Fun Fact: Test Audiences hated the “Runaway Slave” gag, but it was an important plot point to the movie, and they didn’t have time to reshoot it, and couldn’t cut it out. So they added the “Django” cameo at the last second as a way to make the joke more classy.

The thing about smiling while taking the picture, back when photography was fairly new, it took I think around half an hour for a picture to actually be taken, it could've been longer I'm not sure, so whoever was getting their picture taken had to stay as still as possible the entire time to not ruin it. So if someone wanted to smile, they'd have to hold it for a long time

    • @wolfwing1

I can imagine getting poked or scraped by a tumbleweed, but dying from having one's throat slashed by one is rather unlikely, outside of a tornado, in which case you've got other problems as well. The main danger of tumbleweeds is that they can help wildfires spread even faster when they're on fire and tumbling about. This is actually a real, documented, and escalating problem in California, in particular.

You'd have to imagine a duel in the real American Old West, because that was actually something only rich, snooty guys did back east and in Europe. There is only *one* actual duel I'm aware of, having had a keen interest in the Old West since childhood, and that took place between Wild Bill Hickok and Davis K. Tutt in Springfield, Missouri (barely out west). They were separated by about 75 yards, and it wasn't exactly a quick-draw duel. Tutt fired first and missed, while Hickok aimed carefully and killed him.
Everything else you've seen of the Old West regarding gun duels in movies and on TV is pure fiction. No one wanted to duel because it was too dangerous. If someone wanted someone else dead, typically they would bushwhack them from behind.

Fun facts about Liam Neeson in this film:
*Liam Neeson agreed to play the role of Clinch on the condition that he do a broad Irish accent.
*Liam Neeson plays an antagonistic outlaw cowboy. In Prick Up Your Ears (2006), Peter Griffin jokes that without his knowledge, his kids will be "as hopeless as Liam Neeson playing an American cowboy."
*When Liam Neeson was asked to play the antagonist he accepted due to a scene in Family Guy where Peter says "Imagine Liam Neeson in a Western! Ha! With that funny accent of his!"

Bread and beans were common staple foods in the Old West, although today this would be considered a rather plain meal by most modern Americans. Actually, many do like beans and bread or tortillas when we eat them, but when we just think about plain bread and beans, somehow it seems lacking. I don't know why this is.

In real life, there were special dueling pistols for rich, snotty people who did that sort of thing (mostly Europeans, but some Americans in the east who had some silly notion of "honor"), but even in movies, out west there are rarely special pistols for this--they just used their sidearms. Now, in the real-life Old West, people generally did not duel, so this topic is moot. If they did, then they'd use their defensive sidearms, most likely, unless they were transplants who brought this idea of "honor" with them and their dueling pistols.

There were no tumbleweeds in the US in 1880. They were accidentally "imported" on freight ships. They blew onto the ships at port of origin and blew off at port of destination in the early 1900s (maybe even later - possibly in the 1920s). They spread fast in the dust bowl years.
