I was told the "yellow things" all around my new property are bad and give people allergies. You have no idea how excited I was to see this video and realize that those yellow things are actually an abundance of golden rod in my own back yard. Thank you!!

Sounds like you have an opportunity of teaching others the truth about these wonderful “weeds”. ❤ My mother in law swears she’s allergic to goldenrod. I’m thinking it may very well be the ragweed instead.

You brought up a great memory when you mentioned you used goldenrod as part of a table arrangement. Before dinner, my grandma used to take us out into the wilderness and pick plants that we wanted on our dinner table. We would take them to the garage and spray paint them gold and silver and let them dry. Then she would arrange it all to be on display for all the dinner guests. Us grandchildren were so proud at dinner 🥰

Constructive criticism, no disrespect; lose the background noise.
The subject & your narration of it is great! The addition of distracting, monotonous & annoying music detracts from the great work you are doing❤❤❤

I took a young family man to a town close by to get help paying for his electric bill. He has three little girls and a son just over 1yo. On the way back I looked closer at a patch of yellow flowers; up close I realized they were goldenrod. This patch was atleast 30' by 60'. I cut enough to fill two jars with tops. I stripped the leaves from the short stems and saved a few tops; I have them in a mess nylon bag drying in my house. I gave the bugs enough time to escape before I poured the juice to the tops and leaves. That was a rewarding trip. I also collected the fluffy seed pods from the plants that were mature next to the pond in the same area. I will plant them some place else. I think I saw Yarrow earlier close to this place. I will check around in the Spring. MK

I love it. A list of things I've done with golden rod. Tea out of the flowers, tincture with the leaves, oxymel, makes a good drink, infused honey, I've made a vinager, oils, and saves. This herb is beautiful. Were I'm at it's just now starting to bloom it's also very invasive were I'm at. And here in a few weeks I plan on foraging at least enough to get my family though the winter and next summer.

Thank you so much for covering this herb. Our dog seeks out Goldenrod specifically daily and eats the green leaves. We are now trying to find seeds to grow it in my garden for our dog and for beneficial insects. I will ask my vet if I can give our dog a tincture of Goldenrod in the winter and spring.
I was curious if you know anything about edible plants absorbing chemicals from near by plants that are not edible that [ some] might have liver failure properties to them? I recently heard about Rooibos tea and a plant that grows often near the tea that causes liver failure. That the rooibos tea plant can and been shown to absorb the liver fail chemicals. It might be all false info but im very interested. I've stopped drinking my Rooibos tea bc of it. I heard ppl on youtube say that soe ppl were hospitalized for liver failure that thankfully cleared up over time of the ppl not consuming the tea grown next to the liver toxic

Hello Amy, I hope you are well. I have a question. Today I opened my GoldenRod tincture from last fall. Last September I filled it absolutely to the rim, using fresh plant material and 100% grain alcohol diluted with distilled water for a 1:1 ratio, to match a 100 proof alcohol, like a vodka. Nowhere is there any sign of mold, however I detect a slight vinegar, or fermented odor. I can't tell if it's just the Goldenrod, or if it fermented ever-so-slightly? What are your thougts, please? Maybe this is normal? Idk I'm so new at this. Thank you for the videos. You explain everything clearly and at a pace I can follow. Your Grandparent's farm looks dreamy. Kind regards, Lynn

I've been watching different herbalists making tinctures. Some say don't use dried plant matter for tinctures. You talk about being able to use dried....why is there a little debate on this matter if you don't mind me asking. Thank you for putting out these videos. Hugs.

Some herbs (like lemon balm) are much more potent when tinctured fresh, just do a bit of research on the particular herb your going to extract from and see if the drying process lessens it's potency. You can also experiment with fresh vs dried and see what method works best for you. If all you have access to is dried herb that's fine, just use what you have 😊

Can I make my tincture using fresh goldenrod or should I dry it out first? Also on average how long does it take to dry? Thank you!!

Little late to the game but I just made my dried 1:5 tincure and it seems super dry. The flowers really poofed up while drying. Do I need more alcohol or will it be fine? I shook it as much as possible.

Wonderful video! Love your presentation and love goldenrod. Made my first tincture and am waiting for it to stew. Do you have recommendation for how to use the tincture?

I take 30 drops as needed but another person said take a dropper full every 2 weeks for maintenance and a half a teaspoon twice a day for illness

My Question is (new to this) do your rinse the goldenrod first, I picked some and its has a lot of bugs on them I don't want that in my tincture so how you wash, every video I've watch shows nothing on how to wash it first

You don’t need to rinse it first. Just dry it and use it.

When is goldenrod past its' prime for harvesting? I dried some and left it hanging for about a month and some of the flowers look puffy, almost like dandelion. Is it still useful medicinally? I'm wondering if I foraged to late.

I made a goldenrod tincture in the same manner I did my mullein and lemongrass and wild lettuce. The goldenrod smells not very good and really strong. Is that normal. My husband couldn't use it. I also made a salve out of it and it is wonderful. Does goldenrod tincture normally smell really strong?

It does have a very strong pine like smell.

@@TheFewellHomestead ok thank you, maybe it's normal then. My husband said it tasted awful and it smells strong whereas the mullein tincture smells and taste good according to my husband.
