Thanks for putting this out, Steve. We are having a problem with bleeding the brakes of my mate's Zephyr Six. We have left it overnight and will be looking at it again in a little while. Will update when we get somewhere with it. Very impressed with the job you are doing and the quality of the video and tech explanations. Mart.

Thanks for the comment. Everyone has problems with those master cylinders, I may do more on that subject someday.

@@StevesConsul Hello again Steve. I'm sorry to report we failed miserably to bleed the zephyr. We decided to do a conversion to later type girling cylinders. Once done, the system bled instantly on the first try. I am preparing a video on the subject. Mart.

This is interesting to me. A few years ago I had to change all the slave cylinders in my Mk1 Zephyr. Their connectors were corroded solid in the cylinders so I had to cut through the pipes to replace them. So I replaced all the hoses, all the slave cylinders and most of the pipework. But, for the life of me I could not get the system bled.
The master cylinder seemed fine on the bench but, at the suggestion of the helpful local garage owner (I'm in France), I fitted a new replacement master cylinder. After that, no problem getting the air out of the sytem.

Yes these master cylinders are not the best, I found the piston was not returning fast enough to pump out all the air. I think it all depends on how tight the seal is in the bore. I think Allan Sim had a good idea he used a clamp on top to pressure bleed. facebook.com/photo/?fbid=4542531865837588&set=pcb.2085509271614298

My Mlk1 Zephyr just passed its French Controle Techique and measured 75% (= excellent) on brake effificiency, But there is excessive movement on the pedal and the pedal is a bit spongy. I bled all the brake cylinders and all the shoes were properly adjusted. I'm wracking my brains trying to figure out how to cure the excess pedal movement.
(I'm sure that when you talk about putting oil in the cylinder you're are talking about brake fluid not engine oil....?)

Yes, these cars are always difficult to bleed. Only use brake fluid in the master cylinder, and the easiest way to bleed is with a pressure bleeder.
