I was a beekeeper for many years. Honeybees make goldenrod honey. It's very hard to find a beekeeper that can extract goldenrod honey from the hives, especially if other wild flowers are in the area. If someone is a beekeeper and wants more quantity of goldenrod honey, place your hives at the edge of fields with goldenrod.
I'm interested in the soap! Even though this content isn't gardening but it's an extension of it. I love getting ideas on what to do with herbs, flowers and veggies from our harvest.
To keep flower/plant parts from flying everywhere while cutting,find shallow box @least 10” square by 2”~4” deep, (line w/parchment paper, if preferred), and cut inside box. Roll up or fold parchment paper. Place jar/container inside box, using lg,open funnel to help guide material into jar, from parchment paper roll.
I just line my sink with paper towel and place my Mason jar in the sink and strip the stalks into the jar. Pick up the towels and funnel the shake into the jar. Easy peasy.
It tastes really good as a hot tea. Honey to sweeten with dried leaves and flowers. Boil water put in leaves turn off water let steep 15-20 minutes then remove the plant material. I was pleasantly surprised
I make soap, lotions, body butters and tinctures.. always up for a new recipe, one of my favorite infused soaps and lotions is jewelweed for poison oak and bug bites.
Goldenrod & oil, I'll use to make soaps, lotions, and salves. Goldenrod & honey will be used in tea or on toast to help with different ailments. Specifically goldenrod hot toddy for colds.
Would just taking the flowers and leaves from the GR plant stake make it easier down the line ??? This way you leave the stake and take the best parts flowers and leaves. ONE more thing, would you trust GR that grows 30 feet from a highway four lanes ???? Thanks "SHAKE SHAKE SHAKE", "SHAKE SHAKE SHAKE". Yes. Don't fear the/your environment . If it was that bad, we'd all die prematurely. Most toxins adverse effects cumulative, meaning tears of toxins accumulation. To just stop doesn't rid one of years of accumulation. Exercise, sunlight, eat anything and everything within reason, rest. Meat, meat, meat.

Why use fresh goldenrod in honey and not dried? Is it not prone to the mold too or does fresh plant distill better?
