      @@WayofRamen Ok I’m back sorry for the late update. I followed the video except I only used one curry block. Verdict: very good if you like the taste of Japanese curry (which I happen to love). It’s very rich, hardy, and comforting. I’ve never had curry ramen so it was a pleasure to have this flavor on a Monday before work. Thank you so much for translating this recipe for us!
      I also added a marinated egg for this bowl. I recommend doing that as well for a topping (though I found the onion and the pork belly was good enough).

  • @redbeard_the_baker
    @redbeard_the_baker 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Do you need to pull back on the ramen seasoning packet at all? Seems like the full packet + curry roux both add salt. I guess adjust to taste, but I'm curious about your take. Thanks!

    • @WayofRamen
      @WayofRamen  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can adjust it to your liking, start with half a pack and curry roux and if you feel it needs more you can add. The heat is turned off when you add both of them so you can adjust then just heat it back up before you serve.

    Could you do this with other Sapporo ichiban flavors? Like beef or chicken

      Most hacks probably would work with most flavors. It's just trial and error.

    To better get the fond off the bottom of the pan, use only a little bit of liquid and make sure the pan is hot. This is to get it boil to knock the stuff off 👍
    Also, I would love to see an episode where Josh has a drink or two, that sounds hilarious

    So I made this recipe and thought it was great. A couple of things I would do different though. First I think I would dip the pork belly in simmering water before frying to cut down on the pork smell. The second thing I did was add thinly sliced carrots to the water while it was heating up for the noodles. Next time I might also add small cubes of potatoes.

    Would this not be too salty with an entire packet of seasoning and a block of curry roux?

    • @WayofRamen
      @WayofRamen  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I thought it would be but it tasted good. maybe at the upper threshold of being salty and still tasting good but i enjoyed it.

    I think I'm gonna try a variation of this but with ground pork instead of pork belly, can't really find pork belly easily, and Golden Curry, gonna try one block of that and edit this when I have it.
    EDIT: Yeah, this has absolutely NO business being as good as it is for how little effort it took. Absolutely fantastic!

    This looks fantastic! Thanks for the tip. I am a bit worried about it being too salty. I saw that the vermont curry roux also has salt in it. Together with instant Ramen seasoning packet, it feels like ot would (should) be too salty but that didn't seem to be the case with how much you liked it. Thoughts?
    Edit: I found some other comments that you already replied to, thanks!

      I thought it would be too salty too but it's right at the top of my threshold for salty but still tasty. Definitely felt it in my eyes after though. Probably could cut back on the soup packet a bit.

      In not really sure how to do that but the noodles I make seem to try out when I just leave them exposed to air

    Won’t it be super salty and over flavoured from the bullion and the flavouring already having salt.
