A bit of audio ended up missing about Red Skelton. The connection to Red Skelton is the Nelsons, moved to Hollywood in 1941 so that Ozzie could take the job of bandleader for Red Skelton's radio program. In 1944 when Red Skelton left the radio show, Ozzie and Harriet were offered the radio program. The video mentioned regarding Love Field and JFK is here: th-cam.com/video/4VtnpVZnWyE/w-d-xo.html
Man this video sure makes me sad. I saw Rick Nelson and the Stone Canyon band live in concert about a year before the crash. It was a real memorable show. Needless to say I was shocked and saddened when I heard the terrible news. To this day I feel the loss. He was a fine singer, songwriter, performer, and family man.
Nice family. I grew up watching them on tv when I moved here from Puerto Rico. My English improved watching them. Miss those years of innocence and family gatherings to watch The Ozzy and Harriett show.
My late friend, Parley Baer, played Darby the next-door neighbor, when the Nelsons first moved to TV. He had the role for 6 years, and his and the Nelson's families became fast friends. Parley's wife, circus star Ernestine Clarke Baer, taught David and Ricky the flying trapeze act, with David catching and Ricky flying. I did not know the Nelsons, but was Parley's caregiver for his final 14 months. Good memories for a long story.

Cabin heaters need periodic maintenance. Unfortunately some heaters like the Janitrol S-200 found on the DC-3 has no mandatory requirements per an A.D or service bulletin. Even today the only requirement is basic maintenance per the Janitrol manual with no pressure testing of the heater combustion tube.
I remember that New Years Eve like it was yesterday, December 31, 1985. I was visiting my in-laws in Florida that week and the television show that was on the TV was interrupted with the news. Such sad news. I was too young to be an early fan of his but I watched The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet.
I and my whole family always watched the show every week we loved it l grow up with it l have just about all of Rick's music and still listen to it today so sad the band and all on that DC 3 l and my wife go to Rick and the band in Ocean City Md in1977 and going to his sons show this wk in on 9 15 2024
DeKalb, Texas, coincidentally, is also known as being the hometown of Dan Blocker, the gentle giant who was "Hoss Cartwright" on Bonanza. Dan Blocker also died too young, stemming from Complications from a routine surgery. He died after the 13th season, and 14 was cut short. I was on a video not long ago where one of the first police officers to reach the Nelson site had commented. We exchanged comments, as I was an officer for 17 years. He explained that when he arrived, the wreckage was fully engulfed and he couldn't get to it. There is no worse feeling in the world than knowing people are dying but you can't reach them due to fire. That happened to me once, and i listened as a man burn to death while i could see fire trucks coming down the road. I feel bad for the DeKalb officer as i can relate. The reports of technical problems alarming passengers before the crash sounds similar to the Skynrd crash.

I highly recommend Ricky Nelson’s twin son’s show, “Ricky Nelson Remembered”. My twin daughters and I have seen it many times. It’s more beautiful than can be put into words. Also, check out their Nelson Christmas show (Christmas With the Nelsons), which tributes Ozzie and Harriet, as well. It’s put together in an eclectic storyline way with the music, as well as thoughtful vintage video clips. Then, Matthew and Gunner also sing beautiful Christmas songs, tethered throughout the show. I loved Ricky Nelson very much and was glad at his resurgence at the time. I was sad when I heard the news, I was only 12 years old at the time.
I was on my way to my gig when I heard about the accident. I started praying and hoping my former friend and Road Manager/Soundman Clark Russell for The Ronnie Laws Band was not on board. On my way home I got the Sunday morning paper. The front page it was the headline and as I read I saw Clark's name and I broke down. The following day I had to go to SIR Studio Rentals and all the staff were mourning for Clark. I miss my friend and one of the best friends I've ever had...RIP ALL
Hard to believe how simple shows were like Ozzie and Harriet, yet so successful. Times have changed. The Honeymooners, I Love Lucy some classics during that time.
Great vid. Rick was here in Guntersville his final night playing in friend Pat Uptons club, PJ's Alley i think it was called. Rocker Jerry Lee Lewis had previously owned the plane & having all kinds of mechanical problems claimed NO amount of "love nor money" could get him to ever ride on it again. Ricky was one of my favorites as I was growing up I was born in 1940 so I was in my mid 20s early 30s while his band was going on and I enjoyed his music more than anybodys ,even more than the Beatles because he had a laid-back style ..he was good looking and great had great hair…which I don’t have …I loved his music so sorry that his wife and all the band members were cut down somearly in jive… but I’m sure the good Lord has him playing up there right now …no doubt about it ..God bless the memory of Ricky ……. Oh almost forgot...Rick and Kris' twin sons had some success performing in a band "Nelson" They were very talented in their own right.
It’s funny the things that were such big news stories get forgotten after so many years. This was a tragic event but I guess it didn’t reach the level of “you will always remember when and where you were” type of events. A great artist. Randy Meisner was a member of the Stone Canyon Band from 1968-1970 before becoming a founder of Eagles. Ricky was sadly overlooked in the final years of his life.
Holy Mandela Effect. I remember his plane crashing in 1985, but the news report I saw on television said that Ricky Nelson was piloting his single-engine Cessna (much like the one in an episode of the 70's TV series The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries: episode, "The Flickering Torch Mystery", which Ricky Nelson stars in) when he crashed into the Concord Mall in Concord, California. It never mentioned anyone else on board. I never heard of it being a DC3 with fellow band members on board, or of it crashing in Texas. So weird.
why the pics of red skeleton?.......i have the cd of rick's greatest hits and it always puts me in a good mood....i was born in 1951 and grew up listening to his stuff as ricky and rick....very positive music.....
The biggest reason they die is they fly all the time maybe 3 or 4 days a week. And there flying smaller planes and taking risk the airlines don't take. And don't have the back up systems as larger planes, or jets have,,
I flew several news agency's to the site that day, was working for Ward helicopters out of Vivian LA. at the time. Not much left of the aircraft after the fire.

Ozzie and Harriet was very popular year's year's ago. David and Ricky were both quite handsome. One of Rick's latest hits was Garden Party.
1971 or 1972 I believe, it was a different style for little Ricky.
