He's not on stage. This special was filmed in his guestroom during the pandemic, and the crowd sounds he added himself from reactions from his old shows.
"You say the whole world's ending. Honey, it already did." Always gets to me.
Right there with you brother.
We tried. We were trying
He won a Grammy for this.
And still didn’t show up for the ceremony
O rly?
@@johnnybpenasounds like him
Fk a Grammy lol. But yeah which just found out a few weeks back. Which if he didn't bring up the coined terms of anxiety and whatever and Covid or whatever he would not have gotten it...
I know, it's amazing 😊
This whole song was recorded and filmed in his house in lockdown. The crowd isn't real and nor is the laughter track. It's all part of his production. This blew my mind and makes it so so much more impressive.
Anyone who was in lockdown... what'd you create? This man created his own comedy special on his own that Netflix bought for over 3mil. Every song seems like it had a team working on it. It's just crazy coming from the young kid making youtube videos.
@@mctubleI was never in lockdown. I work at a power plant, so as an essential worker I was still out and about every day.
@@PlutozReal same, except I don't work at a fancy power plant. A sheet metal roll forming plant.
It also adds so much to the song. Like, he controls the crowd here and they *still* laugh at the wrong time.
I love how that means that when he starts shouting and swearing he's not abusing the audience because there isn't one. It gives this sense of desperation and loneliness with the anger ultimately only directed at himself.
Hey I’m early! Hi Britt 😄
Edit: “is he on a stage?”
No, he’s just in his room! He added applause and laugh tracks to this to create that feeling though! And his timing on it is perfect - it’s brilliant!
I think this song in particular is greatly benefited from the context of the special its from. And I think experiencing the special as a whole piece itself is very important to contextualize the arc of the songs.
So much
Agreed. Same way context is important, so is maintaining the momentum of the song. These pauses suck all the weight out of it.
@@chand911 Its the cost of doing Reacts, unfortunately. And you have to accept that fact as the reacter and the people watching the reacts.
I think if reactors wanna do this video, it should firstly, not be their intro and should come directly after his Kanye rant. If they had some context, and watched those two as a double feature it'd be pretty good
@@caistigh2062 I'm sure JBP fans would be proud.
This is indeed in his room. The audience sound is added for effect. Makes it even more brilliant.
This song was part of a special he made during the pandemic. Apparently he wrote, performed and produced it all alone. I recommend watching the whole thing.
This whole special was made in his guest house, so the audience sounds were artificially layered in
I know it's already been said but he won a damn Grammy for this song. My interpretation of "we're going to go where everybody knows everybody." is we're all going inside because of the pandemic, and everyone knows everyone on the internet. Also "all eyes on me" to me means people looking for followers or likes or whatever. It's a pretty deep song and I like it but if any song deserved a Grammy it was his Kanye rant. Love seeing your reactions! Keep it up!
pfft New math Deserved one :P
JOKES mate. I had to say it just incase it Flies over somepeoples head.
@@jasonbuckley4118 they all deserve one.
So interesting to hear ur perspective of it, I thought he was talking about the fact that he always gets like deep and introspective in his songs like we all know where he’s going w this song ?😂 ur prolly right tho lol
Dude your reaction to this has been the most satisfying thus far because you actually got what he was trying to convey immediately
I believe he won a Grammy for this song.
And three Emmys.
Which is insane, it's hardly the best on the special.
@@chand911 I think it's because this one has more of a mainstream sound, with obvious meaning too.
@@jackplume9045 surprising since he went in on the elites on the special
I love your reactions to Bo because you don’t pretend to understand everything he says. Very authentic.
The crowd you heard was just audio files added in post-production. :)
I believe it's typically referred to as "canned laughter" and is commonly used on sitcoms to help emphasize jokes or important storybeats.
To fully comprehend any of the songs from this special "Inside" it needs to be watched in order. Yes, you can derive the meaning of the song from just the song but the build up of Inside is incredible and brings a whole new level to the individual songs. I would love to see someone to react to the entire special.
All filmed and produced during lockdown in a rented house by himself... all lighting, music, sets all him all alone! He won a Grammy for "Inside"
He presses the crowd noise on the keyboard, what an absolute g
You need to watch the entire special: INSIDE
Watching these in context is a whole different experience!
You're so smart, seriously. You understand nuance and under the surface thinking . I love that. Great job , will be watching more going forward ! Much love girl 💜
I had this song stuck in my head for several months after it came out.
Me too, had to put the hour-long version on repeat lol
Bo: "You say the whole world's ending. [Darling], it already did."
Me: "There it is, again."
That funny feeling, that funny feeling
Spot on with saying that it’s up to everyone’s personal experiences and interpretations. Don’t let negative people on the internet mess up your experience of good music/art. 😁
I think his genius is in taking the suffering that was uniquely his own and _transcending_ it to the root of it, to the "prime mover" of suffering, so that he could relate to _everybody_ and in so doing, _make himself relatable to_ everybody.
Love your reactions! Few quick facts that are probably in the comments already:
1) This is part of his special "Inside" - Filmed alone in his room. The audience sounds are added in by him and show a) How the audience always yearns for a "funny story" from him. b) They enjoy and revel when he talks about his mental health and panic attacks. These are both big topics for him and I think this demonstrates how vulnerable and aware of this vulnerability he feels in his performance niche.
2) He won a grammy for this song. It's an incredible song and you spoke about that fact brilliantly.
3) This is like a sequel to his Kanye Rant song "Can't Handle This" - It is dealing with his anxiety when performing and yet he has a strong desire to perform and entertain, which through his intense self-awareness he often points out may have roots in his desire for attention and adoration from others. These two opposing factors of anxiety/self-awareness vs willingness to perform/desire for attention or affection are always in interplay in his material and it's wonderful to see someone so talented acknowledge this.
4) Being from inside, this song also obviously deals with the pandemic and the matters around at the time. Social media, global warming, civil rights etc. There are many interpretations to this song and all of them have credence.
I have watched most of your bo reaction videos and I know bo very well I was a fan back when he was a tennager making videos in his room. You were very critized in your first few videos only because he was new to you and it takes a minute to see the message between the lines in his songs. I really think your message at the end of the video to those people who said your opinion didn’t matter essentially was powerful and well articulated and it’s 100% accurate, everything you have perceived in life is unique so you relate to songs with your experience! Love the videos and glad you enjoy him as much as I do
He wasn't on stage because this was from Inside. Anything where he has a beard in the video, it's shot from inside his house during the pandemic, he made an entire netflix special in 2020 called INSIDE. It's incredible
if you watch the netflix special that a lot of these songs are from, there's a lot more context right before this song plays that makes it more powerful and emotional and just sad........he made the whole netflix special in his house because of the pandemic....its a masterpiece when watched the way it was intended.....watching it broken up into songs doesn’t give the artistry of Bo's masterpiece the credit it deserves!!!!
You're totally right about the anxieties messaging throughout, but specifically for "Are you feeling nervous? Are you having fun? It's almost over. It's just begun" there probably is some other meaning to it as well, but it reads to me as being very much about the pandemic (as this whole special was). It's great cuz on the first pass, you kinda don't see it, but when it's repeated after his monologue, you have the context of the pandemic in your head and suddenly you see that version of it
I think that line is also about the Kanye-rant he did before he stopped performing. The entire song is a flash-Back to that performance
I think you're right and I love how, like Britt said, this song can mean different things to different people. To me it's about having conflicting emotions at the same time. It's Bo the guy who loves attention and performing (i.e. Art is Dead) trying to convince Bo the guy who was having panic attacks due to performing (i.e. the Kanye Rant) that it's time for them to get back out there. It's the constant internal struggle between wanting to get back to performing and being terrified that if he does, the panic attacks will come back. I guess the pandemic sort of solved that dilemma for him and Inside probably ended up being the best case scenario where he could return to comedy, without the pressure of live performance. ...at least that's my way-more-than-two-cents. 😂
By 8:30 ish, you really got it. What you said about the internal conversation of anxiety is 100% right. And, frankly, if I had to guess - I think the intro verse that he reprises (Are you feeling nerrrvous? Are you having fun?…) is what he says or used to say to himself before performing live if he was feeling panic.
That’s why I think ultimately this song is just basically his love letter to performing live. Between the canned crowd noise (he’s alone in his room), the part about the “whole world ending” - it’s meant to be existential, but it’s also just him being honest about how devastating that whole lockdown timing experience was for him. “Got it? Good, now get inside.”
As Neil Gaiman said in his introduction to Fahrenheit 451, "If somebody tells you what a book is about, they're probably right. If somebody tells you that's ALL the book is about, they're most definitely wrong." I believe the sentiment holds true for any piece of art and this song can mean a multitude of different things to different people. People on here commenting aren't any more or less correct in their interpretation than you are in yours.
Totally agree its what you interpret, i love that everytime i listen to his songs from inside i notice something new and something deeper, he is so talented ❤ love your reactions to his videos
In the 60's when my parents were in college my father took a class just about using profanity. Some people couldn't handle the use of words!
Spot on, Britt. It’s all about your personal experience with the music. This whole album got me through a very tough time and I defy anyone to tell me my experience was invalid. Thanks for doing what you do! I have been waiting for this one and you did not disappoint!
Lol spot on? Nearly every piece of commentary is wrong because she has no clue what this special was.
I think an important line that's repeated throughout the song that all the reactors I've seen missed is, "We're going to go where everybody knows everybody...". It alludes to being quarantined during the worst of the pandemic and being stuck with yourself and whomever may live in your home with you.
This is the best breakdown of this song I’ve seen so far! Excellent
I was able to see this in the theater (it had a limited release for one weekend) and I’m not exaggerating when I say this song was a spiritual experience. ❤
The laugh track over the depressing story is perfect comment on stand-up
Great reaction, respect how you caught the theme and details so quickly. I think your point about everyone having different experiences is so important. For instance, years ago when I was finishing up high school I now believe I had depression, although I didn't realize it at the time. I was basically super numb to everything around me, constantly disassociating, and no longer had any cares about the quality of my life or future. But I was always the person who supported others around me, and multiple people who talked to me about their depression were all deeply suicidal. Well I couldn't have depression then, because I'm not suicidal and I'm not going to pretend to know everything this person is going through. That's just how my teenage brain processed. The reality is that there's nothing we know for sure, what we know is what we experience or can test repeatedly, but everything else surrounding that where we assign values or cause and effect is all conjecture.
You directly hit the nail on the head in the start of the meaning of the song, the audience noise is fake. It's from his special Inside, that he filmed, wrote, everything from his guest house after that Jan 2020 thing happened
"We're going to go where everybody knows" aka we're goin' 'Inside' ;)
yeah spot on. art is always up to interpretation
The audience sounds and cheering are clips on his soundboards, He wanted it to feel like a live setting for the video and he also likes to have strong focal points so he points out the exact parts where the lyrics and stories should hit the hardest hence the soundboard inputs
This song is what he told himself to calm himslef on stage for those 5years break
I love your videos, they seem real - and I think you have some good perspectives.
2:10 for never hearing this song before you hit the nail right on the head lol
I read a comment from someone who pointed out that through this entire special the camera never moves during a scene, except in this song. It zooms in or out and he occasionally captures things from more than one angle, but the camera is never actually moving. So I think when he picks it up in this song and basically spins around with it, he is forcing you into upheaval and to experience some of the chaos that can come with bad mental health. For a second we are not just spectators; maybe we are inside of Bo's mind.
"Honey, the neighbors are hosting a concert again"
Lol 😂 the panorama! The pananana!
one more thing i caught from another reactor is that this song may connect to "welcome to the internet" through the lines "got it? good! now get inside; we're going to go where everibody knows everibody" where 'inside' is a referance to the whole special for one but also to say "you don't have the outside anymore, now go online where all your information (and everibody elses,) is layed bare, a topic he touches on on the other song too, and also troughout the special there are moments where he makes very poiniant remarks about the online culture. all-in-all very deep on its oun, but also very connected to the rest of this one-of-a-kind special
Girl, you did 1,000 times better with this one than I did. Maybe I'm just dumb, but it took me 6 months of thinking about this song non-stop before I figured out exactly what I thought he was trying to express with it. Us Bo nerds do LOVE to tell people exactly what we think his work means, but just like you said, in the end it's all our subjective opinion filtered through our own experiences.
The choice to deepen his voice and add the crowd sound effects was interesting. And there are so many interesting things happening with the cinematography in this one too, from the blue lighting to the projector live streaming the image behind him, to using his hand to manipulate the lighting, to the choice to physically pick up the camera at the end. (Since he's making it himself without a camera crew, it's the only time the camera physically moves during the special, which makes it a really impactful moment visually, I think).
Anyways, don't worry about"getting" everything the first time, and don't be afraid of people in the comments, I think we secretly love when people "miss" stuff so we can share what we think about it! 😂
You nailed the message perfectly
"We're going to go where everybody, knows everybody" My interpretation of this is, the internet. We're going to ignore the world's problems, get inside, and go where everybody knows everybody. The audience laugh track was added by Bo to be ironical, laughing at inappropriate times in his commentary. You're a beautiful human, thanks for the reaction.
I wish this felt like the internal tormant of anxiousness. What it really feels like is exploding your feelings then shoving your head in the sand until you think everyone's forgotten what you said. It sucks...hard
Laugh tracks he inserted when people laugh in a show, even during serious moments
Brit, i loved your reaction, thank you for sharing your thoughts and feelings about different parts of the song and you are really good at this type of thing. New sub incoming. ❤
This is my favorite Bo song right now. I can and have written basically an essay on why it's so great. I think my favorite part though is that it has relatively few lyrics but still has a lot of depth emotionally and in meaning, and so much of that depth is coming from context and subtext--the things he's not saying.
This song gives me so mamy chills.
He's not on a stage. He put these audience sounds in himself during editing. They're apart of the message of the song.
The best part about how good he sounds is that he produced all this himself completely
Here we go. I was getting Brittreacts withdrawals lol. It's become a part of my morning routine to see what she is reacting to haha.
I also took this as a personal conflict/conversation. He's talking to himself, reassuring himself to "re-enter" to the world. Great observation. Also, I love the production, too - I actually still have this on my playlist. It's a great song.
May I also add that I appreciate how nicely you clap back to those who judge your takes on Bo. For example, I've seen people interpret this song at least five or six different ways, and they all seem to apply: the pandemic, depression, climate change, social anxiety, social media pressure.. they can all be separately true, or apply at the same time. You're right on that. I can see you got a little hurt by the comments (especially the Kanye rant comments). Don't take them too seriously, though. We all love Bo & feel he is the voice of our generation, so we can be a little protective about him, but gatekeeping is never an attractive feature.
Pausing before "got it? good now get inside" is almost criminal
Like you're totally spot on about how this could be a hit, I think he could be a mainstream artist if he wanted to be. But his songs are so much deeper than anything mainstream and I think he knows that and I think that's why he makes the songs he does and the performances he does. He doesn't just want to make pop hits, which I think is awesome.
That was fun. You've become my go to Bo person. I'll stick around to see what's next.
I've always felt like when and what he says when he looks at the camera is significant, that it's Very intentional how he makes it feel like he's looking right at you like those words are meant for you
"Don't overthink this, look in my eye-" *Makes direct eye contact with the camera*
But what does it mean?!
This song hits harder with the context of the rest of the special. Once you've reacted some songs from Inside, you owe it to yourself to watch the whole thing through.
Loved this reaction!! Thank you for knowing he meant the pandemic lol, it often goes right past reactors. That said, I do agree w you that Bo's work is very much up to interpretation, he doesn't work with double, triple etc meanings for nothing haha. In my interpretation this song is about the extreme irony that Bo, having a love hate relationship with 'the audience', now he was finally ready to face them again, can't and is stuck in his room. So he talks to the camera instead, getting more and more frustrated as it doesn't say anything or responds at all. That's why he yells "get the f up!!" It's the camera that is an insufficient substitute for true audience feedback .
Best song of the decade so far. Great reaction!
This song unironically slaps
Gotta say, as an Australian it can be hard to relate to Americans sometimes. What I appreciate though is at the start of the video you took a moment to gather your thoughts, think about what you wanted to say, and then delivered it well. I've watched a few of your videos and enjoyed them but that pause to gather your thoughts made me subscribe.
God-damned right. That's one of the many reasons he's so good. I see the painting from whatever I angle I feel in that moment. There's no right answer. Even if the artist says it means something specific it still can mean something else to me. Americans always treat like a pageant or some kinda contest. Having said that I'm from Indiana and still live here.
So much of this special is absolutely down to individual interpretation!
*treat music like a contest. I always leave out a crucial word accidentally and it makes me wanna die
Nailed it, man!
Mania. That's what I feel the song is about, even how it ends with the maniacal laughter at the end. The giving into the madness and the sadness? Maybe? It's an amazing song and I dont think there are any wrong answers. It 100% is about how the song makes you feel which I feel like was his intention. Hes an artist through and through hes transcended the medium of comedy imo.
He's all by himself, recording this !
In the 70's they used Moog petals to distort sound.
The "Kanye Rant" was the LAST time he was on stage. that last yell at the end were not scripted and he ends it with "I hope you're happy." After that, he created this special during the pandemic. Great content.
I've never heard this either, but I said the same thing, he sounds phenomenal and I do believe it's very produced. But I'll continue to listen with you
It's very produced by him
"Is he on stage??"
That hurt.
Laugh track. This looks about a year into quarantine. Everything hits different in the context of the special. It’s worth its own reaction.
I am sorry for how you feel attacked by the comments regarding not understanding the messages implied in Bo songs. I, myself left messages criticizing you for not understanding. So I am sorry for that. (this video is older then my comments but still I feel part of the problem) You are now traying to address this but with all respect: I don't think this is your strong suit.
I'm always hit by the "were not going to slow it, heaven knows we tried..."
Right near the beginning, when people realized just how bad things were going, everyone was saying "let's do this to slow the spread." Bo's right in that, all our attempts to slow it did little to nothing, it all blew up.
Double meaning there too as it follows "You think the ocean's rising, like I give a shit. You think the whole world's ending, honey it already did."
In addition to the obvious Covid connotations that color the entire special, it also speaks on a larger level about the widespread defeated apathy regarding climate change.
I think u missed an important line in that song "hands down, pray for me" which relates to the urge of people to be cherished and praised... hands up to cheer, hands down to pray like to a god
The comedy special Inside is a lot greater than the sum of its parts... And those parts are all amazing so that's saying something
All eyes on me. All eyes on me
audience sounds is an audio effect he adds on a playback device. he Is in a room of his house
I love watching you reactions to Bo, but you should give that whole special a watch. It's a pretty wild ride.
If you watch the special this is from, Bo uses a lot of crowd effects though out. Applause, laughter, that kind of stuff. I am not sure what his intention really was, but the way I took it while watching was it was punctuate the the fact that he was alone and feeling disconnected from the world. He started making this just as the lockdowns were happening and it came out a little more then a year into all of it I think and it was very cathartic to see someone else having the same sort of troubles adjusting to what life was like during all of it. Oh and ignore people who want to tell you that you are interpreting things incorrectly. The expression "Art is in the eye of the beholder" exists for a reason, any form of art gets its being from the person experiencing it and that is no less important the intention of the person who made it. Some people are too worried about others being correct rather then discussion the way different people can experience and interpret the same piece.
Bo is outstanding
good art is open for interpetation, bad art leaves all the interpetations with the same valeu.
full inside reaction hypeeee
the fact, that this is how he handled his mental problems in panda times is mind blowing to me. The whole special is a one man production
Definitely +1 to do the whole special!
knowing that you should watch can´t handle this once again since that was his last show before he quit
All the long hair beardy Bo videos are from the Inside special. All those videos are basically recorded in one room. I know you have to react to them one at a time, but the special as a whole is a pretty great experience, so you should check it out some time as a whole show.
Can't wait to see the second time you react to this.
Britt, you need to watch the entire Inside special. All of the songs are good individually, sure, but when taken in as a whole it paints a complete picture.
FINALLY
Listen to this song as if it's from the perspective of the panic attack.
It's taunting him.
