I use 24g Target ALX 02's, short (34mm) stem and standard #2 flights, they go in slight incline. My old setup was 24g Winmau Tuscans with Vapors and medium Prism stem, go in completely flat
I'd always used medium stems with standard flights until I bought a new set of darts that came with vapour flights. I immediately fell in love with them. They're quite small and do lie flatter which, in effect, opens up the treble bed a bit.
Just getting back into darts after a long while. Bought 3 diff lengths of stems and a pack of std, kite, pear, slim flights to mess about with and then stock up with some from there.
Pears with shorts they lie nice and straight, unless you pull it and it lands downwards. If i go through a bad patch with pears i turn to kites, they give you more stability.
You are by far my favorite INSTRUCTOR( no kidding)..With your lessons, I have managed to really upset my fellow dart buddies.. I started using the V-wings in all my set ups some time ago and to say the least, I consider them a cut above the rest
Having taken up Darts during the first lockdown, I’ve watched many you tube videos trying to pick up some tips. They all have excellent content but I have to say that yours are brilliant, especially the way you explain things aimed at someone like me who’s at beginner to medium level. I will definitely be subscribing to your channel. Thank you 👍🎯
I'm a front gripper and use extra short stems with pear flights but just started trying kite shape, going alright, use 21g darts, great video and now I'm a subscriber
I've been throwing with those Retina Velos flights lately, mostly because I think they look cool, haha. But yeah, they throw almost the same as standard flights for me, which is what I usually throw.
This video came out just in time, testing other flights i use standard, but ordered minis, velox and maestro, with medium stem, do have short so will try both.
Ok tryed all sorts went with slims, played 40avg switched to the maestro's was awesome 70 avg and they seemed to fly so straight for me. Just ordered alot
Great video it’s interesting to get the perspective of a non-professional. I’ve tried the pear and slim, but the angle of entry just wasn’t right, so I’ve gone back to the good old medium prism stem with a standard flight. I’m using a 24g Winmau Paul Nicholson and they are the best set up I’ve ever had. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to your next one. 👍🎯
Excellent video 👍 I currently use Cosmo size 2 stems with the slimmest pear flights (D1) and get a very flat angle on them, sometimes I can barely see where the dart has landed they're pointing directly to my line of sight. I've done the same as you and pissed off a DC picker with one of each of the cheapest sets of flights to make my own test pack, I got exactly the same results. I did use Vapor S for a while but gave up because of too many Robin Hoods. Keep up the good work
Find myself back on one of your videos again! Funny enough a few bits arrived today. My darts were sitting up WAY too much so I got some aluminium stems and pear flights, sitting almost dead level with no change to the grip at all. £1.20 well spent
I’ve had 3 years of no darts. Just started playing last month hit a 180 last week. I’ve got the bug again. Love the vids mate. Definitely going to try some of those flights out.
I throw 30g, 1.5" carbon shaft, standard flights.... they're really nice when ive had a few drinks and get a little heavier handed, i throw pretty hard so the tips on everything from 26-30 are always about 50% inside the board..... i do want to get a lighter set though, in fact i was looking to collect these parts for my kit 24, 26, 28, 30g barrels 1.5, 1.75, 2" carbon shafts, and aluminum spinner shafts Various cool looking standard and maybe slim flights
Im also no pro player, only really just started, but i was invited out for 2 days before i bought a set so the guys would share their sets and one guy had 30g other had 26g and ive found i can throw both sets comfortably depending on how im feeling that day..... and i actually won 2 games today out of 4 with the 30g darts and being my 3rd day, id say thats not too bad
Really enjoyed this video, thanks Bryn. I switched from standard to oversize pear (specifically, the Winmau Beaton) around a month ago, and although the angle of entry isn't particularly "pretty", I seem to be getting better results, so I'm going to stick with them for now. Might get a set of Velos and Red Wing to play around with one day though, now that I've seen your video.
I was super impressed with the Velos. Out of the alternatives to standards, they had the best stability in the air. Size of them though might mean a compromise on being able to group as well 🎯
I use number 6 standards with a short stem, couldn't get on with Pears or Kites, thinking of trying the final 2 flights you used in the video, I do like Harrows flights, enjoyed the video
Appreciated this vid a lot! I'm at an experimental point in my darts and plan to try out the vapor and the mini's (as well as different stems). Also getting some grip as I have a few too many flyers
I use kite's with an extra short stem. I pull the dart straight back to my eye, so longer stems hit my face. My darts go into the board almost flat with just a bit of uptick.
Funny to think that something as simple as throwing a dart out of your hand is unique to all throwers...add the flights and all other external factors its remarkable.
I'm a middle of the road, standard flight, standard stem kind of guy. Tried slims and kites a couple of months back....eeek!😖 Please tell me you have given the winged flights more of a work out since to see if they are as good as they seemed during that test.
I use short stems with kite flights currently, changed from medium stems and standard flights. I find that I’m a little more accurate with my current set up, scoring better and finishing better, but what I am finding since I have changed to kites and short stems is I’m Robin Hooding a hell of a lot more, like at least once every session, whereas I never really did it before, it’s kind of annoying, because I’m destroying stems at a rapid rate 😂
They don't completely eliminate Robin hoods but reduce them drastically and make your stems last 10 times longer. Worth the small £5 investment in one. I thoroughly recommend them
Slims are certainly the ones that will give you the best stability in flight if you're looking for your darts to lie flat... Certainly out of the ones I tested at least 👍🎯
I'm having a hard time finding more Apparently Harrows has discontinued this flight If you know where I can purchase more please let me know Thank You Great Video 👍
Excellent video. I really liked the camera angle showing the entry angle. Would you consider doing a similar video using your usual darts and flights, but with the various lengths of stems?
@@DartsClass I use medium stems and standard Harrows flights currently. I believe I have what you referred to as a "loopy" throw. I'm very curious to see how the stem length affects the dart entry, but only with your usual flights.
So here's my dilemma. Currently I use standard flights on a 23gram dart. I'm on the short side 5'7" so I tend to have to arc my throws up to the higher numbers. I notice a pronounced arc in my throws for the top and middle half of the board and a flatter trajectory for the lower half of the board. I find that the additional arcing adds one more variable to maintaining accuracy. Mind you, I haven't been playing long and have a long way to go before I can play competitively. Do you think a slimmer dart will help me with aiming?
I'm the same height as you and also arc the dart at anything higher than the bullseye. It's natural at anything below your eyeline has less of an arc and more of a direct trajectory, I'm exactly the same so don't worry about that, but if you can try to maintain a consistent throw and allow a bit more arc into the low areas by slightly slowing down the speed of your throw. You're always good enough to play competitively, my advice is to just start doing it. Even if you lose often, you'll improve greatly with any type of match experience 👍🎯
That was really interesting thanks for taking the time to do that! I've tried the Velos flights, I'm sure all they are doing is giving you the equivalent of a longer stem by moving the centre of area back a bit?
Thanks for all this information. I’m a new dart player and i’m desperately looking for tips to improve my accuracy and consistency. I keep changing the flights and can’t find something i like so i will have to try your suggestions.

Does medium stem spinning gyro shaft and ordinary/common shape flights really matters to have a straight path of throwing darts? Is there really such a combination for the 24g pin? Thanks in advance.

Medium stems standard flights for me. My darts sit up I have tried other shape flights but they all sit terribly in the board and fly all over the place
I use the Harrows ice darts with a standard flight. The darts are 23g and sit in the board with the barrel angled downward, so the opposite to how yours lie. I am a beginner but love my darts and hate how they sit in the board. I have managed a few 180s but the flight through the air is wobbly.
@@DartsClass I Do grip at the front. I just found that more comfortable and natural. I will have a go holding the dart further back to test entry etc. Thanks for the reply 😄 Your videos are great, keep up the good content 👍
Holding the front of the barrel with anything other than a short stem might make the dart seem 'wobbly' in flight so it might be worth shortening the stems or a mid grip. The main thing is when you hold the dart before you throw, your grip should be at the point of balance for the darts as a whole. If you test this by slightly loosening your grip you'll see if it see-saws backwards or forwards. 👍🎯
@@DartsClass nope at the very front... it’s very very weird literally every way I hold them it’s the same as well it doesn’t make sense... I do like the way they lie so it’s no problem but very weird... I actaully play to an ok standard Aswell averaging 75-80
Hey! My darts sit in the board with the flight poking out to the left and the point to the right. I use small stems and standard flights. But what I want to know is what am I doing wrong that is making the darts sit in that position in the board??
It's hard to explain without showing you... It will be because on release you are forcing your hand down. Make sure your release of the dart is when you're throwing up, and then you can follow through with the downward motion after. Just sounds like you're releasing late and pushing the dart down 👍🎯
@@DartsClass thanks for the tip. I’ll practice throwing a little earlier and release the dart whilst in the upwards motion then as the dart is released allow the follow through to naturally happen. Thanks mate.
