Thank you for understanding the “and then the funniest thing happened” part!!. I’ve seen a few reactions to this song and everyone was like “why what happened!???” and it drove me insane 😂
The contect of this song is what blows me away and makes me cry from jump. When the scene right before this is I am not well and him crying so hard. It's heartbreaking
I have panic attacks when in public events and the phrase "Are you feeling nervous? Are you having fun? It is almost over. It has just begun" is something I am facing like 2x a week
The songs you've done of his are actually from his most recent Netflix comedy special, which is called INSIDE, since he shot, directed, edited, everything himself over the course of a year in a singular room over the course of the first year of the pandemic.
As good as this project is and trust me any popular art hasn’t affected me so hard ever but the only shame about this project for me will be that the way it hit like a moving truck in the pandemic will not be possible ever. It was like that feelings we had in horrible time was encapsulated so perfectly and in such a raw form which can’t be repeated. I legit laughed and bawled my eyes when iI watched it at the time.
Dave takes 11 seconds to start the video compared to other reactors taking 5 minutes before the reaction even starts. This man knows what the audience wants and is here for!
This song is a journey for the veiwer. You start off thinking its a live concert he is telling the crowd to get up. The background sounds are deliberate to create this effect and his staring into the camera further accentuate it. But then the camera starts to back away and you remember he is alone in the room singing to the camera. There is no live audience. So who is he singing to. Who is he telling to get up. Maybe its the viewing audience. Then he tells the story of his break down. This connects to the Kanye Rant from his previous show in which he sings about two problems. He needs the audience but he hates the audience. He has dealt with his anxiety of hating the audience and is now ready to go back to the adoring crowds. Only.... and then he starts singing again and you start to realize he is alone with the camera. He is not singing to you the viewer. He is singing to himself because without the audience his drive is sapped and his anxiety is returning. He has not dealt with all his problems. He is singing to himself to get up. To keep going. But its just him and the camera. The camera gives no feedback. No applause. There is no connecting to the camera. Its not appeasing his needs. He starts raging at the camera. Its just sitting there dead. So in his despair he grabs it to take on the part of the audience himself. But as he jolts around the room you hear a crazy laugh issue just before the end of the song and he is in despair again.
His final tour was the one called "Make Happy" ... His final performance of that tour is when he went backstage and broke down after the Kayne Rant song ... That's when he started that 5 year break before wanting to come back, but Covid threw him right back inside again.
This special wrecked me it was basically a movie about the horrors and problems everyone faced during COVID from mental health to depersonalization due to quarantine it goes over everything and feels very relatable. Also the special "Inside" could mean to different things depending on your own views "Inside" could be literal like inside our houses during the time of quarantine OR it could be "Inside" our own head with our own thoughts which for some people destroys their mental health and I feel like the special looks at it from both perspectives depending on your own outlook. One of the nice touches in this special is there is a clip where he is just inside his house projecting his old TH-cam videos on the wall and watching them showing the side of being trapped inside his own head with his thoughts.
Love your reactions. Bo has a complex relationship with performing. As others have said, 'Can't handle this (Kanye rant) adds more context. I highly recommend.
I think you should listen to all of "Inside" IN ORDER as much as you can. so much of it is funny. some of it hits REALLY deep, and he times those punches perfectly.
@@saber1epee0 actually it's two things I'm that bit. It's poking fun at reactors and it's showing an anxiety spiral. Watch it again. It's a multi layered bit.
I watched this on Netflix when it first came out during covid. It really was a breath of fresh air during some dark times. It's kind of hard to explain but the timing for a special like this was perfect. It was for me anyway. This song in particular. I had spent the 3 years preceding covid out of work trying to get a handle on my depressions and finally getting around to take real steps and getting therapy sessions going in late January 2020. Then the funniest thing happened.... No more sessions. Just another couple of years being stuck inside with no help and just stewing in the depression.
“It’s almost over, it just begun” Made my heart hurt just thinking about how it relates to mental health. He was almost through it, and then he got tossed right back to the beginning when covid hit
Ok now you really need to listen to his Kanye Rant! It's the last song he performed before he took that 5 year break he mentioned in this one, and he started talking about some of the same things.
The special is just called ‘Inside’ not ‘From Inside’ :) He’s a comedian. A comedian who does comedic (but also poignant) songs. This special isn’t the after effect of Corona, it’s the during effect of Corona.
still the aftereffect of corona. it was _after_ corona shut everything down. I mean, corona is still around; does that mean we _still_ haven't experienced any aftereffects?
( sorry this is gonna be long ) Firstly to start this song won a Grammy for "Best Song Written for Visual Media" Now for the juicy stuff he had a breakout on youtube at a young age making comedic rap songs that gained lots of traction, shortly after he gained all this traction he signed with Comedy Central Records and released 2 comedy music albums before the age of 18, at which point he was the youngest person to have filmed a half hour special "Words Words Words" which just like this special had an album released under the same name. He also had another Special entitled "What." at which point he started to have issues with if this was the right job for him because he was having such severe anxiety. He gave it one last go and filmed one more special entitled "Make Happy" with a very sour feeling throughout where he expressed all the issues he was battling with and as sad as it was he would lean into it saying "stop your whining they just want to hear your song" and the crowd would cheer, nobody saw it for as big of a problem as it was for him. When the show was over he ran off stage and threw up and also had severe tunnel vision so out of fear of his own personal sanity he took some time off which turned out to be about 5 years. hope that helps with a little bit more of his back story, also worth mentioning he has also done some directing and comedy writing as well as a cameo in Watsky's song "Woah Woah Woah".
Dave, I listen to you a lot while I’m at work. Thank you for adding commentary and your true honest opinions to your reactions. The way you analyze and dig down deep into the meaning of the stuff you watch is why you’re one of my favorites
as a music producer that focuses on these slow chillout type of songs i wish, I WISH i could vocodo even slightly as good as bo. like what? it blows me away everysingle time and i am so envious
Glad to see you're deep diving into his music! bo's one of the most creative musicians i know cus everytime i hear a song from him i always go "how does he think of this?" Which is very inspiring for my creative brain haha
I definitely recommend some of his older stuff one of my favorite ones by him is We Think We Know You and Cant Handle This (Kanye Rant) gives you a little insight on why he took a break from stand up
Fuck anxiety dude. We are so wired to thrive off of human connection and socialization. Our lives can truly be enriched by having just a few close friends. But some of us are also wired to be so uncomfortable being around people. Like wtf. I've overcome it myself in certain ways but its always there. And I hate it.
It's so jarring, to go from Welcome to the Internet which is so eerie because of how you can't see his eyes, to this one where it's the opposite. It's eerie because a good chunk of the time you can very clearly see his eyes because they're staring right into your soul.
You probably know this by now but Bo had severe anxiety, and it was so bad at some point that he stopped performing and became agoraphobic, at some point though, he wanted to come back but then COVID happened, so his mental health got worse with the quarantine and stuff, making Inside was probably what kept him alive... He's an amazing comedian/singer , artist in general, but he's also an amazingly strong person for making it through...
He made this during the pandemic in his house. He actually contacted Netflix and asked them if they wanted his new special and they said how everything was shutdown and he said he made it at home and can give them the special to air
Would you consider making a reaction to the All Eyes On Me alt version from The Inside Outtakes? It has a different vibe and would be awesome if you could dissect the musicality and if the message would come across differently from this version because of the delivery? The other awesome songs from the outtakes called Five Years, The Future, and the awesome gem: Chicken. Good day to you sir and I am happy to come across your content. Thank you for the thoughtful reaction to this music. ✌️💕☀️
love your commentary, and watching your first time reactions, just found your channel today. I think it would be really cool if you were to watch and just react to his whole special. INSIDE really tells a cohesive, gripping, incredible story and everything flows together so well.
You should react to the whole special and maybe cut the songs reactions into short videos because the whole special is a experience and after you finish watching it you should see the Inside´s outtakes in Bo´s TH-cam channel
He is nice like kanye. He did make this whole album alone in his home studio. He is good but he took a lot from ye like everyone took from the Beatles. Ye is still underrated somehow
Don't watch all of inside until at least after you do "how the world works" just because you don't need the context of the show to enjoy the song. And I'll love to see that reaction!
If you haven't already and you have a Netflix account, I'd watch the whole special and he has outtakes on TH-cam. Fuck it if you don't have an account I'll lend you mine. It's THAT good. I've watched it so many times
If you have Netflix, all 3 specials are there. If u don't his 1st 2 (I believe) are on his TH-cam channel. You lose some meaning or his growth if you don't watch the specials, there are skits and standup between songs. Someone might've told u already...sorry
Eventually I will get to them all, or untill you guys stop watching it (cause I’ve done all the popular ones). By then I will just watch the rest off camera. But for now I’m enjoying sharing my experiences with you guys. Bo is amazing.
Its funny to hear you say you didnt know he did comedy when all his songs are silly and usually introspective but I know what you mean when you said that. It's how he got his start on TH-cam, he's a comedian. His specials and live shows are all stand up comedy and these songs are a part of his routine.
Gas prices? Always funny when Americans complain about gas prices whole paying half of what the rest of the developed world pays. 😅 Diesel is almost up to 12$ a gallon here again. It's somewhat weird though that it's all about depression and how his world feels like it ended when being shut back inside, and that comment about gas prices really felt a bit jarring. That said, I will again recommend watching the Kanye rant (can't handle this) which is a bit of the back story to this song. And ofc the whole inside special.
I've come across some folks who've claimed that this song is the B side to Bo's Can't Handle This Kanye Rant. It does fit quite nicely imo. I find that this song was a 180 juxtaposition of how he hates the audience's gaze but his work/performance requires the audience being there - but the lockdown has made it so the proverbial audience is the insatiable black void of the camera.
"I didn't even know he did comedy." It's easy to forget the Bo Burnham is a comedian. Helluva artist.
Thank you for understanding the “and then the funniest thing happened” part!!. I’ve seen a few reactions to this song and everyone was like “why what happened!???” and it drove me insane 😂
Yes finaly someone who gets it
Right??? Too many if them pause it right before the punch line and they lose the entire context.
The contect of this song is what blows me away and makes me cry from jump. When the scene right before this is I am not well and him crying so hard. It's heartbreaking
Like it wasn't just 2 or 3 years ago.
I have panic attacks when in public events and the phrase "Are you feeling nervous? Are you having fun? It is almost over. It has just begun" is something I am facing like 2x a week
The “get inside” always gives me chills
Also the "Get the fugg up!"
the part where he says "got it good now get inside" when you think about it hits deep
The songs you've done of his are actually from his most recent Netflix comedy special, which is called INSIDE, since he shot, directed, edited, everything himself over the course of a year in a singular room over the course of the first year of the pandemic.

This summary made me fucking cry dude
I have seen this multiple times, I still get the eerie sensation when the eyes turn direct. "Are you feeling nervous?..."
This song is an incredible interpretation of social anxiety and the panic attacks that come from it.
His final tour was the one called "Make Happy" ... His final performance of that tour is when he went backstage and broke down after the Kayne Rant song ... That's when he started that 5 year break before wanting to come back, but Covid threw him right back inside again.
“We’re going to go where everybody knows everybody” speaks volumes about the quarantines that so many people had to/have to go through 😔
