    just got one other day - it was 4 CAD not 6CAD for card itself I think.... also another important thing which we should not forget to mention is that you save a lot with a card instead of paying cash or bank cards, the fare itself is cheaper and on top you got savings and even free transfers (even when moving between cities like I did today using Go bus from Hamilton to Toronto and back)

      It’s practical! And I like it being separate from my other payment cards/devices because it reduces the risk. In case I take out my presto and drop it, I only risk the loaded amount and can lock the card.

    Great channel. ! I have a question - Is it safe on the TTC. ? I live in the UK and plan to visit your city in November.I read a newspaper article recently that said there has been a big rise in violence on the subway recently.

    • @LivinginCanada
      @LivinginCanada  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks! There have indeed been a number of very concerning incidence. If you consider Toronto's baseline which is among the safest cities in the world, then yes, it does seem that violence has increased by a lot. But if you zoom out and look at it on a bigger scale, Toronto is still among the safest cities. I still feel it's safe enough to take the TTC, but with much more increased vigilence. E.g. never stand to close to the tracks, get a glimpse of any unusual activity before stepping into a subway train, etc. Hope this helps!

      If you're planning to travel around the city a lot (let's say 3-4 trips per day), I think it's much more practical to use Presto. The charge for the card will be worth it. Thanks!

    Will the Presto card work on other trains as well? Also does the extra $6 paid to get the card count towards your fare? For example if i paid $6 for the card and then put $20 on there to ride the train. Would i have $26 balance on the card or just $20?

    I am planning on coming to Toronto in about a week and google maps suggested getting the subway to my hotel after I get off the UP at Union. I was searching online and it seems I won't be able to bring my suitcase onto the subway, is that correct? Also, from what I've been reading from TTC, it seems they only allow luggage on the bus? Would be grateful if you could advise please.

    Hi been watching your vlogs! Really helpful for someone who is moving soon to Canada. Thank you! BTW, can I ask, if I purchase monthly PRESTO card, will I be able to use that in GO trains / transit?

    • @LivinginCanada
      @LivinginCanada  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad that the videos were useful! The monthly pass is actually a TTC (Toronto Transit Commission) Monthly pass that is loaded to the Presto Card. Presto itself is just a means of payment. So to take the GO Train you would be charged another fare and would need to load some money on the card (there's a discounted price for using presto to pay for GO). I believe in some cases there's a discount applied when transferring from TTC to GO Train, but not sure if that applies to the monthly pass. Cheers!
      If anyone here has other information about whether there's a monthly pass for GO, please let me know!

      In that case you can just get a one-way fare from the vending machine at the subway station. Unless,,, you're planning to make more than 6 trips per day, in which case it might still be worth to get a Presto card, it's less hassle.

      I'm sorry, I don't remember. I believe you just use it immediately. But not that this is different from registering. To register your card you need to open an account online. Doing this will protect you from losing your balance should you lose your card.

    Great video. I checked out the website and I would like to have your opinion about the TTC 12 month pass. Any idea how it works, and would you recommend it? It says that the price is for 143 CAD which seemed a too good to be true, so what's the catch if any? Thanks.

    • @LivinginCanada
      @LivinginCanada  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've never purchased that one before, but it does seem like a good deal, in general. Of course it really depends on how frequently you travel. E.g., as I only spend around $60/month on single fares using Presto (especially since the pandemic!), it would not be worth it for me to get the monthly or 12 month pass. I don't think there's a catch, I'd just recommend to calculate in detail whether it really turns out to be cheaper than just buying single fares.
