$50 p/hr is a very fair rate for the customer, not for you! Your level of experience and attention to detail is worth WAY more than that! A beautiful build. Cheers!
Agree . Ridiculous price . We are getting destroyed by such low fees . We are selling to low for such high quality . Think of all the ones pushing mouses on Silicon Valley … anyhow bravo !
Totally agree to an even higher rate. But to be fair, I think the design should be charged differently, specially if you would make more of those, or sell plans, or whatever monetization you could get from it. It would then make sense to dilute the design cost, and charge for your work, time, expertise and materials
Oh, I'd forgotten we were waiting on this. How wonderful this afternoon to see you pop back up in my feed. Eagerly anticipated, fully appreciated. I love the development from the bookcase a few years ago. Congratulations, Chris. Many aspire to heirloom work, few accomplish it. I'm am quite certain this piece will still be proudly adorning somebody's home in 300 years. A masterpiece. Well done, sir.
I really love watching you use all those hand tools. I'm personally not a huge fan of the Japanese style, but watching your videos is still super relaxing and enjoyable. All the sawing, and the joinery, and the chisels - so satisfying! Keep up the good work :)
Been missing the content like this while you've been building out the new shop. This was such a pleasure to watch. Thanks as always for the content and inspiration. I'll be finishing up an entertainment center in my own home this month thanks to the lessons I've learned from you and other youtubers after picking up woodworking a few years ago. Can't wait until I can try more fine wood working like this project in the future. Hope you are enjoying the new shop, sure looks like you are! In my opinion you are worth more than $50 per hour and this piece is worth way more than $15,000.
Imagine gatekeeping technological progress while commenting on a website processing petabytes of data allowing you to view content from around the world 😂 Love the hand tool work but it’s just a different style all together, not better or worse
Beyond a doubt, this has been one of the best TH-cam videos I have watched. You, Sir, are a Master, and I so much appreciate the care you have put into your craft. You are so comfortable in your narration, and the attention to detail is outstanding.
I used to watch New Yankee Workshop on PBS on Sundays as a kid and this is my NEW New Yankee Workshop. The wood working, sounds of the workshop, the voiceover, the editing, the process, and the finished product 🤌
Wow I can feel the passion through the screen, this kind of stuff just jumps out at you when you run into someone who truly loves what they do. This is awesome, everything else I saw on TH-cam I thought was woodworking was nothing quite like this! Great work man!
Absolutely brilliant craftsmanship! This is my favorite channel, only hope that one day I could be able to complete a build as beautiful as your finished build.
You are a true artisan. Not many people get to do what they love and make a living at it. I believe this is the first video of yours that I have seen and I will certainly check others out. This will be the first time I have ever shared a video. My brother enjoys wood working so I will share it with him
I have followed you since 2018 and absolutely admire and respect your work so much. Thank you for letting folks know the number of hours it takes to create such a gorgeous piece. Keep on creating, man.
True craftsmanship brother. If you advertise the right way to reach the rich you could get what that table's worth. The rich does not care about the price. They want what others can't afford. Awesome build.
Fantastic build. Thanks so much for sharing. I've been down other rabbit holes for quite a few months and this was the first video of this type I've watched in quite a while. I had forgotten just how satisfying it is to see someone work with wood and hand tools this way. So therapeutic. Good job on the camera and lighting work.
I thought I was going a little crazy when I started this video, because I swore I saw you build this already! 😆 Thanks for taking the time to walk us through this amazing build. It was well worth a second video to see the amount of time and effort that went into this work of art!
Beautiful work; candid discussion of the economics we craftsmen face in modern times; and a tour de force demonstration of interesting hand tools in use. Quite a post. Thank you! Imagine the pressure the historical masters of these hand techniques felt when their kids needed shoes and they were building every day items in this way for customers with non-regal budgets... Those were true pros. Hard to imagine any of us could ever reach that level of skill and efficiency in today's world of convenience and machine made competition.
$50/hour from an expert craftsman for handmade furniture is very reasonable. The challenge is finding someone with the budget for a table at that cost. Not many people out there with that. But that rate is certainly reasonable. Beautiful table!
Yes definitely would be a challenge finding a buyer for this. I’d probably have to use my online presence to find someone, locally would be really hard.
@@ThirdCoastCraftsman Besides the expense ($15k) kinda big for my trailer home 😀 But seriously, anyone spending that much likely has big spaces… residential or commercial (think high-end office or condo lobby). They may want a pair and the 2nd build will undoubtedly be much quicker (more profit) than the first. Imagine the speed/profit on the 3-3k produced 😀
What a time to be alive, I can log onto TH-cam for an hour and see your flare of Japanese style furniture, then pop over to Pedulla Studios to see some contemporary classical design, and then round it out with some four eyes furniture for the modern design. All of which, are master class craftsmen that have ultra-high attention to detail, and honestly make priceless work.
Absolutely beautiful work. I don't mean to sound covetous at all by saying this following statement; However not only was the build very inspiring, incredible, and an absolute joy to watch, but your tools were making me dream of having such an amazing shop one day. The quality of the chisels, how sharp they were, the massive lumber pile, just really everything about your shop and this project are the dream for many. You are blessed, and I'm very happy to have the opportunity to have the mini apprenticeship of your knowledge.
Wow! Very impressive work. I see this as a full project to be sold (plans, video, etc.). Your editing and commentary are great. I agree with others, $50/hour is too little.
This is amazing work Sir. I really have enjoyed your content and all the effort you put into everything you do. Like you, I first learned about woodworking from my grandfather, and I have just a couple of his tools in my shop. He's passed on, but I feel his presence when I'm in the shop sometimes. It motivates me to put all I have into everything I build. I look forward to seeing your future projects. The heart that you put into your work isn't lost on me. Thank you.
Thanks so much for the kind words Jason. Grandpa’s sure do know how to have a profound impact on a young man’s life. Glad you have a couple of his tools to use and charish
Wow Chris, your skill and execution is beyond words. Beautiful design, amazing attention to detail and your video storytelling is spot on. Amazing video. I was thinking you deserve a pbs program. The episode can be design, then build execution. Your content is my favorite on TH-cam. I wish someday to to do 1/4 of what you can do.
Just stunning. I love Japanese inspired woodcraft. I really want to learn how to do stuff like this. One of my favorite parts of this (and it seems so simple) is the way the vertical supports come through the middle shelf where you've knocked down the edges. Just a cool look. If craftsmanship like this isn't worth $50 per hour, Ikea has won.
You are very welcome! I enjoy watching you work. I think you have more patience than I have. And when you do nice work and make a quality video that can entertain, instruct, and inspire, you deserve everything that you receive.
Almost all of the comments here are so right. That is so a Beautiful job/work/art/ and handmade, specially all of the fittings and cuts. Without mentioning design. Keep the good great work and thank you for sharing it with all of us. Best regards from Germany. 😊
Incredible work. It's amazing to watch you use mostly hand tools, and you make it look easy. Most people use as many machines as possible. But what you're doing here is just raw talent. Bravo
Beautiful work as always, Chris! Add me to the list of folks who appreciate videos with this level of narration and depth. I would guess other furniture makers appreciate the discussion of the process and thoughts behind the hows and whys; I, for one, always pick up useful tips for my own furniture from these videos. Case in point: the 10 degree guide to pare sliding dovetail cheeks!
Thank you. It’s a LOT of work doing the voiceover actually. I’m terrible at it and it takes me forever so I’m glad it was worth the effort and people appreciate it
Wonderfully well-resolved piece and excellent presentation. I like your reasoning around putting in the hard yards in the design/build, keeping the piece, and relying on TH-cam to recover costs.
You are such an inspiration! The detail and love that you put into your wood work comes through your video story. Thank you for sharing your passion with us.
English it´s not my first language so I have no words to describe how amazing and beautyful this wooden piece is.I am really impressive the dainty and thorough way you work.Congrats.
What an amazing build, and such a beautiful result! Your level of craftsmanship is outstanding; I always love watching your videos! Thank you for sharing!
Another extremely interesting feature built with your talented hands. Been a fan of yours for years now. You still truly amaze me with your talent drive to try anything. Thank you Sir
The final taps of the top sliding into lock and your face , yea that's the money shot. Your eyes showed your joy as it came together. Great work, way way way above my skill level 👏 👌 💪 👍 🙌 💯 👏
I am so impressed and inspired! I have been only woodworking for a few years and it is my passion but I do get apprehensive taking risks at trying to improve myself with intricate joinery. I can only improve if I try and I thank you for the motivation! I too love East Asian influences and you did it such justice! You are one of my favorite craftsmen to watch and this was amazing!
Thanks so much August. I appreciate that! It’s definitely can be nerve wrecking pushing yourself with new techniques but I’ve always been really happy when I do. Even if I screw it up I still always grow my skills and learn from my mistakes when doing so. So don’t be too apprehensive my friend, I have faith in you!
Absolutely love watching your work. I bet you could release the same video with no voiceover, just straight ASMR and soothing background music, and it would do really well.
I would to be able to just release videos with no taking like some guys do. The voiceover part is my least favorite on the edit and I would love to not do that haha. Might try just tool sounds next time
Chris, what an amazing piece of furniture. The attention to detail and sliding dovetails was perfect. Only thing missing was a visit from Utz… I hope he’s still around.. keep up the great work. Thanks for sharing this with us.
I very rarely comment. This is a beautiful piece and it is a privilege to watch such a fine craftsman going about his art. Lovely camera work too. Thank you
So many woodworkers on youtube try to post every week or more, either to satisfy the demands of their sponsors or just to create a ton of content. However a lot of it useless both as entertainment or education. I really appreciate that you post your content less often but it is always well worth the watch. I hope you can make this model work for you. Beautiful work as always.
Spectacular. Quarter sawn white oak and black walnut are the most beautiful woods. Thanks for sharing.

I came here to say this. If it was 300 hours of work, the price is too low. His Skill, Expertise, and Time are more valuable than that.
Lmao. I charge more for cuttingboards.

The sliding dovetails on the top were a nice addition. It turned out beautifully.

Ditto. Glad to have him back. Missed Utz in this vid I hope he’s still around?
Amazing build, Thank you !
No resin, no cnc. An actual wood worker. Keep it up. 💯👌🏾
To say CNC and resin aren't woodworking is pretty toxic, IMO.
Imagine gatekeeping technological progress while commenting on a website processing petabytes of data allowing you to view content from around the world 😂
Love the hand tool work but it’s just a different style all together, not better or worse
@@jetah50 Yes, resin is pretty toxic 😂😂
@ only before it's cured, however, being a toxic person last a lifetime!
I don't know, he's using electricity...
Genius design and execution.
Beautifully made, Chris! Thank you so much for sharing.
Without doubt one of the most beautiful pieces of furniture and craftsmanship I have ever seen. The sliding dovetail joint was brilliant. Thanks Chris
Thank you!

True craftsmanship brother. If you advertise the right way to reach the rich you could get what that table's worth. The rich does not care about the price. They want what others can't afford. Awesome build.
stunning skilled craftsmanship - just working out the concept nevermind the execution of the carpentry both of which are amazing
