As I was watching this video, I wondered if Kristen’s problem was the she never self-actualized as an adult. Never matured emotionally. She was probably told her whole life that she was beautiful and got whatever she wanted. She really was genetically blessed. Rick Nelson’s job was to go on tour and support his family. It almost seemed like this wasn’t ok with her. Was she jealous of him? As she aged in Hollywood she probably felt hopeless and useless. Demons whispering in her ear that being a mom wasn’t good enough. She had to do and be more. Rick was standing in her way. I believed they loved each other deep down but couldn’t make that love work off-camera. Birthing Sam was the last gasp at trying to make it work between them. 😢
I think that the problem with Kristin was her upbringing. Her father Tom Harmon was a famous fooball player and announcer, while her mother was a successful model, actress, fashion designer and painter. She grew up in a very competitive environment, where it was important to be #1. When her acting and art didn't receive the critical acclaim she desperately needed, she used material possessions as a substitute and spent all of Rick's money. As result, Rick had to spend even more time on the road, in an attempt to support the lifestyle. Things got even worse when her two younger siblings started to have more success than her.
It is such a "ROYAL SHAME" a family such as these people couldn't hold it together. Drugs and alcohol will destroy just about anything. I have seen many families go through this, including mine. My Father was a violent alcoholic that destroyed that part of my family and my wife got into hard drugs after 11 years of marriage that also destroyed that part of my family. These people had it all, fame fortune, and all good looking people. I guess it goes to show us all, no matter what class of people we are, leave the damn alcohol and dope alone!!!
