- 2024 dream desk and room upgrades! With 2024 now underway I felt it was time to create a new video going over some important changes I've made to my latest dream desk setup along with some additions to the room in general. With my new hobby of 3D printing, a new gaming pc upgrade, and a lot of peripherals, there is a lot of new goodies to check out.
Everything in this space has been designed around working, gaming, content creation, and home all while being practical and easy to use. From my unique PC and MacBook Pro setup to the desk itself and the switches used to mix peripherals between both systems. The Ikea Besta unit is a brand new upgrade which has become the home for my 3d printing activities, while also doubling up as additional storage. There is a lot more to be shown, so sit back, grab a drink and enjoy this longer than usual video.

Ive seen hundreds of setup videos over the years and this one just hits different for me its like looking at my dream setup of the future. The black and brown contrast is amazing the wood makes it feel cozy. Its just perfect thanks so much for sharing it with us and inspiring me to do one like this.
Thank you! I’d love to see what you come up with
It takes a lot of work and talent to get such a small space so full of stuff but still looking very clean and organized. Well done. You've given me some ideas I'll be using later.
Thank you! And it’s probably set to change again in the next few months 😅
One of the best aesthetic setup i have ever seen
Good luck for ur future
And
Great wishes for doing better day by day❤❤
Always fun checking out your setup! Adding a few bits to my shopping list for the year 😂
Haha! What caught your eye this time?
Keep it up, very practical. Great Space Optimization and Prioritization.
This is a great setup that actually gave me some ideas for my own. Every time someone says "small space" its just a full bedroom dedicated as their office. Its great to see someone else who has their office in their bedroom and are trying to make it work. Keep it up!
Thanks Keith! I try to keep it ‘real’ on this channel as I don’t want people to think stuff I put out is genuine or untrustworthy 😅. I’ve got more ideas for the space and hopefully a few big changes in the next few months
Lovely place! Definitely an inspiration for future update of my home set up. Great vid!
£20 for a Herman miller aeron is one heck of a deal
And I purchased three others for £50 each at an office closure. Sold them for a profit 👍
u sure they are not replicas ?@@ChrisWilmshurst
Very cozy living space!!!
amazing desk setup! Great video!
Such a great space. Love it.
Amazing well thought-out small space!
Thank you! It’s always evolving!
Loving your desk setup!
Thanks for stopping by Dom and for the kind words!
Nice upgrades Chris. Look forward to seeing future changes.
Thank you mate!
Very nice set up! Hope to also get a standing desk for my Ikea worktop, good to see it works well!
Thanks! I’d highly recommend the Flexispot with the Ikea worktop.. I tried previously with a cheaper brand on Amazon and it wobbled like crazy.
LOVE YOUR SETUP!!! AWESOME. !!!
Appreciate it. It’ll be changing soon so stay tuned for a new video 👀
Nice setup, thanks to share
Thanks for watching!
super clean man!
Thank you! Appreciate you taking the time to check it out!
It looks cozy 👍
It certainly is!
enjoy it man ... The pc case is so cool it match the IKEA cabinet...the wood colour in the pc case slightly lighter but u can fix it with some varnish if u want 😁😁 @@ChrisWilmshurst
Very nice office, good job.
Thank you!
Love it 😍
❤ great style
And you’ve got great taste by watching the video!!
Hello, Congratulations Cool 👍👏👏👏👏
With the noise of your speakers it's the soundcard. If you mean that it's a con that they are quieter with the macbook, then get an audio interface. Maybe the macs output isn't providing enough juice without one. If you mean louder interference noise, then it may be that they aren't magnetically shielded and a gaming PC can cause interface noise, especially when stressing or utilising the GPU when gaming.
It’s related to volume, the speakers are usb so that may explain the lack of volume. Which is ironic as the Mac is touted as being able to support high impedance headphones, but cannot power speakers very well!
‘Valcro’? Unbelievable setup btw
Excellent
Thanks Nixon!
Upgraded my PC from Define R6 to the North last year too and that air vent mod looks quite neat. Not exactly necessary for me since I got the vertical mount with the mesh panel + fans on the side but I've been looking for an excuse to try out 3D printing =)
I think gains are minimal; but it’s always fun to try things out!
This is an awesome use of space! Can i ask what the dimensions of your room are? I have a similar sized room, i think, and ive been trying to think of ideas of how to utilize the space as best as i can
Hey, thanks. I believe the width is 240cm and the whole length is about 400cm off the top of my head, but I will double check tomorrow!
Great setup. One weird hing I focus on is, Brits will say "if I'm honest" and Amricans will say "if I'm beinghonest." Also, as a former ESL teacher who taught with both American and British textbooks in Japan, Brits say "got" a lot more than Americans. (e.g. I've got X instead of I have X.)
This is an interesting comment, but actually really helpful. A large majority of my audience is US based, so it’ll be good to tailor my content more towards them.
As an American, I hear "to be honest" far more than I hear "If I'm being honest".
II came here because I was wondering what is the wallpaper you use (the diamond pattern). so nice! But your set up is nice. I have the same color theme going - walnut and black.
I think it’s from Homebase, dunelm, or b&q here in the uk! It was on the walls when I got here, but I cannot redecorate unfortunately!
Great setup! Im curious how you switch between your Mac and pc with the same peripherals. Also curious how your cabling your desktop that far away from your desk.
I use Bluetooth for my keyboard on Mac and usb for pc, I only need to switch the setting under the caps lock when switching, I’m also using a 5m display port cable from the pc to the monitor and the Mac is hooked up to the monitor through the thunderbolt dock.
Can you advise what the coiled cable is just in front of your keyboard? Usb-C ? Looks very tight and organized.
That’s an epomaker coiled cable cable
Thank you for the video @ChrisWilmshurst , i have a question. Do you think the 63cm of depth in the desk is enough or not? When you are using the monitor do you feel like you should be a little further away or is it perfect?
Thanks Edgar, I wouldn’t say it’s perfect, but I’m
Arms distance away from the monitor at all times which is comfortable. If my room was wider I would most likely go for a slightly wider desk, but for the past few years this has been fine.
so do you just run a super long display port cable from the shelf where your tower is all the way over to the monitor?
I do yes. Theees a 5m cable that run down and answer the shelf and up the leg of the desk. Then for my Mac there is a usb c to hdmi cable coming from my thunderbolt dock!
Hello Chris, very good video, everything looks very organized and nice, I would like to ask you how the Logiteh headphones sound when listening to music, is the cable on the outside of these ugly?hi from Medellin Colombia
Hey! Thanks for tuning in, leaving a comment and being nice. The headphones are not the best when it comes to music, it does focus on bass a bit as it’s more of a gaming headset. You can tweak this in the Logitech software and set up custom profiles, but I rarely listen to music on my pc unless it’s through a video/speakers.
The cable itself is just a plain old black cable with a microphone mute switch and a volume control. Very simple and easily stored (mine is tied up under my desk when not in use.
@@ChrisWilmshurst Thank you very much for responding, and I congratulate you on your setup, it is very sober or pleasant, mine is something simple but in the future I will make one similar to yours.
Regarding the headphones, which do you recommend to listen to music and play games from time to time?
How do you find the Karlby? I also have the Flexispot which came with a desk top. I found it a nicer experience having 80cm depth than the 60cm depth of the Karlby myself. (I had one previously on two ikea drawers)
I’ve been doing fine with it, but if I had a wider room I would 100% consider something with a bit more depth.
Does you MX Master 3 not bug out when used on top of the Power Play pad? I have both and I, as well as many others, experience jumping cursor when using the MX on top of it. Or do you plug out the pad first when running with the MX?
I’ve only ever experienced a few jumping issues when my pc is turned on, but if it’s is off it’s smooth.
@@ChrisWilmshurst Good to know. Thanks! Also, I saw you mentioned a USB-switch. I gather that you are not relying on any KVM as such, but rather dual mouse, the USB-switch and then I guess you change input source on your monitor when you want to switch between the two systems?
I have the same problem with the screen flickering. Have you tried replacing the monitor under warranty?
Try setting aspect ratio to auto, turn off low power mode and any energy saving stuff… I also turned off fastest response I think it was.
Do you have a link for the Ikea fish bowl light?
I forgot to add that one! Here’s a link to the uk listing, if you’re not in the UK it is the fado lamp www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/fado-table-lamp-grey-90356307/#content
Loved your setup. Can you please tell me how you have that warm white colour on your Philips Hue??
If you’re referring to the bulb on the shelf it’s a filament style bulb, so it is always warm white.
@@ChrisWilmshurst No, I meant on Philips hue led strip. It has some kind of warm white or kind of orange color in your thumbnail for this video.
@shashankbajaj008 you can change the colours in the app to warm/cool and any colour combo you like
Great video. Assuming you used the T/S 4 to give you a single cable connection to your MAC, which port on the dock did you use to connect to the KVM switch?
Correct, except my pc has a 5m display port cable to the monitor and a usb hub mounted under the desk using usb a extention cables. The switch is attached to this hub and the caldigit ts4, no actual kvm though, but I may invest in the future
@@ChrisWilmshurstwhat thunderbolt cable are you using ? The dock seems really far to the Mac. Don’t thunderbolt cables come max 2 meters?
Apple sells a 3m thunderbolt cable. That's the one I use :) @@drinksomewhisky
Super nice desktop/wallpaper. Whereabouts Can this be found?
It’s from the dynamic wallpaper app available on the Mac App Store!
Hi, what is the length and depth of this counter top? I clicked the link you gave it show like 186cm and 65cm. Is it really? on the video it seems smaller. Just wondering because i want to find something similar too.
By the way nice setup!
Hey, I cut my counter top down from 186 to 160cm
Love the desk setup! How big is your room if you don't mind me asking?
I can’t remember off the top of my head but it’s about 2.4m x 4.4m
@@ChrisWilmshurst Appreciate it!
What are your little headphones and the red knife on?
That’s a deltahub reo vanity tray (link is in the description). It’s a bit expensive if I’m honest but very good quality
So I have the same countertop from Ikea and the Grovemade deskshelf. It bothers me as they're different colors. Did you do anything to yours or did you just get over it? Other than that, love the setup!
I left it as it was, in certain lighting situations it’s barely noticeable but your counter will fade over time so give it time :)
Are you using an external sound card to connect your speakers to your computer? That could be why you're experiencing volume drops when connecting them to your Mac. I've been using a Komplete Audio 6 sound card for the better part of 7 years as I've been using monitor speakers + subwoofer (Yamaha HS8's + Yamaha sub) and have experienced no issues with volume across my MacBook Pro and my gaming PC.
I’m connected directly to both. Via the usb switch
Could be worth trying a sound card out if the volume issues are bothering you, they tend to provide better quality sound output too rather than relying on the inbuilt DAC in your pc/MacBook. Awesome setup btw, going to take some inspiration from your setup as I'm in the middle of upgrading my own!@@ChrisWilmshurst
What keycap set are you using on your keyboard?
The default ones which came with the keyboard
hello buddy i hope you reply to me ,i saw a 3d printer without enclosure in your room .Do you have any hepa+Carbon filter for that?or you dont?because 3d printer even pla release vocs which can cause serious health issues in long run .
I do, it’s mentioned in the video :)
a usb switch! how did I not know about this!
They come in handy!
Killer setup for a small space. Quick question….i didnt see a KVM switch. Are you just manually switching each peripheral individually?
So I have a 5m display port and usb extension cable going from the PC to the desk. Theres a USB hub plugged into the extension cord which my keyboard/mousepad/ USB switch and headset are connected to.
Then I have a single 3m thunderbolt 4 cable going from my Mac to the cal digit ts4 which also has the USB switch plugged into. So speakers will switch at the press of a button and for keyboard/mouse, the gaming mouse is always connected to the mousepad, the mx master 3s is always connected to Mac, and I flick a switch on my keyboard to go into wired mode for when using with my PC.
@@ChrisWilmshurst How do you quickly switch the monitor input between both the PC and Mac? Going through the monitor input menus or another method?
@mulasien I push down on the monitor dial and it gives me the selection for inputs. Super quick!
Does that purifier really helps with dust?
It really does! It does not eliminate it entirely, but I am notified to clean the filter every 6 to 8 weeks and it is absolutely caked in dust
How does this monitor compare to the 27gr95qe? I play only on console but would like a better setup
I personally wouldn’t recommend this monitor. It flickers like crazy!
Do you have a link for the headset?
Hey, I do yes, sorry for the late reply!
geni.us/nEdFTh I have generation one (wired), but they do offer a wireless version (gen 2)
@@ChrisWilmshurst thanks!
What microphone did you use to record this video?
I’m using a seinheisser xlr microphone
Doesn't the TS 4 dock lock you in 60hz even though your monitor is 144hz?
It does for my Mac yes, but for my pc I have a 5m display port cable running to the desk
does the monitor wobble when in standing position ? Some of these stand desks are dreadful
Only if you shake the desk, but when typing like normal and moving your mouse it’s pretty solid.
awesome, thanks for the reply and the video@@ChrisWilmshurst
How you connect the PC to your monitor ? its to far )
A 5 meter display port cable!
au bhai bhalla?
Huh?
how do you switch between pc and mac ?? please help
I change the input on my monitor and flick the switch on my keyboard.
You checked your A1 yet?
?
@2:09 is that Tana?
I’m confused?
£20 for a HM chair!? Mine was $800AUD second hand haha.
I got really lucky on Facebook marketplace. 😅
5:50 Oh please... That S**T doesn't matter to us when we use our keyboard way back then...
Calm down flower. Just because ‘back in your day’ people didn’t have an interest in it, doesn’t mean people don’t today. The mechanical keyboard market is more popular than your basic membrane keyboard and a lot of people want to know about the sound and typing experience, so I’m going to include them, rather than exclude them because of some grumpy person who can’t be bothered to hit the right arrow key on their keyboard a few times to skip the sound test.
£60,000? Arson here I come 😂
how does your apple watch do that? my watch congratulates me for standing for 6 hours when ive been sitting for 8 lol its so inaccurate
Are you wearing it on the opposite wrist that you set it up on? That’s how it messes up
@@ChrisWilmshurst nah it’s setup for a lefty properly
@EdwinFairchild haha, I haven’t a clue then. Maybe my resting hear rate is lower than yours 😅
@@ChrisWilmshurst lmao damn now thats worry some for me haha
Why no UPS? Better insurance than the power strip
No need for one, if power goes out it’s not the end of the world. I’m not a streamer so I don’t need a 100% backup power as I usually work on my Mac which is on battery half the time
@@ChrisWilmshurst I just like being able to shut down properly. Suddenly losing power isn’t something I want to put my 4090 through
@lysias55 haha, I can understand that. Luckily my pc is only on when I’m gaming! I’ve not had a single power cut in two years, so I’m hoping it stays that way
For monitor's screen flicker, try disabling power saving mode. :)
Thanks for the suggestion, but I’ve already tried that 🥲
Ah sad (
It worked for me though...

Check Ganrti for A a black lamp
Those are some expensive lights 😳
@@ChrisWilmshurst lol they are but they fit your aesthetic so I wanted to recommend them. You could easily find some like them
How do you type on that keyboard? 😂
haha, what do you mean? its so nice to type on!
@@ChrisWilmshurst the blank top buttons 😅. It feels smooth tho.
@@hassanshahid9776OHH!!! haha. I can see what you mean. Luckily the letters are shown on the front face of the keys, so when you look down at it from a sitting/standing position you can see the letters you are typing on.
@@ChrisWilmshurst Yeah it's cool! Great setup Chris! 😄
Yeah I don’t understand the grove made stuff. $100+ for a tray and 300 for a riser shelf
Admittedly, it’s expensive stuff. But it’s all handmade in the USA and definitely not for everyone. I wouldn’t recommend the tray, but the riser is very good quality. Much better than a cheaper/alt brand version I currently use for my tv
There is no way someone will be as lucky to get Herman Miller for 20 pounds.
Well I must be the luckiest guy in the world as I did. I also bought three other aeron classics for £50 each and flipped them for £300 each.
Look on marketplace for ‘office chair’ you’d be amazed at how many people are selling them and do not even know. Most of them are supplied by old jobs. This one was purchased from a retired guy
I will never understand the appeal on the clicking noise on the keyboard. for me the best keyboard is the silent one.
The appeal is not the sound, is the feel. You can customize the sound and the feel of the keyboard, you can even make a silent mechanical keyboard.
Was this an ia generated scripted?
Don’t be silly

Lmao 7.1 surround sound.
Haha yeah it’s not amazing, but it does seem to work somehow.
@@ChrisWilmshurst It's just marketing BS. 7.1 means 7 bed layer speakers and 1 subwoofer. It's just not possible in headphones, nor would it make a difference if it was. They go over both ears in stereo. It's 2.0.
5:55 i hate this sounds. mechanical keyboards are worst.
That’s completely fair, they’re not for everyone.
I fucking hate the sound of keyboards. why does everyone think their clickitty clackitty keyboards sound good? mute that shit
It’s personal preference. Don’t worry about what other people’s like. Let people enjoy things. You can enjoy your silent one
you need a speaker amp it will boost the signal and allow you to have the volume you want and maybe an eq for the fun balencing
Schiit audio is what i use and its really nice while fitting with the smooth mac look and they have audio products at various price points
