I'm finding this helpful because I am feeling burned out emotionally & mentally. I keep telling myself I'm doing ok in handling things, and people keep telling me that I'm doing an amazing job caring for my husband. I'm just not doing such a good job of caring for myself although I know I need to.

Thank you for discussing this very relevant topic. We are experiencing a shortage of trained caregivers due to the last of the baby boomers getting older now. We need a bigger pool of home health helpers across the board with care, mental therapy, physical therapy, etc.

Thank you for talking about caregiving for loved one with psychiatric illnesses. This is a burden, a différent one but very heavy. Caregiving for people with schizophrenia damages your own mental health.

“Too full”? Do you mean ‘overwhelmed’? That’s what it sounds like you’re saying.

I wish we could talk about taking self care time and how the elderly person you are caring for feels upset if you take a break 👐. All my counsellors tell me to make time for self care and when i do my 88 yr old mother tells me im a bad carer ? If anyone has advice i would appreciate it. Thanku .

Personally, as dealing with dementia and physical weakness, I can be in quite random situation, therefore I find it easier to border on perfection because it’s the quickest way to notice when something has changed.
