While Peter-Sam thought it was Duke the lost engine (aka Granpuff), it was really an earl who came to the centenary. The ‘engine dukes’ that Duck was talking about were GWR 3252 classes that really had been scrapped.
I would have loved to have seen Sir Handel's reaction to finding out about 'All Engine Dukes Being Scrapped'. I mean, there could have been a part where Sir Handel glances over at Peter Sam with a worried expression or something to acknowledge to us that both engines had something they were hiding from the other engines.
He should've, because Duck shouldn't have been continuously misinterpreting the situation about Dukes. What Peter Sam was talking about was the Duke from the Mid-Sodor Line, not the Great Western Dukes! (To Duck): Can't you understand that part, for crying out loud??!? We're NOT talking about those Dukes! This is a Narrow Gauge one, not the Iron Dukes or the Earl of Berkeley! [Besides, later on, Thomas met the Iron Duke (possibly a replica) on the broad gauge line at the Great Railway Show he attended at the National Railway Museum at York. Perhaps he must have told you about it?]
Well actually, Duke the Lost Engine, the book in which Mid-Sodor Duke debuted was published in 1970, 5 years after Very Old Engines, so it's highly likely that Awdry didn't plan ahead that far and put a reference in Duck and Dukes.
@@arenjtumastens The Duke that Thomas met was a replica, plus, that story was written by Christopher, and was published in 1991, 21 years after Duck and Dukes.
It would have been hilarious if the cleaners greeted the engines with an alt-metal band. I'm just imagining the drivers and firemen moshing and the Thin Controller headbanging. Oh, the stupid things my mind thinks up.
Mhm, Gunvor and Peter Edwards' illustrations just make me wanna eat birthday cupcakes. They're that pretty and commemorative. Both the two artists gave so much life-like portraiture into these story pictures.
The C Awdry's don't need remastering. It was only books 15-20 and some of the Johnny Morris stuff that needed remastering. The original 15-20 were from cassette recordings (me putting cassette player in front of computer mic) and some of what we had on vinyl had groove jumps. That's all the remastering we're doing. I came across an MP3 CD of all the Morris and Rushton so that's where the remasters come from. I send them to NewController and he puts them with the film previously used.
Peter Sam and Sir Handel (or Stuart & Falcon) were painted green & blue respectively when on the Mid Sodor Railway in RWS: The TV series just reused the models (probably for budget reasons) as the Duke episodes were filmed first (probably). Whilst it doesn’t explain Duncan, it does explain why Sor Handel & Peter Sam are blue & green on the Skarloey railway.
3:37-3:42 About what the Duke said, the one Duck was referring to WERE Great Westerns, but Dukes ARE really people anyway. Some engines are just NAMED as Dukes for special reasons.
I know I'm being factual (Captain Obvious to some of you) but the "Dukes" Duck is referring to are the Iron Duke broad gauge loco, and the 3252 Class which are of course all scrapped. The Iron Dukes have been replicated in some places.
I like Peter and Gunvor Edwards' illustration portraiture like in this book here. So very well-drawn, illuminating, and beyond superb the likes of which any art could possibly manifest to look. I sure wish I had me a splendid skillful talent to make lifelike art as decent and invigorating as this.
Yeah. Also, I love it when someone replies to a comment that was made over 3 years ago. Not like the original commenter forgot he ever wrote such a thing, I mean after 3 years, the comment isn't even relevant anymore. Know what I'm saying?

Yes.

The only story of this book in the present without a flashback story.
Did Duck assume things? Yes he did
Though I do wonder if this got the duke wondering about why Peter Sam asked if he was real.
@@matthewross810 probably
Duck was probably referring to the gwr Duke class of engin wich were all scraped

I love how Duck is one of the more mature engines but isn't above having a little bit of fun and pulling other engines wheels.
I don't think he was trying to prank them, he was just confused and thought they were referring to an engine class by the name of "Duke".
@@at5297 i said that just due to Peter Sam's reaction to the actual Duke's reveal.
Yeah... Brit Alcroft's cartoon take of Thomas and friends made the narrow gauges engines a LOT more colourful
I think it was to make them easier to tell apart.
Mr. Wizard-Knight yeah if culdee fell was in the tv show (when at this rate) I feel they won't all be purple
Mr. Wizard-Knight All the show need to do was pain Ivo Hugh purple and they would have the Rainbow Failway .

GWR 3252 classes
He was still missing.

Duck on a push pull run that's why

Wait Duck told Peter Sam that all the Dukes were scrapped, what about No' 9017 Earl of Berkeley? She's the sole survivor of that class right?
you mean the one at the National railway museum sadly no just a replica
Mercedes Aboagyeadjei No I mean the engine on the Bluebell Railway.
+Dragon Zilla no Earl of berkeley is a DukeDog,a hybrid of a duke and a bulldog
The Southern Terrier oh right.
I guess that Duck was unaware
Hold on in the last picture with Talyllyn and Dolgoch on the botton left is that Douglas I see
i wish its in season 4
the television train is so british
So Duck was referring to the Iron Dukes steam locomotives!
That would make sense.
Peter Sam was also under the impression that the Duke might also be an Engine
No, those are his brake lights
This foreshadows to Duke the lost engine.
he is the headlights are red that means he is going backwards
Fantabidosy! All we need now is Tramway Engines and we're done with the Rushtons. Oh and those five Morris chapters that we've got better masters for.
Is duke great Western
Nah, Duck was talking about GWR 3252 classes which were nicknamed dukes
Why's Rusty Black?
in the railway series rusty was black but in the TV series he was painted orenge cuz of his name
BHarribo Rusty is black in the RWS this is the original colour not the one in the TV show.
And Duncan is yellow on TV
so did the Duke of Stuart and Falcon get scrapped?
I hope not
Skarloey Puffle no duck is talking about a GWR class engine called duke, duke's basis is named prince and is in Wales
Besides, Duke was soon searched and found and restored
Can anybody please mention this story’s tittle in a sentence?
