This is the plate carrier I am going to go with. Everything about it I like and from a civilian/LEO perspective I believe it’s perfect for almost all applications. Will definitely be buying soon.

USS Ashland had its gym topside above the well deck and that was amazing bc the other ships id been on, they were buried in the belly and I did exactly that. Got lost.
I liked my advanced slickerster, yet I went back to the JPC. The Advancted Slickster was pretty comfy but in my work I needed the ability for more pouches for equipment and medical. It's hard to scale up the slickster past what you see in the video. Great design for assualters and LEO but not for contractor work. Still got love for Ferro.
I have the standard slickster but have the new molle rear plate bag for it. I recently ran it overseas in Macedonia on a training mission, for me as an Infantry PSG in a Stryker unit it worked great.I am not the smallest guy so it made getting in and out of the hatches much more easy for me. I run the slick version of the Esstac Daeodon Front Panel Pouch: Triple 556 on the front along with a dangler by Ferro. For the shoulders you could always tape them down a bit with 100mph tape. I also run the Velocity System low profile slip on shoulder pads. Added a SKD low profile hydo carrier on the back and this was a very comfortable set in time when the temps were hovering around 105°F. If I wanted a full blown patrol plate carrier I would reach for my Scarab LT, but for the right role like Assault work of low profile stuff this carrier is hard to beat.

I agree that the shoulder pads maybe aren't entirely necessary but I found that the mayflower MBAV APC pads are absolutely fantastic. Very minimalist with just enough padding to eliminate the wear from the shoulder strap stitching in my ferro FCPC (the OG to that rig).

I just picked up the original slickster about a month ago and picked up a set of RMA level IV plates for it (1155’s, 10x12). The rear plate fit the rear plate bag fine but the front plate won’t fit in the front bag. It goes all the way in, but the Velcro closure isn’t long enough to secure the plate. I picked up some Velcro and one of today’s projects is to sew on a longer section of Velcro to secure the front plate
I asked this same question a while back and the answers I got basically said that people have had issues with the stitching being lower quality and that overall there was higher quality products out there for close to the same price range. I have owned a 5.11 tactec pc (I have no experience with the new hex grid one) and unless you are a large human, someone who would need 11x14 plates, dont get it. There is extra bulk and material on the shoulder straps and in the shoulder pocket area which can make shouldering and deploying you weapon more difficult. The extra padding in the straps makes wearing heavy steel plates more bearable, and the 8 wide molle grid means you can mount 4 mags to the front instead of 3, but imo the extra bulk doesnt justify being able to carry and extra mag in an easily accessible spot. Get a PC that is low profile, has a streatchy cummerbund with pockets in it, and then get lightweight plates so you dont need as much, if any, shoulder padding. Just my 2 cents, sorry for the essay ;) (spiritus systems overt/covert, coyote tactical solutions qd cummerbund, and either polyethylene or ceramic plates)
The ferro concepts slickster and advanced are both made more for airsoft than actual ops. The shoulder straps have a high fail rate in an actual combat situation. With that said they are extremely comfortable.
Definitely looking forward to the head to head review. The overt and advanced slickster are my first two choices for a plate carrier but info online is fairly thin as far as reviews go......
I’ve been eyeing both this carrier as well as a Spiritus Systems LV119 Overt, they both seem to offer some awesome features but I’m kind of stuck as to which one I prefer. Might be leaving slightly towards the Spiritus Systems on as it seem like there might be some more modularity moving forward if they follow through on promised compatible add-one to make it more mission capable or scaled back to be more minimalist.
If your using plates that are thicker than 1" I would recommend the spiritus. There web site allows plates up to 1.2 inches i have a the RMA 3+ 1.2 inches fits perfect . Talked with Ferro concepts they could not guarantee that my sapi cut RMA would fit.They recommend nothing over 1" .

This seems like a pretty good plate carrier for a LEO to use for an active shooter response. You can throw that over your uniform with your soft body armor underneath your uniform shirt.
