable
Say I am a college major in construction. After college I look for some work around town. I can't find any because all jobs are filled in. The person that knows about construction and studied for it is fucked. Now take a 15 year old that has no college degree but has a uncle that has a construction company. The uncle hires the 15 year old as a labor and the 15 now has a job and is not fucked. It's who you know, not what you know.
It's more about who knows you.
I went through this face in life. Then I turn 25 and learn is all bullshit made up to add magic to some careers and not others.
Compare this to Will Smith don't let anyone tell you what you can become not even me, speech in The Pursuit of Happieness
Life is multi-faceted. There are thousands of ways to be successful at a certain field and a thousand measures of success varying from person to person. Hard work and talent are just concepts that remain that way unless you work on both. It's true when they say that talent beats hard work, but it is equally true to believe that hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard. Remember, only a sith deal in absolutes. Don't be a sith, find what works for you.
The polgar sisters prove that genius can be made.
They prove the opposite. They all went through the same training regimen, but only Judit became truly great. Judit had more talent.
Both of her sisters are Grand Masters, so what's your point?
Stelio Kontos The other two don't play anymore, but they are arguably still geniuses
Chuckedup But they never reached Judit's level.
Stelio Kontos Being a Grandmaster in Chess is the highest possible level you can reach, Judit is arguably the best female player to this day but that doesn't mean that her sisters are not great players or atleast at the same level, this is like saying Heisenberg or Feynman weren't great theoretical physicists because Einestein was arguably more sucessfull or more popular than they were.
an English language professor, ending a sentence with a preposition. XD
"...if this be error and upon me proved I never writ and no man ever loved".
Geniuses rarely think of themselves as geniuses. This is dumb advice to give a class. You'll get the ego cases and weed out the insecure but brilliant. It's also a false premise. The key to being a writer is writing, not some ephemeral state of being you're born into.
I have no idea what you said halfway of your sentence but it sounded intelligent so I'll +1 you.
Patrurjonte it's the same skill. You would just have to be better practiced in that time. That's still a skill, as you note, and skills are not inborn. It's just practice. You want to write? Write until you are good or get bored.
I didn't miss it. I don't agree. Writing was just done in different ways. Though conversation and memory were more relevant to the process.
Rory Stevens ypu know an idea got from this show states it pretty well "in the end it is not geniuses that change the world."
Dude, a genius has so much more potential, an average joe would hit the ceiling a lot sooner.
Mark acting like a genius is like Forrest Gump acting like a bully, he'll never pull it off
"You dont have to be a genius when you are already one"
A round about way of saying "Dont listen to me, Im angry."
With such short term thinking, we wouldnt have Poe or Lovecraft, both died penniless and unknown, but are now culture icons. 📚
Chance opportunity not your dreams.
***** At least be somewhat good at what you want then.
That's too easy
Chance? Eh? Did you mean chase, mr. Inspiring?
Dali said you can become a genius. I believe him.
you dont have to be a genius to achieve greatness in this world that term "genius" is excuese for losers sure there are geniuses who did great things but most successful people are not geniuese just smart and hardworking individual
There are successful people who are not geniuses. Then there's Elon musk.
And conversely, sometimes it's not worth doing what you're a genius at, if you don't love it.
Bottom-line, do what you love to do, because the fact is that doing it well is going to be incredibly hard and incredibly painful.
Shit, that was dream crushing.... still want it though.
if some bad made character in a sub-mediocre movie says it, that really doesn't mean it's true.
taking mark wahlberg's advice as a professor would be a bad idea already. i mean, his analogy about sports is terrible, too. you train to be a pole vaulter. although it's true that art is harder to make a profession in than just trades or something.
Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard
Even though this is a movie, this is wrong. As Chris Hadfield (Former Astronaut) says "You can have as much talent as you want, but if you don't practice upon that, you won't make it anywhere." Basically even though someone can be a genius if they don't practice they won't make it. If you're not a genius, all you have to do is work hard and you can make it to the same level.
But a genius working hard will always beat an average person working hard. And in a profession such as writing where the rewards are disproportionately concentrated at the top, this is fatal.
1tephania
It doesn't matter. It's only the person who works the hardest. You'll come to learn that in life.
You better have some personal achievement or life experience to back up that patronizing tone to me. A quick look at your lacklustre TH-cam channel suggests you really don't.
And no, dead wrong. Academic research suggests that excellence in anything does rely heavily on inborn talent. You might have heard some pop-science bullshit about how practicing something for 10k hrs makes you a master - well, that's just pop science, I'm afraid. You can practice basketball for 10k hrs, but you will never be as good as Kobe.
This is not to say that practice is not essential. But in any given field, you bet your ass that there are hundreds and thousands of people who are putting in their 110% to be the best. And out of that crowd, only those with inborn talent - genius, as we call it - will rise to the top.
Which is okay in most fields. But in arts & sports, where the top people make off with all the money in the market, that means 99% of people will be left hungry. Which is Mark Walhberg's point in this video.
There is nothing wrong about what you're saying, you are, in my opinion, undeniably correct, but you are missing something that professor is also missing. If everyone had that mentality, we'd have one basketball player, one soccer player, one great musician, etc. I think that is worth mentioning, because I think it's an extremely harmful ideology. Life is full of people that are not the best at what they do, shit, they aren't even in the top 10 in the world, but they have Millions!! Why? Because I may not be the best, but my level of input is so efficient and dedicated that my output is tremendous.
Work beats talent only when talent isn't working
Everything is energy. That's all there is to it. Match the frequency of the reality you want and you cannot help but get that reality. It can be no other way. This isn't philosophy. It's physics.
-Einstein
Mentions intelligence... Teaches English... Lmfao
there are many type of talent and intelligent, not just doing science and math. really show how intelligent you are to assume that
... Lies
Jesus, I have to watch this movie. Whoever made the script needs to pat his shoulder
Marky Mark telling me about what Genius is, I am not finding this character believable, though he does deliver with charisma
"He's right! We should take care of the real problems."
I hope people are not seriously abandoning their dreams because of some Hollywood theatrics.
Daniel R. Hello Neal 😴
I somewhat agree. However I would think that a person should look towards passion than talent. If a person was really passionate about literature and art, then they wouldn't settle for mediocrity.
what they would settle for and what they are capable of are two different things.
if your not in it all our nothing then why try makes perfect sense to me.... yeah dot dot dot dot .dot😂😂😂 really smiling 😂
... I'm a genius
Keep dreaming son.
To a genius it is common knowledge that he was at first, and always shall remain a dreamer.
lol
I'm a different breed.
Basically, I don't care what people think about me and my genius. I say what i want. I do what I want. And I don't worry about people saying, well a true genius wouldn't say this, or do that.
We all have genius within us. Some are just afraid to own it. I'm not.
Everybody is a Genius. But If You Judge a Fish by Its Ability to Climb a Tree, It Will Live Its Whole Life Believing that It is Stupid. - Albert Einstein
That chick looks like Heath Ledger lmao
Foolish Pupil id hit it
It's a class on the Modern Novel. Many people think that everybody can write. Absolutely not. Writers are born, not made. Geniuses are born, not made. Idiots are born, not made...
marky mark playing marky mark.......again
In 2017, that professor gets fired for verbally attacking a student, and performing a hate crime on the black student.
Wow, this is interesting.
ɷɷ I Havee Watched Thissss Movieeee Leakeddd Versionnnn Hereee : - t.co/EQMyZQlo5e
ok. after three clips, I think I need to watch this one.
He's right, but only to an certain extent. You will never write the next Catcher in the Rye or Great Gatsby unless you are a genius. However, plenty of work gets published and succeed financially even if the writer is a talentless hack. Just look at Fifty Shades of Grey or the Twilight series. So don't give up guys! You could be that next talentless hack who scores the jackpot!
This is the reason why I give it a try!
Basically people need to control their super ego(part of the brain that set high standards and moral highgrounds) if its not within your abilities, dont do it, but i disagree, with so many wasted talent in the world people who work hard can live the life of geniuses because if what your lacking is talent then fill that with years of hard work and apply that on your craft
Marky-Mark as college professor - lecturing about Shakespeare - and channeling Virginia Woolf [yeah - I caught that subtle reference] - I have essentially seen everything now.
All those fucking MacBooks
That is great advice if I would have gotten that advice when I was that age I would not have wasted 3 Years getting absolutely nowhere with my studies. Btw I am a electricien and I am mostly happy now. :)
This role doesn't match him at all.
What why? I loved him, I loved the movie :D
Never knew it was him in the first place, then I was surprised positively, so it worked.
The first step of failure is to try.
First off, the logic of Shakespeare not being the earl because the earl wrote poetry and wouldn't not put his name on hamlet is flawed because it already relies on the presupposition that Shakespeare wasn't the earl. Also, the assumption that you need to be a pole vaulter before you try to be a pole vaulter makes me believe that the "professor" has no idea what he's saying.
Well coming from a disfunctional household were my parents are divorced and both never graduated high school, plus making minimum wage, I went to college and became a licensed engineer making 3 times what they make now combined.
If you're not good at something, don't even attempt it. Dumbest advice ever. Since we now have Bugattis, why did Ford even bother? Since we now have Usain Bolt, why do kids even bother running? GFY Marky Mark.
it's a movie ydb
Arrowless Knee nope. It's real life. Movies are real life. Ybdpopmfm
They do it for fun, not to become the best or professional and that's what he is referring to.
it's a fucking movie mate.
Sal C Bolt is a horrible sample. The dude is over 6'3 and his fast twitch muscles are ridiculous I ran track long distance and I could work my ass off and will never come close to his sprint times even if I devote my whole life the running.
I too offen forget he is actually an pretty good actor.
why is th asian dude here, he should be in algebra or smth
Lol had engineering degree and there plenty of bullshit classes during first year
Haze racist
He decided to get all the degrees.
Gen Ed courses.
LOL
Dostoevsky was a notorious gambler. He described it in the Gambler novel.
2017
such a good actor
This movie was a waste of time.
The only good part was getting taught how to be in the position of fuck you's.
MrWolfSnack Agreed. Save yourself the time and just watch the John Goodman scene on youtube.
I can see the "rage" in all these comments he was talking about.
You can't be a genius if your major is in english or any other arts degree
Lol. Douchey... But lol.
You don't know, he might be completely naked.
Makaveli What I'm saying is true though. A 1.0 GPA in a STEM degree is equivalent to a perfect GPA in any arts degree.
Arts degrees are a joke. Any moron can do them.
Makaveli
Da Vincis a bunch of other stuff too. Not just an artist.
John Klitsko there's a lot more to art than you think. like painters, being genius in painting means you can come up with new compositions and new concepts that never have been taught before. they're like inventors but instead of making something like a car they make paintings. you don't get it and that's fine. even though it doesn't take a genius to understand it
back when mark walhberg was marky mark, this is how we used to make the party start
we used to, mix hen with bacardi dark and when it kicks in you can hardly talk
That's bullshit. You can learn how to draw, you can learn how to write - those are basic human skills. As long as you're not blind or deaf, or otherwise unfortunately disabled (and even then) there are ways for you to move forward. Maybe even after you're dead - I wouldn't know about that. What makes a master isn't talent, but hard work and tenacity. Talent is like a drug that gives you false sense of superiority - you can't rely on that in your day-to-day work. And writing is exactly that - day-to-day hard work. In real life "genius" - is just an excuse to give up, and the only place for inspiration is within your dreams.
Ислам Хаупшев right cuz people like Einstein just gave up
Adrian Jones read again
This is the purest of truths, Genius is a genetic predisposition towards something that envolves skill to the average human being, Check Ronaldo and Messi. CR7 is the most perfected footballer that ever stepped on a football pitch, he takes the physical part of the game to the next level, through training and hard work he achieved everything he could possibly achieve. Now take a look at Leo, a sick, partly autistic kid from Rosario that heard dozens of times he was to small to play the game, but barcelona knew from the moment their scout watched a 10 year old boy play that he had the potential to be something great, of course he worked hard like Ronaldo, but their talent its completly different, mostly because Messi was born to have a football in his left foot! Ronaldo was born to be an athlete! Messi is a genius, Ronaldo is hardwork, and because of this Messi will always be a step ahead in regard of pure talent, This is what this video is about, pure born genius!
Terrible dialogue and acting
To achieve something great, you need to know how to get there. Know what you are limited by like if you are born in to a poor family, accept that you are poor and start changing there.
Not a great actor
+Elizabeth Hoberg you aint a great fuck.
+Chris Nadeau Was it really worth saying that, considering she merely expressed her own opinion?
+Chris Nadeau chris is speaking from a position of fuck you
calm down
Chris Nadeau chill out just cuz your dad beats doesn’t mean you take it out on people who don’t like mark wahlberd
The key to Genius, is never to *try* to be Genius.
Never in history has a person admitted they are Genius and suddenly become one. To be Genius simply means to strive for, and achieve greatness in a field, and the only way to get there is by dedicating yourself to it.
If you Shakespeare never ripped out a page of his writing, we'd likely find his plays to be subpar at best, since he neither could admit when he was wrong and advance as a writer, or edit and enhance what he wrote for that specific work.
Truly, the most Genius of us, are those who know that being genius is the product of a long road of hard work and dedicated pursuit, that is simply given a label Genius from other people that recognizes our success.
You don't need to be Genius to be a Genius, you need to stop acting the character of what you think a Genius might be, and instead just, BE a Genius in every action, at all times, not as an act, but as an expression of who you are, at your core.
The Geniuses were born with no knowledge, and a few cognitive advantages.
But, the greatest Geniuses were raised or learned to aspire to create, or know, or invent, or understand, or design something that could satisfy their incredible thirst.
A Genius is simply a person who has a desire to feel they have achieved what they hunger for in the intuitive perfectionist way they seek out. With the only Quantum Caveat that they be recognized for their success.
I bothered and clicked....m I a genius finally?
Chase your dreams! And when you find they are to hard to achieve, sit down on a couch and smoke a joint. -thats what he said.
No seriously, chase your dreams!!!!!
Rather you think you are a Genius or not, you are right. If you don't think you are that capable, what makes you think that the world will be interested? Only sounds arrogant if you predetermine you are a loser, in that case, great advice, you got a low chance of success. Everyone wants something, only a few truly believe they can get it.
If anyone wants to read a complete refutation of this type of thinking, read "Mindset" by Carol S. Dweck, Ph.D.
What is your dream? How many people have been working hard for it? Know how many people are better then you at that thing and further along with a lot less work? Yah genius does exist.
