- AS PROMISED! Here's our reaction to Young Royals Season 1!
First of all, we apologize in advance for the language on this episode as the three of us are quite expressive and curse a lot in this - it could not be avoided in some of the scenes as we feel so strongly about it. Also - we truly hope that no one gets offended because of our Heartstopper comparisons, we are comparing because this was recommended to us after we watched Heartstopper. We love both individually, I hope no one takes this badly.
I would like to say that I regret saying this was lighthearted series that needs darkness, I honestly had no idea when that came out of my mouth, hahahaha. Also - Omar Rudberg's voice? Hello? Literal voice of an angel, no contest! Annnnnd, August, just, it's only been Episode 1 and we already know he has a hidden agenda and cannot be trusted with practically ANYTHING! Finally, that initiation scene really grossed us out, lmao, apologies in advance for the insanity that ensued when that came up on our screens.
Jumping on the hype train as we wait for the release of Young Royals Season 2 - join us and rewatch the entire Season 1 in preparation for Season 2! We apologize if we have said anything that's inappropriate - none of us are homophobic, but we're not 100% sure what's proper to say or not, so please let us know in the comments if there's anything we've said wrong so we won't repeat that again. It's a learning process, we'd get there.

Wilhelm, Simon, Felice is about 16, Sara is about 17 and August is about 18.
The actors are just a little bit older, Omar (Simon) is born in 1998, Frida (Sara) is born in 2000, Malte (August) is born in 2000, Nikita (Felice) is born in 2001 and Edvin (Wilhelm) is born 2003. Even if Edvin is the youngest, he probably is the one with the most acting experience, he started at age 5, and has been in several Swedish TV-series.
It's Omar's first acting job, but he's a well known singer in Sweden who was in a boyband (FO&O) in 2013-2017.
Pernilla August, who plays the queen, Wilhelm's mom played Anakin Skywalkers (Darth Vaders) mom in some Star Wars movies.
If you like Young Royals, you should really check out another Scandinavian series, "Skam", if you haven't seen it already.

The way they portrayed their roles made me think they might be in college level (their ages is actually college level here in the Philippines when the 3 of us studied. We enter college at 16-20). But I think technically this age group is considered like highschool / secondary school in Sweden.
I knew the ages of Omar & Edvin but not the rest, thank you so so much for this tidbit! And I would have to say that whilst Edvin has the most acting experience out of the rest of them - Omar can match up quite well with the rest of them. But Edvin definitely top notch acting, I'm so so so proud of him and Omar in this. 💜
SHMI SKYWALKER? OMG. That blows my mind! I'm a massive massive Star Wars fan and this information is insane for me! I knew she looked familiar but my mind couldn't connect the two and two together. THIS IS AWESOME!!!
I've actually tried watching SKAM (there is only one version right? The France one? Or is there another?), but I only saw cuts that were making rounds on FB years back. Even then it gripped me. We might go and watch it after Young Royals season 2!

Yes, they're in what we call "gymnasium" which is quivalent to secondary school/high school. I think it's easier to just say the age, because it gets confusing when different countries have different names for their school levels.
Yes, they're doing a great job acting, all of them. And Malte (August) is amazing at being so annoying! Another fact that you might not know is that Frida (Sara) has Aspergers (High-functioning autism) in real life too.
Yeah, Pernilla August was Shmi Skywalker! Hope _this_ son does't become like Darth Vader in the next seasons... 😄
The original Skam is the Norwegian one! 🇳🇴
Before watching any of the _many_ remakes (from France, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Spain, The Netherlands, The US) the original definitely the one to watch. It's the best, imho. (it's also the most similar to Young Royals, definitely not the same, but since both are Scandinavian, there is a similarity, especially in the "realness", they feel like real teens, rather than 27 year olds pretending to be teens like some of the remakes...). Watch all the seasons of Skam, I think you will really like it (Season 3 is "the LGBTQ+ season" which some reactor just watch, but the whole series is so worth watching, and Season 3 gets even better when you know the characters, and what they've been through!). I also think that would be something that will get you more subscribers, there are a lot of people who love Skam!

I don't think I'll forget that scene for a very long time 😅
I think that we should not compare Heartstopper and Young Royals. But if you must, I think that Heartstopper is comforting, fluffy and warm teenage drama. Yourg Royals is more mature, darker, and it is touching more complex topics,. It's more "visual", every frame, every scene is very important for the plot, all characters are complex, not totally good or totally bad, so it' very real and authentic even being about royalty, yet, everybody can relate....
We're very sorry for comparing the two, this was suggested to us via our Heartstopper reacts and we couldn't avoid the comparison. It is all done not to bring down the other. We love both shows. I hope you understand that when we started this we literally have no idea what to expect, so when we got in it our first reactions were like this. We ofcourse understand it better now we've finished the show and waiting for season 2 - where we promise we will stop comparing it to Heartstopper all together. We are really sorry.

I was just trying to explain that these two series are different and show different problems even though they are both about teenage boys in relationship. But, stealing Wilhelm's own words from the show, "you can have your own opinion" ;-).

re: why hillerska students treat simon like that. afaik in sweden, tuition fees are free even for boarding schools. nagkakatalo lang talaga sa boarding fees (sigtunaskolan (one of the top 3 boarding school irl) annual fees cost 363k krona or kulang kulang 2M) kaya sobrang taas ng tingin nila sa sarili nila.

Wouldn't it be easier if you all speak in English? Then, you do not need to add subtitles and we would watch it without looking at the subtitles.
Actually, I have thought to reinforce that to all our reaction videos, but my niece and cousin are not confident and fluent in English and would 100% just shut up the entire time in fear of speaking with wrong grammar, wrong word, etc. So I thought I'd have them speak freely to get their raw reaction without fear of being wrong. There's only two of us in the family who speaks English daily. I apologize for the inconvenience, we're trying to make it work for all that's why we have subs. I hope you understand 🥺💜
