The best part of The Quiet Place is that John is never making a bad ass face. What I mean by that is that throughout the movie, his expression is "I am scared shitless, what is sleep?" The wife is equally scared shitless but has some of her "faking my shit is together" skills to the point her kids can be genuine with her. The dad is so scared shitless, he's unwillingly alienated the kids. That said, I did not expect to be screaming WHAT THE FLYING FUCK so early on in the movie.

When he connects with her he is shocked because he feels her love for him and that she doesn't hate him despite all he has done, and that she forgives him. And had he was on the verge of switching sides on the spot when the TIEs fire their missiles and he was unable to focus enough to use the force to freeze the missiles in time.
