    Holy crap talk about perfect timing with this video! My Revo inshore finally kicked the bucket and I had some bearings in there I wanted to take out and put into my promax. I scoured the internet and everyone I saw do this had that special tool. Thanks Debo now I feel comfortable doing this myself without the spool bearing tool thingy. Many many thanks my brother!

      Cato Hostilius sure man. But I beg you be VERY CAREFUL! Don't scratch the spool...masking tape it up. Be VERY gentle with that pin. Or if you have a reel shop near you, just run it to them, I sure it would only cost a few bucks.

    Informative video as always and I agree with your view on vendors. I’ve been fishing for over 48yrs but just got into bait casters so this info is helpful and to see a field test would be very helpful.
    Thanks again for your time and knowledge Debo.

    Just installed spool speed bearings on my kast King demon, works great.i
    I also installed the bearing shields on the bearings. I used light oil for lubricating watch jewels.

  • @theawkwardoutdoorsman8329

    I actually found that you can take the main three bearings out, remove the shields, degreased them and apply a (tiny) drop of oil, and they spin about 100 times better and are WAY smoother. basically it turns the stock shielded bearings into open bearings. Makes the reel WAY smoother and faster. Great Video!

    I ended up sending off to China for FULL ceramic bearings at about the same cost. I was so impressed with the speed and performance increase that I upgraded all my baitcaster reels (except the very newest additions...lack of time) and have compensated the breaks settings for the newest slipperyness. WOW!
    If you can wait and be patient, Aliexpress.com then look up Rain and Dew (the company) and then search for your bearings sizes. A hint or two 1) know your bearings sizes before trying to order and 2) look for search returns that have multiple numbers of the same size bearings as that will bring the cost per bearing down...very helpful when you have multiple baitcaster reels you can upgrade. Also please tell them I sent you. I don't get anything from the mention, just want them to know I refer them...great service and product.
    P.S. DO NOT oil the ceramic bearings as they are so slippery that any oil actually SLOWS the bearings by slight friction. Not kidding. There is ceramic oil one can use but totally not needed.

    Great vid as always Debo. Tempted to pick up the Speed Demon Pro rod. Love the Winn grip on my Lew's Mach Crush combo, which honestly that rod would match perfectly, but picking it up for a baitcast combo I'm putting together for my dad. Up next for me is the Lew's ProTi I think, all aluminum and the weight should be great for some of the bigger predators I go for.

      William Ouimet hey man. I definitely will be doing that. I plan on filming that this weekend. Why do you think there is something fishy?...they are in the fishing business 🤣 Judging from the spin speed of the spool I would guess it will. I plan on doing regular stock bearings vs de-greased bearings vs spool speed. I'm interested to see how different they all perform.

    So does the spoilspeed baring not fit in the middle part. How do u degrease a bearing

  • @KyllAllF2P
    @KyllAllF2P 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    1. Bearings need lubrication. Metal on metal causes more wear, that is why its quieter with oil, the noise is it eating away at itself.
    2. Bearings have a bed in period as the internals settle into place, and spread the oil throughout the bearing. This is the reason high horsepower cars have a period when they are new where you are not supposed to push the car to its max, so the engine can build up a layer of oil on all its parts. So you need to go use it for a day to bed in the bearings, then test it.
    Old video I know, but there are so many of these out.

    Recently, I purchased a new Shimano spin cast reel (a dealer was going out of business and I got one of Shimano's best reels for only $40.00), anyway I digress. Inside the package the reel came in was a small plastic envelop which contained 4 adjustment washers. The washers are for adjusting the different "winding shapes" of your spool. I had never encountered this before, so I contacted Shimano. Unfortunately, the guy I got had no idea what they were for either, and their webpage was down for upgrading. Therefore, I learned nothing about what these washers actually do, how to install them etc. etc. etc. So, could you do a video on that please. I am sure others are ignorant of these winding shape adjustment washers and would like to know how to use them and what they actually do. Again - a great video. Thanks for your informative videos. P.S. I am now subscribed to your channel, and I highly recommend it to others.

    • @DEBOSFishing
      @DEBOSFishing  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michael R. Foreman thanks for all the support #newfeeshinfriend Yes, you're referring to spool washers. They are to alter how the line winds on your spool. You can add them so the line winds more toward the bottom, or take washers away if you need lin ti wind toward the top. It can happen as reels get old or if you use a drastically different line diameter. If your line went on the spool evenly, you won't need them! Hope this helps man!

    The difference is pretty staggering in terms of how fast and how long the spool spins, but doesn't that make it more difficult to control in terms of backlashes? I mean that's the purpose of all of the different types of braking systems out there - magnetic and centrifugal. They prevent the spool from spinning so fast that the line unwinds before it gets out the line guide. I guess the only technique I could think this would be an advantage for is shorter distance casting of small/light baits. I'm interested in seeing how this works out. Great video as usual D.

    • @DEBOSFishing
      @DEBOSFishing  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mike Walsh initially people would think yes. If you left your reel set as is and whipped a hard cast, good chance it will backlash. However, the spool should spin more freely with less start up inertia. So I would think you should be able to cast lighter and achieve the same or better results. Usually people cast really hard because they have their brakes way up. Any sort of inertia loss to the lure will cause the backlash. However, I run my spool very loose and use a LOT of thumb. I think that's the biggest issue. But...I'll do some testing and we'll all learn together 😂

    • @NDDryfly
      @NDDryfly 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      DEBO'S Fishing agreed. I set up all of the baitcasters that I use to skip docks with almost no brakes and loose spool tension and then thumb it to feather the cast.

    • @DEBOSFishing
      @DEBOSFishing  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mike Walsh money! We're on the same page then! I'll have to nerd out and get a casting course set up 😂

    • @NDDryfly
      @NDDryfly 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      DEBO'S Fishing yup. I just didn’t want folks new to baitcasters to think they should back off all the devices that “manage” spool speed to get the spool to spin super fast. That would be no bueno as our friend David might say. These instructional videos are awesome. Keep me coming.

    • @DEBOSFishing
      @DEBOSFishing  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nicholas Wesley the owner was a great guy. I'm interested to see how they change the reel. The Speed Demon already bombs lures and doesn't need replacing, however, wondering if it will make casting weightless lures easier?

    • @nicholaswesley7303
      @nicholaswesley7303 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      DEBO'S Fishing that is something I was thinking as well. I’d like to try them on my stealth and maybe a Lews reel

    • @DEBOSFishing
      @DEBOSFishing  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nicholas Wesley the stealth would only allow the spool bearing. The sideplate bearing won't come out because of the way the brakes are set up. He has kits for all kinds of different reels.

    • @DEBOSFishing
      @DEBOSFishing  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Golden eye211 5x11x4 for the sideplate bearing on the Speed Demon. I think he is now carrying the 5x10x4 which will go on the spool. But just call or message them first and they will take care of you and get you the EXACT size you need.

  • @rawrfishing
    @rawrfishing 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    hey what were the results? i just upgraded my Spartacus with Spool hi-speed, certainly spins faster but not super fast like your speed demon, I was thinking maybe because the Speed demon reels up faster than the Spartacus, so maybe that is why it doesn't last as long? O_o

    • @DEBOSFishing
      @DEBOSFishing  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      raWr Fishing I tried my Spartacus and it doesn't go as long. I'm hoping to film those casting tests tomorrow! Thanks for watching man!

    • @rawrfishing
      @rawrfishing 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      booo, it's the reel i supposed. Since the bearings were stainless steel, should have just taken them apart, removed stock grease and lightly oiled it and called it a day LOL there goes 30 something dollars!

    • @DEBOSFishing
      @DEBOSFishing  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      raWr Fishing well, they may still cast farther? Did you replace the bearing in the handle and in the spool tension knob?

    • @rawrfishing
      @rawrfishing 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes, i bought the 30 dollar kit from Spool-Speed and replaced all 3. Certainly cast further but not as much as my other reel (not saying it's name lol) with the boca bearing upgrade. Now the bearings between the two should be the same since they are rated ABEC7s, so it's likely a limitation of the reel itself as noted on my video.

    1 piece of advice, the audio normalization needs a bit of work I think. At the beginning of the vid had to turn down the volume cause it was a tad too loud, and then after had to turn the volume back up cause you became whisper quiet. Other than that, really like your vids!

    • @DEBOSFishing

      It helps cast lures with less effort. Smoothness I have found come more from overall care of the reel and proper lubrication.

    So what happens with time? After you drop your reel in the water or with regular use where water in the line/spool seeps in? Will they corrode since they aren’t shielded?

    • @bassnazi4713
      @bassnazi4713 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      He will respond but the main problems you would run into by taking the shields off bearings is more maintenance. The oil will not stay put as much, which isn't as big a deal with ceramics, but it's usually something you don't want to do if you never maintenance your reels. That said it can help with lower resistance which is another main reason many run ceramics so they can run them dry.

    • @DEBOSFishing
      @DEBOSFishing  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bass Nazi yep. Run them dry. You can clean them with CRC Brakleen in the red can. The only way water would be an issue is if it sat for a long time without being used or dried. If you dunk it, just open it and let it dry in the sun. You'll be good to go.

    • @Texan1048
      @Texan1048 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @DEBOSFishing
      @DEBOSFishing  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dennis Harrison yea, that's pretty normal. The bearings are good in the reels. They are just greased, like all steel strandard bearings, to reduce noise and wear. Even with greased bearings in the plus I was casting as far as a Revo STX the other day and the STX is a great reel. Going to be interesting to see what the ceramics do!
