Thanks again for the amazing content. I was considering going to Slate Phuket next year on holiday, and now I have a clear picture of what I can expect, and I like what I see.
I certainly do appreciate everyone who takes the time to do hotel reviewed. Thank you. I do a lot of research including watching these to make my hotel selections. My friends actually call my TripAdvisor because I am relentless in knowing everything there is about where to stay and book our stays point to point. That being said, it’s people like us that would be interested in hotel history, unlike our friends/family who seem to be the majority of travelers. This hotel suited me not only because of its history and decor, but the location being away from all the hustle and bustle. So the extended stay I booked in their amazing 2 room villa, I would alternate in and out days, exploring Phuket but always coming back “home” to also enjoy the resort. Aside from my personal investigation, perhaps the hotel staff did give such history when it was the Indigo Pearl? Nevertheless, outside of watching a lot of the Bensley videos, I was fortunate to have a butler with my Villa who enlightened us as he gave the property tour. It has inspired me to stay at some of his other hotels like the Siam and Capella Ubud ❤
From what I've read, the Indigo Pearl was nothing to write home about. If the staff didn't feel the need to explain this very very 'explainable' resort, I can't imagine them doing so at a ho hum property.
I loved my stay at The Slate. Room, grounds, pools.food, proximity to airport, beach and local village. In regard to the check in staff not mentioning anything about the history, hmmm. It could become a chore if they had to explain it to every single guest, and often guests just want the keys to their room asap. How about if guests who expressed an interest in the cool design or history were then offered an explanation on things? I think that would be a good solution for all.
If this was a business hotel, sure. But, for the vast majority of the guests the staff need to drive you and then further walk you to your room. They have a perfectly captive audience for those 10 minutes. Whether the guests want to 'tune in' to the explination is up to them. Not to mention the printed materials which could help them with all of this. At the JW in Phu Quoc you never feel like you're been lectured about the concept of the hotel bc the staff are literally just living the concept- all "actors" in their own right.
Happy holidays! 🎅🏼🎄🕊️💫🦌 I had to think of you today when driving by The Intercontinental and Jimbaran Puri Belmond! Thank you for this extensive review! 🙏🏼🤩
Thanks Kevin. I was at the Slate earlier this year and thought it was very good overall. While I knew it was a BB hotel, they didn’t explain the history so I did assume it was just an over the top themed hotel on steroids 😂Totally agree about the Black Ginger. I had a tasting menu too and was a bit disappointed. Ambience was great though so did cocktails at the bar. Only eat there one night as food a long the stretch of beach was cheaper and better.
Thanks for sharing! I'm glad (for the sake of an accurate video, at least) that I've seen multiple "I didn't know either!" comments on the video. Hopefully something they can notice and fix.
I have a soft spot for Bensley properties and a frustration with properties which don't live up to their design. It was a perfect storm in the making lol.
Nice review. However, releasing a Phuket resort review on the 20th anniversary of the tragic 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami certainly deserves a mention of the event and those who perished.
I've been publishing Phuket and Krabi videos for the past two months, Thursday is my normal posting day, and these videos were edited over six weeks ago... Not always able to have 20/20 foresight.
Nice review Kevin! I love the grounds and the pools but the bedrooms are just not my taste. The rust and wear on the decor and furniture just give a non so clean vibe.. that's a pity.. did you feel it too?
Yeah it was in some ways. There was something about the room that just felt "Bill Bensley value edition & in need of a refresh"... It felt like a collection of things rather than a cohesive design- and the wasted space in the closet (considering the room wasn't huge) annoyed the heck outta me lol.
No you cannot. While Hyatt owns Mr & Mrs Smith (which is just a booking platform) and you can book nearly 1000 of the MMS properties through Hyatt and get some benefits, you generally cannot book any MMS properties which are associated with other major brands through Hyatt. The Slate is a Design Hotel (part of Marriott) and so, it's not listed on Hyatt's site.
A Beautiful resort but very busy (lots to look at). I thought a resort was supposed to be relaxing on the brain but unfortunately this doesnt look like it.
This hotel feels very awkward. No real Thai aesthetic and yet fails to be contemporary. None of the spaces are welcoming enough to me, except the overpriced restaurant. Also, are those hard sun loungers?! Extremely glad I chose Como instead.
Yes, the loungers were actually one piece (that I didn't mention) which I though would be fixed if this was say, a JW. Too many small things which make a big impact overlooked.
Agreed. While there are a handful of adults only resorts around - families with kids is the bulk customers for many - ergo kids clubs, water slides and kid pools
Oh, and thanks for recognising me as a long term viewer. 😁😉
They don't come much "longer" in the context of this channel! haha
Great "spot on" review. I couldn't agree more. Thanks, Kevin.
Thanks very much 🙏🏻

Another great trip, thanks.
Melting tar and a Flip Flop Traveller do not mix! 😵😵💫

Same to you! Happy to be back in that neck of the woods for more fiming very soon!

Never seen you try so hard to like a hotel...the best part was your pronunciation of Thai names. Happy Holidays and Happy New Year.

Same to you!

@@charlesthistlethwaite it was so tragic, however what you have said is a bit strange. I don’t get it!
This resort was featured in the movie "Changeland".
Oof 😥 bad timing for sure with the repaving of the walkways, that would have ruined my whole experience. Thanks for sharing 😊
Yeah, but I do suppose it was on theme though... rubber tires, nuts and bolts and all 😂
😂😂

Can you book with Hyatt or do you have to book with Mr and Mrs Smith? If you can book with Hyatt what is the purpose of Smith?
No you cannot. Did you say Alfred r broccoli or albert r broccoli? And the film is called the man with the golden gun. I also don't mean to nit pick.
I'll take your word for it that whatever I said was the wrong way.

Weird hotel !
Harsh lol

I guess a nice video, but you lost me once I saw kids. resort's should be a kid free zone .
That has to be the silliest thing I've read all day.
