I believe that “Festival of Family Classics” is one of the animated series from the producers of the holiday specials, and it’s also one of the most forgotten animated series that Universal hasn’t got the rights to this and other pre-1974 Rankin/Bass series and specials. There were many home video releases of the series where it features episodes which were made by Starmaker in the late 1980’s, and I hope Universal might consider release the complete series on physical media, and streaming on Peacock in the future.
@@primusvsunicron1 I assume they were living on fumes after the mid 60's. TopCraft began in '72 but who knows, perhaps R-B was too used to working with Mushi before they forgot this new studio took over their outsourcing. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Topcraft
so I just saw the thumbnail for this video, and wanted to comment by saying how funny, but impressive it looked. if you just left the Garfield character in the image, and left out the others, it almost looks like it would've been something of a crossover. I mean, yes, Garfield is not really a Rankin Bass character, but having him in that image with Jack and those Kids makes it look like something that could have happened.
29:55 is the Rankin/Bass logo (TV Shape variant) with Tomorrow Entertainment byline, but it got cut off halfway in before the logo completes where it went straight to the “Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog” promo. What a bummer! I found this one which is the same completed logo where it doesn’t cut off. th-cam.com/video/ozx0NRyGjrQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=lKTDZvzwM4xUQqZR
About the end credits at the beginning of the video, are they taken from Hanna-Barbera's animated telefilm adaptation of Ray Bradbury's novel "The Halloween Tree"?
The TNG episode that's promoted over the credits is "Identity Crisis." First aired on Channel 50 in March of 1991. It features a cameo from legendary LA DJs Mark Thompson and Brian Phelps. They do not play themselves, unfortunately.
Mark and Brian got their start in my hometown of Birmingham AL. They became superstars practically overnight, and it was so amazing to see them go national. ❤
Now, the $64,000 question: Since the V/O prior to this show was I.D.'d as Carol Gallagher, can anyone say for certain which Chicago station, if any, originally aired this "Festival Of Family Classics" series in 1972-73? It would be most ironic if it were WGN . . . given that *other* show, hosted by Frazier Thomas . . .
this still showing in 1993.. insane tbh! how did "jack" know any of this shit? how did an american witch know JACK? how did jack get the power of the midnight sun? what IS the backstory? WTF? "the sissy with the pumpkin" ........... jesus. wait.. how did.,.. and.. wait. ... the last few mins are a mess
Magic pot o gold. Jack mentioned they'd encountered each other before and how he knew how to deal with them. He's gotten in touch with Santa at the north pole on account of his magic. He's a leprechaun that needs to recharge his powers by sleeping and having his pot o gold transport his new seed body to a random location being born as a seed in a random plant anywhere in the world originally from Ireland of course. Normal words for a male character acting cowardly. They just concluded the story by saving the farmers' 'crops from the couple. It's a children's cartoon, age appropriate for 3-9 based on vocabulary. I don't think it's supposed to be elaborately complex.
I most certainly enjoyed this story so cute pumpkin 🎃
Love anything Rankin Bass. Feel like a kid again!😊
No Holidays are complete with out Rakin Bass

I didn't even know Festival of Family Classics existed until this video popped up in my recommendations.
Golden Books, now part of Penguin Random House, once owned the pre 1974 Rankin-Bass library.
@@darrylh1971 Broadway Video also did in the '90s.
I was born in 78 + somehow I don't know this one! Ty, love Rankin & Bass 🎃 Good story for the beginning of "Jack O Lantern!
Likewise. I was born in 78 as well and never encountered this Rankin Bass film during the holidays and I'm a huge fan of their holiday specials.
How did I miss this one, as a life-long Rankin-Bass fan? Thanks for posting!!!
I miss the late 80s and early 90s. Simpler times.
We all do.
Same! 😢
Not really...
Nope. You were just aware of less.
Me too
A blast from the past. Best years of my life. Thank you soooooo much 💗🙏🤗
I don't remember this one but it looks like the sane artist that did The Night Before Christmas. Love that one too!
The little boy sounds like Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer…
I enjoyed watching this. Thanks! 🎃
That first little boy you see/hear is the voice of Rudolph, I knew it immediately.
Rankin & Bass are the best
I've never seen this special before and it's really good I enjoyed it
Definitely a new twist on the Jack O'Lantern tale.
I absolutely love this, I'm so gad it showed up on my feed.
Carol Gallagher is now one of the announcers on MeTV and Me TV FM 87.7
I thought I recognized her voice! Thanks! 😊
I was fully prepared for her to tell me it was Engelbert Humperdinck's birthday.
Rankin-Bass & TopCraft
Although this episode credits it to "Mushi Studios".

Yes! And Frosty The Snowman! It’s the same animation company 😃

Sir Archibald is the sad sack in this TV special, I take it!
Oh the nostalgia!!

0:15 The announcer lady suddenly became John Moschitta Jr with how fast she said that!
Wow, the commercial bumps for this special are way too short.
Didn't want to put too much effort into a 20 year old property then.
Yeah seems like they faded into them half cut off - maybe trying to cram more commercials in?
@@FuzzyMemoriesTV I've always hated that.
Did anyone else do a double take when the cow called the warlock a sissy? That would never fly in a kid's cartoon today.
It’s not nice to make fun of someone for being cisgender.
The voice of Michael sounds like Billie Mae Richards.
The voice of Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer in the various Rankin/ Bass holiday specials.

My idea was that Garfield, a fellow round-headed, orange-faced guy would be wondering who the heck does this pumpkin jamoke think he is? 😄

Sucks my own kids won't experience watching cartoons before school and you didn't need cable for that.
I never knew about that one before
I guess a Leprechaun is more child friendly, than a man who tricked the devil out of going to hell.
Wow, this was wholesome.

The music on that bumper to me sounded like a cousin to the opening fanfare that opened many a Thames TV show (such as, say, Benny Hill).
Ok the announcer managed to make "deadly parasite" sound pleasant. Brava
I dont remember seeing these when I was young. Are these from the same creators of Frosty the snowman?
About the end credits at the beginning of the video, are they taken from Hanna-Barbera's animated telefilm adaptation of Ray Bradbury's novel "The Halloween Tree"?
Yes, it's in the video description. End credits had to be snipped but we kept a little bit so the "Coming Next" voiceover could be heard.
