Great video Steve and very inspirational for this new ham. Looks like a great trip and a successful activation. Awesome video work and photography! I had to watch the beginning a couple of time as there was some very useful information in the captions!
Awesome adventure and 1+ to the video. Must be fun juggling cameras and dealing with an expedition like that. Glad you got the activation but good call heading down with the fowl weather
Fariba and I climbed Mont Ste. Marie (SOTA summit VE2/OU-001) with our HF gear, we were hoping for a summit-to-summit contact with you! Great video, Steve! Congrats to y'all and hope the WX cooperates next year.
Hi, Steve. I finally settled for the FT-450D. I'll be able to get on-the-air (with 5 watts) while I build a K-1, although I recently became aware of the KX-2, which sounds like a possible option. In a week or two I'll get the 40-10 loop up fed with ladder line. I'll be stalking you on SOTAspots. Thanks for all your inspiration. 72 from N1MO, Lon in MO. ;-)
I was curious about the details of the homebrew 10 watt solar panel, the Buddipole mini-coil (don't see that on their website), the modified Buddipole vertical dipole (? long counterpoise) and your impression of the Buddipole Li-PO batteries (I'm thinking of getting these for my portable power). I just picked up an FT-857 and I'm quite anxious to get it up on the air. Sorry for so many questions! I love your videos . . . thanks! 73 - KF7ETX / David
You're a lucky hiker with a strong stomach/intestines my friend. I've contacted giardia twice while hiking here in the Rockies. And it wasn't fun!! Hence I always boil or filter the water I drink without fail.
@USNERDOC Glad you enjoy the flicks! Guy & I got the PowerFilm panels ($2/each) @Dayton. He put his together using carpet tape and the camo fabric. also built a controller to limit voltage! Yes we were product testing the Mini-BP Coils which aren't available yet! The A123s are really nice, lightweight do the job. They do take a special charger. Contact Guy/N7UN for more info vertical & panels
Wahoooooo !!!!!!!!!!!!! That's what we call an EXCELLENT SOTA GUYS and a very nice video montage - Funny and very well done GUYS TNX for all of that ! Waiting your calls from our "small summits ! CHEERS ! Free DXers
@shenb Thanks! I have a half dozen small camcorders, helmetcams and pocket digital cameras. I use different cameras for different situations etc. Thus the different formats. The helmetcam (hatcam) was on the 16x9 format in this case you noticed. I mostly shoot std. definition as it' easier to edit with the smaller files. I edit in Final Cut on my old G5 Mac. This last video took over 50-hrs of editing! Doesn't include the shoot!
Wow, I am not into HAM Radio videos, but I had to watch...the hikes are amazing, and surprised to see your kid buddies along for the hike. Nice Work. What part of Colorado was this filmed? I am not familiar with this hike and would love to give it a go with my wife Take Care Matthew
Again a nice video with pictures of great landscapes. I always like to watch your videos

Great production. Well done on the radio side of it too. No SOTA network active in Australia yet. Andrew (vk1da)

Hey Steve,
Was this hike from the South Winfield Trailhead?
Forgot to add a link to our summit-to-summit attempt.
It's here:

Thats a good idea. Have the goats carry your load up the mountain and then eat them. No, just kidding. Looks like fun!
