This is the 3985 from my vantage point. Via word of mouth I knew the Challenger was heading north to Milwaukee piloted by engineer Mike earlier that morning. While i'm performing my tasks at work the chatter on the radio announces the presence of this machine. I look west and see hints of roofline but, plenty of smoke gingerly treading northward. Later in the day the train switched pilots and i knew Challenger would head west very soon. I was hoping i would get off work in time to see the train pass through the town of Villa Park. I make it home just in time and i grab my two way radio and rush to the train station. As 3985 passes the station with a thunderous roar. I look into the cab of the passing beauty and see the new pilot, my co-worker and friend Mark . I'll never forget that smile he had on his face while he was shouting to the other crew members over the roar of the locomotive. Sadly , we lost Mark to cancer in 2016. Mark had a genuine love for people. He was a kind and knowledgeable person that loved life. Glad to have known you Mark and, have had many safe trips working with you. Rest in peace brother.
