When I was a teenager, I visited a family in Eastern Germany (GDR) and 5 of us took a two-day trip in this car. And it was just fine. I don’t get the eternal criticism of Trabant - it was the right thing at the right place, where the population tried to make the best of a dire situation (like, the entire country was on a lockdown).

Superb. What a great idea for a restoration of a Matchbox That Never Was. Deluxe trim level too, with the chromed grill. I thought Trabis had a painted grill only. The 601 series had such a long model run (1963 - 1991) it could be made with almost every different Matchbox wheel type - except for the earliest metal wheels.

Fantastic little Trabi Paul. These are great looking cars, even though the bodies were made from cotton and they had a smokey 2 stroke engine lol 😄, l've got a pull back and go version l found on holiday once . I'd love a real one with updated engine chasis and suspension 😊👍
