      Please react to this song. We used to sing it during the 2015 Fees Must Fall. This was when all Universities and TVET Colleges in South Africa had a national shut down where we fought for Free Quality Decolonized Education. Fees Must Fall was very similar to the Soweto Youth Uprising protest in 1976 protest.

    One thing I've come to realize is that the lead singer doesn't always have to be a good singer. I cannot stress how much of a spiritual experience these songs are, NOW when you have a lead singer who sings with their heart you can get completely immersed in it, you can get completely lost. South Africans are incredibly spiritual people, it's amazing.

    St Stithians Boys College is the school singing in the first and third video. It’s my school❤️ we call the boys wearing the half blue and half white blazers the war cry leaders (you’re right, they get us hyped). In the third video, the boys wearing light blue blazers have been awarded honors in a certain aspect (could be sport, academics, culture, etc... eg. rugby). The boys wearing the white scarfs are in Matric (grade 12, final year of high school) - it’s just a privilege. Finally, the boys facing away from the camera in the third video are who we call the dukes, they are pretty much the elite choir of the school and they do a lot of a-cappella. The dukes get to wear grey scarfs to show that they are apart of the group.

Its also nice to see that white South Africans are taking part in our war cries and amagwijo in solidarity and allowing us to express ourselves the way we do best. When I was in high school we only sang those white chants 'we got the spirit, yes we do'. So this amazing to see.

      @N O M F U N D O you're the one who's lying. Every tribe in SA, except amaZulu, goes to the mountain for initiation and we all sing. The term "igwijo" is a Xhosa term yes, but Africans have been singing such songs from the beginning of time

      @N O M F U N D O ,pretty much all African sub Saharan tribes sang amagwijo from antiquity, obviously with each having a different name for them. Also mountain initiation is an African thing, all tribes in SA except maybe Zulu people, do it. In Tswana and Pedi is called Koma.

    • @MziFitness

      @N O M F U N D O I will never Spread lies, I happen to be Xhosa.
      We call them amagwijo, and each tribe has a name for them.
      In fact igwijo is another song for "ingoma" (a song).
      We don't only sing when we go to the mountain.
      We sing on all the events as well.

    Back in high school we used to have this thing we did on Fridays after school where the entire school would go out to the rugby field pavilions and we would “speak to the mountains”.
    The term “speak to the mountains” came from the fact the our school was built on a mountain, and when we did our school’s ware cry we would be so loud you could hear our voices eco through the mountains. It would literally sound like the mountains are chanting back to us

    All school's in South Africa have uniforms, you can identify which school a learner goes to based on the uniform.
    The weather in South Africa is very different, it could be freezing with the sun out. Also keep in mind that it doesn't get as cold here as it does in the US.
    Umgwijo(Oom-Gwi-Jo) you pronounce the G
    Traditional South African music is generally very inclusive, as long as you know the harmonies, it doesn't matter whether you can sing or not.

    I bet when you was reacting to the war cries, you felt as if you were in a Black Panther scene😂

    Anyone can sing , it’s not about being the lead singer , it’s about joining the spirit. Here in Africa we sing when we happy, sad, angry, mourning or celebrating. It helps with the soul and processing one’s true feelings . One love
