Thank you for this review. This was a good decade ago. I don't do music anymore I'm afraid, enjoyed no support and now my focus is elsewhere. Amongst the alternate hustles and perhaps ironically so, I have recently published a memoir, aptly called "The Book of ProVerb" but this was certainly an enjoyable trip down memory lane. Bless.
Hope you can see that South Africans are finally waking up to and showing some love to your music and lyricism. Even 90's and 2000's kids love it. Please consider doing one more album. And Yes, would definitely buy it. Otherwise, as a family man myself I respect your hustle man. We all gotta feed our families and do things that we feel most appreciated in. Our loss... PEACE, KING!!!
"I'm no journalist so I dont write for the Hype" this a double entendre playing on the word hype which means buzz but also Hype is the name of SA's equivalent of the Source magazine which Hype magazine is of course written and edited by journalists. Great bar🔥🔥🔥
Bro!!!! Especially because HYPE is a Hip Hop magazine, it just makes it crazy for me as to how he kept everything Hip Hop in his lyrics with that crazy wordplay....
The opening line of the first verse "i write what I like" is genius and sets the backdrop for the whole verse because it references Steve Biko's book title. Proverb is a godfather of rap in South Africa. Big bro doesn't get the respect he fully deserves at home.
Thanks for this comment cuz... they are indeed need to react to this song and there's a lot which they can learn from South Africa 🇿🇦🙌 and Africa as a whole... Thanks!
Fouthwrite is also kind of a play on words because this was his 4th album (The book of proverb, Manuscript, write of passage, fouthwrite and red tape) He is a double entendre specialist, a master lyricist and one of my all-time favorite artists. I salute you brothers for showing him some love. Just for interest sake, he has a track called "Sex, drugs and alcohol" on his 1st album featuring Tumi, who now goes by the name of Stogie T. Check it out
HYPE is a HIP HOP magazine in South Africa, so HYPE has a double meaning in the context, meaning HYPE literally and HYPE the magazine, that's the classic PROVERB there
I hate that your hip hop reactions aren’t getting the love that your other videos are getting. You guys are so knowledgeable in hip hop, so this is what I come see
In know, right? I personally want them break down every song on Rawkus Records-Best of a Decade 1995-2005. Songs from that album float into my head everyday. I am a huge Tool fan, and them reviewing Tool is why I am a subscriber. But, I am getting just as much enjoyment from this video.
What you guys missed is that "I write what I like" was a Book title by Steve Biko who was like a Malcolm X to South Africans during apartheid. Which is the inspiration behind this song title.
I am pleasantly shocked. South Africa on the Lost In Vegas radar for real. Thixo! Suggestion: A-Reece - In Hi$ Image Absolutely fire, some light from the newer generation.
All of the people at the end of the video are South African based writers in different forms. They are rappers, poets, journalists and playwrights. All very talented people who have written something special. They write for the right reasons
Everytime I listen to this song I always felt reacting to it and decoding it simce I feel like it's one of the best written songs I've ever come across. As a young writer this somg gets me going everytime I listen to it.
Also the line "I write what I like" is a reference to Steve Biko's book. He was an apartheid activist and an ANC youth leader of his time, unfortunately he was killed like many other activist who shook the white apartheid regime.
I cannot believe I jumped on this channel only today. Been watching for 2 and half hours straight. Thanks to Loadshedding but I'm hooked and thank you gents for reacting to SA Hip Hop like this and breaking the bars up like this it's interesting
Thanks for your honesty guys that's why you the best. Even you want more from him try "I have a dream" from the album The Book Of Proverb. This dude has always been more of an emcee than just a rapper or musician, he puts more effort into his bars than anything else.
FFFFFINALLY!!! 🙌🏾 Bigup to y'all. The reaction are always loaded with substance, honest opinion, and refreshing perspective... I'm always lost in the beautiful word play when I hear this, but y'all actually made me listen do the song and I can totally agree with that "after-school special" notion. As far as my knowledge serves though, Proverb has never been, as he mentioned, for the mainstream or about the hype so this particular piece I belive was in no way meant for mad radio play and he knew that because the majority of his art is for real heads that are gonna digest the content to the very last full stop, lol - much like y'all. I appreciate the channel, keep the great work up kings. ✊🏿spirit
Now this is some rap I can get into! I grew up in the 90’s and I’m more into rock and metal, but I remember a lot of rap/hip-hop in the 90’s and early 2000’s that was straight fire-even the mainstream shit. I appreciate creativity, innovation, and authenticity in all music, qualities that IMO have been severely lacking in rap for a while.. But maybe I haven’t been looking enough into the indie, underground, and non-American scenes!

I've read the book. It's amazing
Ohh, didn't know that🙏🤙
Fun fact, the "I like what I write, and write what I like" is inspired by Steve Biko's book "I write what I like" the father of black consciousness.
"I'm no journalist so I dont write for the Hype" this a double entendre playing on the word hype which means buzz but also Hype is the name of SA's equivalent of the Source magazine which Hype magazine is of course written and edited by journalists. Great bar🔥🔥🔥

What you guys are looking for is A REECE - IN HIS IMAGE period
Proverb is a legendary lyricist.
Thanks for doing this. Although he doesn't rap anymore, he was one of our earlier lyricists. Sadly he peaked when hip-hop was not the main genre.
I had no clue how much of a lyrical genius Proverb is.❤🔥
Nam 😭😭😂😂😂 or i was focusing in school too much, now I'm better 😬🤞
Everyone at the end is in the entertainment industry oneway or another. Actors, poets, musicians etc

The people in the video are some of the greatest authors, songwriters and writers in general in South Africa.
The song old tho🎯
Some of the actors in this video had roles on the Emmy award-winning drama 'Tsotsi' in 2005.
A whole lot of SA ARTISTS in this video!

Steve Biko was never a leader of the ANC Youth League bro, he was never even affiliated with the ANC for that matter
Yeah, he was with SASO. They where the ones who rallied the troops(students) for the Soweto Uprising.
