yume 2kki is like probably as creepy as .flow if not more so its also very melancholy, so yeah basically the only truly happy sector of the game i can think of is the mosenite sector, as well as a few other places like radiant ruins and galaxy town all others are either sad or creepy, at least to some extent
.flow definitely has it's moments, and over time more and more areas have made it reach wilder and wilder highs/lows definitely starting to develop its' own niche!
I don't disagree! Another good example is the dark museum I think, for 2kki. Though what I think is at play here is tone, 2kki has a brighter tone then .flow which has a darker tone. But I still think .flow goes hard on the gas when it comes to theme-ing the areas, as opposed to 2kki. In a strictly horror "contest" I think 2kki wins out. I do think a good example of a better execution of a darker tone (again in a horror context) is actually yume nikki! It definitely feels more gloomy without feeling explicitly like a horror game and does scares fairly rarely.

Of all the worlds in Yume 2kki, this one is the most unsettling. Uboa? That's nothing, FACE? Just another screamer, Zalgo? Meh, The Laughing Man/Woman? That laugh isn't so scary, and the entirety of .flow isn't too terrifying either... And then you discover the Flesh Paths World, a place with an appearance and music unsettling enough that it makes you feel like that any moment, you're going to run into Giygas or something. The worst thing in this world is that that long necked... thing at 7:15, EUUGH that thing is hard to look at.
No need to downplay all the other parts just for dramatic effect; they're still terrifying/eerie/ominous, and so is this. But wow am I impressed with how cohesive this place is.

I think it was changed as it was perhaps too similar to a figure found in a painting called “I Will Never Be a Bride” by horror artist Yuko Tatsushima. I prefer this version as it is way more disturbing.
the face at 5:00 is extremely similar to the unused images of Claus from Mother 3, which terrified me as a kid. i wonder if the resemblance was intentional or just a coincidence
honestly looking at it it really is very close, that's an interesting observation! While I can't think of any other mother (much less mother 3, I never did get around to playing it) references in 2kki off the top of my head I'd be surprised if there were no others at all.

This is one of my most viewed videos, and just from the comment notifications I get, I suspect the video that "gets reccomended" to people that haven't been to this channel before, so I figured I'd put a little sticky comment here to explain some stuff on the channel. First, I am still uploading! It's happening consistently these days, once a week with some bonus videos sprinkled in there. I will occasionally skip a video upload but I try to avoid it. Second, I am putting content warnings at the beginning of relevant videos these days. It'll just be a title card at the start. (this was edited on 1/25/2022, due to a change in my process regarding content warnings; some videos may have content warnings in the youtube load bar chapter captions; though I only remember one specifically.) Third, I just want to say that, as far as I'm aware, I've not really experienced any nasty behavior directed towards anyone on this channel, and that's great. While I'd like to say that you can contact me if you see a shitty comment, I'm honestly not sure how you can do that on youtube. Regardless, if you know a way, please feel free. Note that comments do not always get sent to me, so that isn't a solution. Please do not spam my videos with comments trying to contact me. This hasn't happened as far as I'm aware, but just puttin it out there. and finally, if I can recommend a series that isn't 2kki (not that I don't like 2kki, it's great!), consider looking at yuque. One of my favorite serieses on this channel. ME is also very good, in my opinion, though the content can be a bit more intense in places, and it's pretty long. I'll also reccomend Mong Jung Mong if you're already familiar with both of those; it's a korean fangame that's honestly really good that I had never heard of prior to playing it. I wasn't aware there was a watermelon in this area, so I'm a bit useless on this one I'm afraid! It might be in there somewhere, this definitely wasn't an exhaustive exploration, I was just hitting hotspots. The wiki says wallapers don't always unlock, and that 177 unlocks from entering the area, so maybe try doing that until it unlocks? No idea if that'll work, though, I might give it a try myself at some point, as I'm kinda curious.
...Actually, as soon as I asked, I ended up finding it in the game. Now if I could just remember where... It was nearby the chick head and the green alien head with the white speckles. I think. I was so relieved after finding it that I didn't bother to keep the location in mind. But I know for sure I was near those things. The English wiki isn't the most reliable at times. The Japanese wiki said you had to find the watermelon itself. At least, that's what I assumed it was saying, considering Google Translate is even less reliable than the English wiki. But I can confirm that it was right. Once I actually found the thing, the wallpaper unlocked.

I went through this world early in my first playthrough and was quite shocked mixed with unsettled Usually, Yume Nikki and Most of Yume 2kki has an eerie atmosphere, with uncanny characters in the game there and right but their imagery won't reach to a certainty of creepiness. Like, i enter these games aware of the eerie environment in some areas but also to expect out of the blue events. Intestine Maze's atmosphere is eerie, but not that unsettling where i dont wanna come back. Then i stumbled across Flesh Paths, Most of The Visuals and the human faces are all eerie and uncanny ranging from Weirdly Goofy to downright Scary. Now alot of Yume Nikki and 2kki dont give Directly Scary Jumpscares but that Cyclops thing absolutely spooked me, a possible contender to be in my dreams tonight But HOPELYYY i dont go across a world like this right? Right???
My policy on requests is "someone says hey this is cool and I wanna see it" and I might do it if it lines up/isn't a huge hassle to do. So it's not a 100% I Will Do Everything People Ask thing but most reasonable requests that line up with the format are doable, sure!
