    ====================================
    The garden and fish pond is more than just a passion for Thomas, it is his moment of relaxation and tranquility. From his favorite spot in the garden I asked him when he started keeping Koi.
    The garden and pond have been laid out in phases. Thomas has devised a clever way to exclude as many risks as possible. He filters his fish pond with two individual filter lines. No unnecessary luxury with a fish collection like this one.
    Thomas has the luxury of an extra fish pond at his company. There he built his very first pond and received 2 koi as a gift from his mother and gardener. After a short while he found out that his first fish were hiding and not swimming around well. Thomas went to his dealer and wanted to know what he could do about this.
    The fact that Thomas has a real passion for this hobby is evident from the fact that he has already traveled to Japan 30 times. Once there he really enjoys the hospitality, the culture and the koi. But before I want to know more about his experiences in Japan, which breeders he visits, I first want to know the secret of his pond and what he pays attention to when selecting Koi Fish.
    Once a year the world championships take place in Tokyo. Thomas has regularly had fish take part in the competition. And with success, he has already won several awards. It is becoming more and more difficult to win a prize, due to the popularity and rising prices of our koi, the stakes are also increasing for both the hobbyist and breeder.

    Hi Ivo, another amazing video, you are making Tuesday my new favourite day!
    I am very interested to know what these very experienced Koi keepers regard as ‘good’ water quality. Do they have a target Nitrate ppm? PO4? PH? KH?
    Thank again for doing this series, it’s incredible to get the chance to see such amazing Koi and ponds.

    • @garethbaker3429
      @garethbaker3429 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Do you know if he is doing similar amounts of water changes as his friend with the first pond you showed us?

    • @TheKoiPartner
      @TheKoiPartner  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Gareth, well good question. Of course all the Nitrate, PO4, PH and KH need to be within the possible levels. But witt good water I think they also mean good oxygen levels and refresh a lot. You are welcome :) good to have you here as a regular viewer.

      Thanks Ivo, I have always just considered dissolved would be fine if everything else is ok and the water is not overstocked.
      But following your comments, I have reviewed this in a book called Koi Health and Disease by Erik Johnson. He states that levels of 7ppm should be improved with an air stone, 8ppm are desirable, but levels of 11 up to 14ppm are glorious.
      I am a bit shocked by this as I don’t own a test kit for dissolved oxygen, something I will rectify tomorrow!!!
      Thanks so much for pointing me in this direction!!

    Fanatastic video again. Thomas echoed the water, water, water mantra which all good keepers do ... he also mentioned he adds minerals to the pond. Any ideas what he adds? I have no idea how the water quality varies across countries but my guess is markedly ..this is more in the conversation 'what to remove from the water supply before its safe for your koi"... the water company in my catchment area adds chloromine to the water supply instead of chlorine which gasses of quicker. So action is needed to remove...... but sure there are others to filter out
