As a former UL pilot (650 hours of Pterodactyl time) I can tell you that some kind of enclosure to stick your feet in makes a HUGE difference! I always had to tie my pants cuff off as otherwise wind would blow right up there.
@@Blaircraft.Engines yeah, I guess it would be fine here for the couple of days a year it might be nice weather. Very frustratingly we've had three times the normal rainfall & consistently high winds associated with endless storms & low pressure systems rolling across the country this winter. I'm really fed up with it all & have my fingers crossed things will improve sometime. By the law of averages it has to!!
No, I should have ask for more info on that option with the price point. I literally just chatted with them the last 15 mins before leaving the show. It was just for a quick trip Tuesday only.
There should have more info soon on the 103 version. They haven't actually said a price for the 103 version. I was also told they will have both options at Oshkosh this year.
I thought sun and fun started out an ultrlight/homebuilt airshow /display of the latest in technology and flight,,who the hell invited these damn military planes to take over..
I used exactely this bike brake sometime ago... Don't trust it! A full shimano MTB hidraulic system isn't much more complex and could be even lighter... And works a lot better!
$5k for brakes seems ridiculous. This is either Part 103 or EAB, which should mean that anything that works is an option. I am certain that motorcycle components or beefed up or redundant high end bicycle brakes would work excellent and at a price far, far lower than what they are quoting. A Honda Goldwing is certainly heavier than that plane will be and I've never heard of a $5k brake job on one of them.
The same manufacturer that makes the brakes for the new Cirrus, makes the ones referenced here. They are not necessarily needed, just nice if you want to drop the $$$ They sell wheel/brake kits everyday for 8-10k 😬
$5k brakes do seem like overkill for this plane. Also, cable-actuated hydraulics sound like the worst of both worlds? Double the complexity and failure points?
@@moverabc True for pt. 103. I think with all the upgrades it’s in the light sport category. I believe the larger wheels/tires alone push it out of 103.
If they sold a kit even quickbuild would be somewhere in the 20k range. Seems like they are targeting the more wealthy people that have toy hauler full of side by sides want something they can just buy and fly without all the FAA hassle. Problem with those types of people don't want to learn the proper way how to fly and end up getting killed. This kind reminds me of the offroad version of the ICON. Compared to a Badland kit cost 16k they offer building it for you also. It also has folding wings its the old kitfox 3 I think they bought the rights to it.

Blair you are a legend.
so sick seing this in person more than likely will be wanting to get a position come December
Neat! Woulod need an enclosure and windscreen wipers here in the UK :(
Really? Wow. The openness is amazing in my opinion.

Question for you . Would you get one to build hours till you can get a proper plane ? Or just keep renting .
What would be the end goal, career or hobby flying?
@Blaircraft.Engines hobby but would like to fly outside of ohio once in a while that's the biggest hangup no storage space
Did you ask about the electric option that sitting there?
No, I should have ask for more info on that option with the price point.
I literally just chatted with them the last 15 mins before leaving the show. It was just for a quick trip Tuesday only.
Action camera wasn't so stable, not sure what the deal was. However, you get the close up views still. FYI- they will have much more at Oshkosh!
Little sad to hear they are not going to do kits.
True. It would be like a modern legal eagle with folding wings!
That thing is perfect.. I would love to see the Aixro XP40 on one. and on the Solo
What is the deal with those welds?
Nice video, but that plane seems pretty expensive for what’s there
What is your pick for a comparable plane, for less?
Im more worried about those welds look like they hired the first guy who came in told him he can use a stick welder.
now even more bummed I got sick and stayed home. where are you located in the US?
Top rudder aircraft? They’re in the Atlanta Georgia area. However, I made the trip down from Indiana just for Tuesday.
How much for a kit or 2 sent to Australia?
Good question, not sure. They will have both versions at Oshkosh with more info.
40k
THANKS FOR SHOPPING.
It’s about 15 to $18,000 OK worth of cool.
But not 20k?!? 😁 it definitely looks fun and I think the folding wings are a great option though.
That engine alone is probably $7,000...used
Did I hear $40k for that scaffolding? 🤣😂🤣😂 And for that price I gotta build 51%? I'll buy a certified plane with some payload for that price.
A certified plane for 40k 😅
Q. Do I need to heat treat (stress relieve) 4130 after welding?
......... i saw some good fabric work. ! 🦧

Didn’t start as ul airshow. In 1983 UL crowd created paradise city where all the ULs pretty much took the show over. I was there in 84 and had a blast
didnt make osh kosh :?
Good question. I don’t think so…
However, I did see the owner of the company there on Monday.
Gosh. I really need to learn to fly.
There a several nice ultralight options available these days. Badlands ultralight is a nice design too, but not as STOL as this.
More runway construction videos please!
I’m chipping away at it in parallel with the clipper! There will be. 👍

agreed, the cost is the deal breaker for this plane and the brakes are a prime example why.
Been hearing about this for a L O N G time…too long with no visible progress.
Yeah. The company was recently purchased, I believe we will see a lot more of it by the time of Oshkosh.
5grand for brakes? we dont need no stinkin brakes.
As slow as it can land and light, true. It’s possibly more about looks with the fancy brakes/wheels.
@@Blaircraft.Engines I like em.

40000 for 103 is a lot of money. my budget is around 10k

$40k !! So much for low cost flying.
I’m curious of how much less the part 103 version will be…
$40k for a new plane is not bad. Minimum wage in california is $20 an hour. Cost of labor.
