Plot:
At 17 Mike O'Donell was on top of the world; he was the star of his high school basketball team, and was a shoo in for a college scholarship. And is dating his soul mate, Scarlett. But on what's suppose to be his big game wherein college scouts are checking him out, Scarlett reveals that she's pregnant. Mike decides to leave the game and asks Scarlett to marry him which she does. During their marriage, Mike could only whine about the life he lost because he married her. So she throws him out. And when he loses his job, he returns to the only place he's happy at - his old high school. And while looking at his high school photo, a janitor asks him if he wishes he could be 17 again and he says yes. One night while driving he sees the janitor on a bridge and apparently jumps in and he goes after him. When he returns to his friend, Ned's house, where he has been staying, he sees that he is 17 again. He decides to take this opportunity to get the life he lost.

The fact that the sister allowed her boyfriend to bully and assault her little brother is the biggest problem I have with this film.
There's a deleted scene where she's saying "It's not fair, you get blamed for everything. My brother shuts himself in the laundry and you get blamed for it." I think that what's wrong is that she has low self-esteem and feels like dating someone like him makes her special somehow, which is also why she convinces herself that he is her 'forever'. So she's scared that no-one will ever want her again if she breaks up with him so she goes into denial about what he's really like and what he does and otherwise makes excuses for him because she's scared that she'll be nothing without him. But that's just how I read it.
It's really sad, the girl never defend his brother.
@@agenttheater5 agreed 💯 definitely
Agreed I will never allow anyone to bully my brother
agenttheater5 Yeah, I call bullshit. There's no excuse for allowing someone to bully and commit violence against your sibling, especially a younger sibling.

Yes, that was extremely impressive acting!! ❤❤
I love that this is the scene that makes people go “that would never happen in real life!” but an adult man falling into a river and magically transforming into a 17 year old is perfectly realistic.
that doesn't need to be realistic, that's the impossible events that start the movie. The issue is how they develop the rest of the plot, suspension of disbilief is not unlimited credit that lazy writers can tap into as they wish.
@@SoloPerICommentigoated movie either way
The problem isn't unrealistic world setting. The problem is unrealistic interaction.
Before hundred years smartphones are also magical, so a movie that came out with smartphone 100 years ago would be on the same level of unrealistic as this one.
But if the people acted unrealistic to their expected persona, it would still be a mistake. The same we would critique it now, it's the same critique 100 years ago.

Watch rhe deleted scene that follows on from this clip. (Can't remember what Zac's character is called so I shall just say Zac.) He is walking away from Stan, whilst counting down from 3. When he get to 1, h ducks down - Stan has just thrown the basketball ar the back of his head. As he ducked, it hit a teacher.
Zac is simply iconic. I love his acting
His acting has always been overlooked because of his time on High School Musical movies. He's fantastic at showing emotion. He really tugs at the heart in Charlie St. Cloud!

Violence is the question. The answer is yes
If my boyfriend had treated my siblings like that he would no longer be my boyfriend.
what?
My sister had a boyfriend like that.....right up until he met her older brother who had just moved back to his home state after a stint in the military. He bullied my sisters younger sister frequently, not knowing she also had a very protective older brother. Meeting the brother didn't turn out too well for him at all, I had fun that day.
These comments are gold! Seems I have to break down the characters of my original post, it was written with a play on words from a 1st person pov.
I am the brother in the military, I have 2 sisters both younger than myself. The dirtbag was dating the younger of the two, she is 7 years younger than I, the other sister is 2 yrs younger than I. When I shipped out the youngest was only 12, when this happened she was 19. Her bf probably knew vaguely she had an older brother but I am sure seeing I was overseas didn't think much of it. 2 days after arriving home I noticed a mark on her face, after some discussion I got it out of her that her boyfriend hit her. I asked if she was ready to break up with him, yes she nodded. 2 days later I went to the lumber yard he worked to have a "conversation" with him. Walked right up to him and casually started asking about lumber WAY in the back of the yard, he had no idea who I was. We ended up in the back of the yard, I didn't say a word and started in on him. When he was properly leaking from a few places I said only this to him. "Do it again and I will not be so nice next time". He ended up moving out of state.

I love this scene. Every now and then I come back and watch it again. The only thing that could be changed is that if he didn't had his arm already stretched out it would be even more realistic.
If he had his arm bent the power of the throw could of hit him in the face if it's fully stretched out the ball is only going in one spot and his arm won't move I'd say its realistic enough.
Sure but you can only do that if you already know the person is going to throw the ball.. The default position of your arms are next to your body, you can't have them up and stretched already before he even threw the ball. He wouldn't even throw it if he saw that. Would probably throw it in his face instead 😅

2:22 suddenly zac has high school musical flashbacks
A friend of mine got bullied on our new school by a group. So when he saw the leader of that group walk alone, he walked up on him behind, pushed him extremely hard to the ground, which bloodied his face, then sprang on top of him. He told him that he could get his revenge of course by beating him up with his friends, but he would always find him alone one day and hurt him as bad as he could. Again and again and again. They started picking on another boy and left him alone. Moral of the story: hurt them back every time (and hope they will not permanently disfigure your face when doing it)

I actually LOVED this movie. It was cool seeing him do this after High School Musical haha
The writer of the movie DEFINITELY played this in his head on how he wished he dealt with his bullies in school.
The fact that Maggie lets Stan bully her own brother and doesn’t bat an eye is making me feel some kind of way.
Well honestly it’s how she has low self esteem, she makes excuses for stans flaws and acts as if he’s the only one who “cares” about her and she feels special with him even though stan is complete shit but due to the low self esteem she doesn’t feel like helping her brother or make a big scene
@@deleted4913 stan also had low self esteem but he wouldn’t hurt this sister like that. No excuses.
@@deleted4913 Watch the film "Disconnect" (2012), the older sister does MORE than just defend and help her lil' brother out. ;)
Maggie's got ZERO excuses. She's just an attention-seeking, coward.
I liked bullies in high school, they helped me develop a mental fortitude in my youth. Cuz reality when you an adult is a constant stream of insults, rejection, passive aggressive behavior, etc. So when you think about it Maggie was helping him by not helping him.
Okay. In real life, this would definitely get physical.
Koba Agario
Zac would get slapped around pretty quick. 😂
@@psnfailout000 Well, in that case, you are ruining your reputation. Winning someone in a verbal conversation is a lot more savage than fisting them down. So the bully might try to throw some comebacks before actually losing his temper. But here, Zac is pretty much the same size as the bully is. You know bullies dont take on people of their own size, they always go for the smaller and weaker ones just to be sure that they win. At this point Zac was more intimidating than that bully.
Prithvi Sundar
Don’t get me wrong. I agree that winning verbally is a lot more of an accomplishment than winning physically. I’m just saying that stuff like this never happens in real life. Too corny and silly. Though if I was a betting man, I’d bet on the bully winning. You’d be surprised how many bullies _would_ take on people of comparable stature. Crazy, mayne.
In real life this wouldn't even happen because why? The bully would already say something back to the kid which is disappointing

Because dialogue like this is too contrived and rehearsed to be realistic. No one even talks like that.

I remember how much I couldn't stand Zac Efron in High school Musical. But after seeing this movie, much respect to the guy. Hell I started to like him too.
same here after watching this it changed my mind
You know if he hadn't thrown the ball at him, the speech would have had much less impact. 👌
She is right
Oh, oh, oh! I think i can go on a spiel about that. I thought that and then i kept thinking. Stan throwing the ball and Troy(don't know his name here) catching it like that was a show of alpha dominance. Like, to show who's boss to everyone in the lunch room. Presumably, it was thrown in so that Troy's speech would have more impact however the action actually fits Stan's personality quite well. For Stan, asserting his alpha position is beating people down and humiliating them in a simple, overpowering display backed by his colleagues. In a room full of teenagers that mostly follow along with his antics, as well as facing some chivalrous upstart, Stan would naturally follow the simple and impressionable act of squashing Troy who stood up to him. Obviously, it backfired. In response to Stan's attempt at dominance, Troy asserted his own. Kind of like "You just tried to one up me? Newsflash, I'm top dog, boy." Then proceeded to use his experiance, intelligence, and basketball skills to deflate Stan's ego. At least, that's my train of thought.
Movies are convenient like that.🤷
