    Southernboys has done it again. Great post! I've been training carpet installers for over 20 years with CFI. We teach this to every student and you are spot on with this one. Thank you for adding this! I will be referencing your videos in my trainings in the future. One note. The hot melt is the most recent and improved way to seal seams and I prefer it. However traditional latex sealer works and you can do it without wait time. If you only apply to the edge of the primary and secondary backing as you demonstrated, it will not interfere with adhesion to the thermoplastic on the seam tape. Be careful not to get it on the backside at all. You can also wipe it with a scrap of carpet. You are simply looking coat the yarn bundle at the very edge. All seams shall be sealed unless otherwise stated by the manufacturer. See CRI 104 for commercial and CRI 105 for residential under seam sealing. Great videos Southernboys!

    BRAVO! We seam seal every carpet repair also. If you dont have a tip for your glue gun break out your hair dryer. I've busted many an install due to non power stretch and no seam seal.

    Gets in the nap almost always with any plush or frieze, leaves hard spots throughout. Some berbers leave a rock hard line down the length too. This is with latex. Would be terrified to use a glue gun. Can imagine having to recut the seam until the carpet ran out. Lol. That little 2ft demonstration piece is one thing but running that bottle or gun down a 30ft seam is just a tad more tricky. 😉

      bOLNHd It’s all the same, he just barely get any glue on it there’s not Any hard spots or Glue getting on the nap if you do it right , But I completely hear you because I have noticed that about hard spots and stuff , And what I have seen is it is a buildup of the seam tape glue in particular spot, that’s why it is important not to run your iron wide open

      The cheap backing nowadays sure doesn’t help either. Happy to have found your channel. In all my years, I still like learning new tricks. Already learned a few from your vids. Thanks man!

    Hello I’m a big fan of your channel and appreciate all the how to videos you do ! I have a question I recently started tufting my own rugs and I wanted to know how to make my edges not fray and I came on your page can you send me a link to the gun your using and the glue sticks I need for it ? I would really appreciate it . If I use this gun I don’t need to use a seam sealer as well correct ? Just the gun and glue sticks ?

    If you're seam sealing plush to stop seam peaking your stretching to tight across your seams. It's totally NOT necessary to seam seal plush style carpet.

  • @esdrasisai1558
    @esdrasisai1558 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    But you put seam sealer in plush carpet, that is made only for Berber

    Okay first Im hoping you guys dont make fun of me 😅 I was hoping that you could help me. Single mom trying to make extra money, I got some remnant carpet that are pretty good sizable pieces so that I could post them for sale. And not really knowing anything about carpet I realized ...later that the edges fray. I watched your video and I went online to look at buying a peekbuster professional electric glue gun so that I can seal the edges, and I want to make sure that I buy the right glue for it. Can you help please. 😊

    I hate that junk, we called it buttering the edges.
    If you drop a little latex on rug somewhere it will stain and you will be back.
    The hot melt, a lot of guys get the nap in it and it looks nasty.
    I have a better way but not sharing at this time

    • @FloorsbySouthernboys
      @FloorsbySouthernboys  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michael Trevino well if people are getting the nap in it they just need more practice and to slow down a little bit
