Don’t start the engine while operating the roof as it can confuse the sensors and gets stuck. There’s a special tool next to the fuses to cycle the roof manually which fixes it. Only happened to mine once in 10 years so I only use the roof with the engine running and has not happened since.

Matt, ECON = NO AIRCON, this is VW and AUDI thing (had multiple cars with this ECON, which does not make much of a sense...). Press AUTO or depress ECON and then AIRCON will be in working mode. Hope that helps.
Matt, I used to be a class one driver, and on a MERC I ran Firestone tyres and did 120k with them. Changed them when worn out too, Triangle. Same truck, same work, same driver, they lasted, 50k, so mate be warned they are rubbish, better to be forewarned. We sent all of our unused ones back to our tyre supplier.
IMO With all due respect Robert, Matt knows that Triangle is another cheap Chinese Tyre Only $ 50 each Tyre But, it’s an 18 year old car, at a $ 3,995 ask And not a performance version of the A4 either. It’s got 4 new tyres, which would be a big plus to potential customers. Unfortunately a potential buyer in this price bracket, is highly unlikely to gladly pay a high price or top dollar & No discount on the Audi, just because it’s fitted with 4 new Michelin or Pirelli tyres that would cost $ 800.00 If Matt had fitted new Michelin or Pirelli tyres, the car would then owe him $ 3,500.00 Instead of it owing him $ 2,900.00 which includes the $ 200.00 cost of 4 new Triangle tyres. He might only get $ 3,500.00 for the car ? Equals - NO profit ! In many other videos, Matt does spend a lot extra to fit a decent brand of Tyre…. When he probably should not, as the extra $ 500.00 spent for a decent brand of Tyre, most likely won’t be appreciated by the customer, and it takes a huge chunk out of slim margins on cars of this price bracket… In 90 % of the videos, the cars Matt shows us in videos generally are fitted with a “ no name brand “ of Chinese Tyre… Even on fairly late model cars, such as BMW or Benz that High Peak have traded or bought 🤷🏻♂️
Whilst not for me, that car looks amazing for the year. I remember in the late 90's if a car had a sun roof or is convertible air con was not fitted. so don't see a problem with that, also the paint work looked really good for a 17 year old car. Think this will be snapped up quick. Great to see an old car given more life again. Great video Matt.
IN Australia we have to have aircon. Even a drop top. In summer the top goes up at 9am and air on and the top doesn't come down until 5pm. IN winter the top stays down most of the time as our winter temps are about 20C during the day and a low in Brisbane Queensland is 6C. That is a nice car and well looked after.
We have had a our S line 2008 for 15 years , sound as a pound , if regular services carried out . Down side leaky third brake light gasket , which also damages the rear number plate lights and a common fault on the pump motor for the roof , which I believe was sorted on latter models . Fun to drive and never dates , and not regarded as a chav in an old BMW .
I had a B7 Avant. Before and after that car I looked around for months and never did I come across a £1200 Audi A4 cabrio in such a good condition. I like your videos but I get this 'no way' feeling quite often.
Had one of these. Looks better than they drive (typical Audi - designed to out-spec Opels and charge a premium for shiny bits). People hated the multitronic but I must say it is the best CvT I’ve driven.
I thought I recognized the area he was driving through - Romiley Stockport where we used to have the restaurant business in the shopping precinct up until 1999 after around 20 years of trading. I worked there in the part owned family business from 1987 to 1998.
That auto is a trip ironic box the best one to have my son was a wolkswagon van tech..master said don't need to change oil Passat eat 1.8 turbo but he did.. me in the cab... son on the computer done.. test drive..a lot faster t /tronic the best vag made !!!!!
I pick up loads of cars for motorway and the only time the buyer walks away is when the car is not as described e.g engine light on, roof not working in this case. More often or not the buyer just offers a lower valuation to reflect the actual car, but I guess in this case the buyer did not want to get involved in buying a convertible where the roof did not work
Had one of these for 16 years. Great car. Great drive and a future classic. Only fault - outside of wear and tear - in all that time was a seized roof motor.
Hey man, im thinking of buying a used audi cabrio with a milage of around 200k km - 250k km. Theyre going for around 2 3k euros. Think its a good idea? And how often does the roof break?

I agree. It looks great from outside. The interior is a tad too old school and basic for me though. 😂

Boot switch on my 2010 XC60 stopped working, the microswitch has a known issue of grease causing an issue with connections, fix is to remove the rubber boot over the switch and spray/inject solvent to wash the grease away and fix the switch or you can replace the switch and whole housing for £150 as the switch is not replaceable.
IMO
With all due respect Robert, Matt knows that
Triangle is another cheap Chinese Tyre
Only $ 50 each Tyre
But, it’s an 18 year old car, at a $ 3,995 ask
And not a performance version of the A4 either.
It’s got 4 new tyres, which would be a big plus to potential customers.
Unfortunately a potential buyer in this price bracket, is highly unlikely to gladly pay a high price or top dollar & No discount on the Audi, just because it’s fitted with 4 new
Michelin or Pirelli tyres that would cost $ 800.00
If Matt had fitted new Michelin or Pirelli tyres, the car would then owe him
$ 3,500.00
Instead of it owing him
$ 2,900.00 which includes the $ 200.00 cost of 4 new Triangle tyres.
He might only get
$ 3,500.00 for the car ?
Equals - NO profit !
In many other videos, Matt does spend a lot extra to fit a decent brand of Tyre….
When he probably should not, as the extra $ 500.00 spent for a decent brand of Tyre, most likely won’t be appreciated by the customer, and it takes a huge chunk out of slim margins on cars of this price bracket…
In 90 % of the videos, the cars Matt shows us in videos generally are fitted with a “ no name brand “ of Chinese Tyre…
Even on fairly late model cars, such as BMW or Benz that High Peak have traded or bought
🤷🏻♂️
'I hate this era of VW/Audi battery area covers' is why I love Matt :P
Well done Matt it was worth restoring this car .
Someone has now got a really good car
Kevin
I'd recommend double checking with Audi as VW and Skoda have removed the recommended Cambelt time interval and they are on mileage only now
Just to add to this, this was only announced a matter of weeks ago
Whilst not for me, that car looks amazing for the year. I remember in the late 90's if a car had a sun roof or is convertible air con was not fitted. so don't see a problem with that, also the paint work looked really good for a 17 year old car. Think this will be snapped up quick. Great to see an old car given more life again. Great video Matt.
This channel is like a unloved car outreach project.
On my old 2003 skoda octavia and the old 1999 merc a-class my family has in spain, turning the ECON off, turns the aircon on.
Had a 2006 S4 cab with the V8, not the sharpest drive but sounded amazing and was a comfortable and stylish way to travel, pretty rare too
Me too, loved it!
Marvellous video: a thought though - often the aircon proves useful in winter morning rapid demist........
Matt, i bet someone already said here but the A/C in the older Audi works like this: ECON ON = AC OFF.
ECON OFF = AC ON
IN Australia we have to have aircon.
Nice to see one go to the car grave yard for a change Matt, not all are good but nice to see one on the channel.
Thanks 👍
I could tell it didn’t sit right with you about the air-con! Standards Matt Standards 😂😂😂 that’s a lovely looking car though 👏🏻👍🏻
I know the hankook tyre would be in the boot, the original spare dunlop 2006 is on the front nearside.
Clean car, for an old bus....well worth a punt.. respect 🙏
If ok, easily £4-5k in Sweden... if the steeringwheel were on the right (left) side of course! ☺👍
Nice one Cyril (Matt)
Good car you will get at least £1700 profit on this classy car
Kevin😊
You mention convertibles not being used but my experience has been that garages don’t grease them on the services.
Hi Matt, the car looks great you will get you money you want for it ,someone will get a fantastic car for the money. Cheers Phil from Newark
Why not fix the AC, repaint the bonnet and chuck it on raffle shack? I'd buy a ticket or two :)
Bro it drivers very well. Very comfortable, not noisy and massive feeling > not usual for a convertible
I thought I recognized the area he was driving through - Romiley Stockport where we used to have the restaurant business in the shopping precinct up until 1999 after around 20 years of trading. I worked there in the part owned family business from 1987 to 1998.
What was the name of it?
That would be a cracking weekend car for someone.
The 06 tyre was probably the original spare. Same age as the car.
What a great lump of car for a little outlay. I’m working out how to justify these as a ‘family car.’
Great looker. Hope my BMW 4 series (G23) looks that good at that age.
The Dunlop on the front would be the original spare.
Hey Matt. Love your work 👍
That era of Audi interior is phenomenal
You can’t drop the roof when it’s raining and all misted up. Your buyer will get the bill of fixing the aircon.
That auto is a trip ironic box the best one to have my son was a wolkswagon van tech..master said don't need to change oil Passat eat 1.8 turbo but he did.. me in the cab... son on the computer done.. test drive..a lot faster t /tronic the best vag made !!!!!
When ECON is allways ON in VAG Group cars and can't be shut off it means it has none or need refill on the cooling for the climate
These are the exact opposite of "great" cars. It looks nice and probably drives nice, but that's where it ends. Maintenance nightmares.
@@OMGWTFLOLSMHhe just said he had it for 16 years. Surely it can’t be that bad?
Hey man, im thinking of buying a used audi cabrio with a milage of around 200k km - 250k km. Theyre going for around 2 3k euros. Think its a good idea? And how often does the roof break?
Turn the econ off on the heater control panel and the air con maybe ok
Audi spare parts are extremely expensive, even here in Germany
