- 13 courses later and this is the entirety of my first year of college at UChicago - on a scale of stressful to chef's kiss perfection.
I took a variety of classes; some lasted one quarter (music, biology, Star Wars) and others were sequences with varying coursework and professors each quarter (world literature, Spanish, SOSC, writing seminars). And even though some are ranked on the lowest tier, I truly did enjoy all of my classes and I'm so grateful to have had such an amazing first year.

I’m Makayla! I’m nineteen years old, a rising second year at the University of Chicago, and a Creative Writing and (prospective) Global Studies double major.
Some of my favorite pastimes are reading, cooking, writing, violin, ping pong, and studying. I have an older brother, step-siblings, three dogs, and I grew up in Maine.
I’m a 5w4 INTJ and in love with Star Wars, Marvel, Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, Supernatural, and Sherlock, so I can always talk about these all day long!!

I always had so much hope anytime I selected my courses. It can be hit or miss. You never know what you're going to get. I love the retrospective look-back! Chef's kiss 😘 is my favorite!
I totally get you about the Spanish class, I took the same class and it got tough fast... 😂 Plus I tend to do better at more mechanical languages like German so I actually had a harder time with Spanish. Anyway another great video!
I’d love to try learning German!! I spent about a month doing Russian on Duolingo but other than that I haven’t tried any other languages haha!
