Nice tool, I'm on my second one. The variable speed switch went out on my first one. They are sealed units and fairly complicated. Switch kits run 75% of the tool replacement, salvaged the parts for future repair, bought a new tool, gave the old motor (worked fine) to a friend who dabbles in robotics. I've never seen a battery replacement come needing assembly, I buy aftermarket, fully assembled for around $30.00 USD (6.0 Ah). You did a great repair, I'm glad your switch worked, with that cost and the new bearings, purchase price, you'd have the price of a new tool. I'm a home builder/remodel contractor and used mine more than any homeowner or plumber ever would. Your refurbished Hackzall should last you years.
What for? Maybe people enjoy reviving old things. Maybe people enjoy expanding their knowledge of various tools. Maybe people think too much is too readily thrown away. Maybe you can afford to throw away a Milwaukee tool and just buy a new one.
