    • @PBTophie
      @PBTophie 5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      It's actually involuntary manslaughter, which typically sees a sentencing of 10-16 months. The sentencing can be increased if the series of events was affected recklessly; such as what happened here with the swatting and wrong address.
      I live in Wichita, and I remember when this happened. While a man did die, and the matter shook the community for a bit, I think 20 years is extreme. The swatting guy is a total shitbag, yes, but I would recommend seven years max. What he won't learn in seven years, he won't learn in 20. After seven years he's less and less likely to assimilate back into society, and more likely to observe only prison life and become a lifelong reprobate.
      American prisons are overpopulated, and such lengthy imprisonments are supported by prison corporations to increase their federal funding.
      Prisons don't merely exist to punish. They exist to also rehabilitate. We hate this guy now for - again - being a shitbag, but in sentencing we should be mindful of rehabilitation efforts and what kind of person he could be after said rehabilitation. We do a disservice to mankind when we throw bad people into violent, over-crowded prisons without acknowledging their capacity for redemption.

      @Emilia Barzini Just because he didn't mean for someone to die doesn't mean he isn't responsible for that person's death. That guy wouldn't have died if Bariss hadn't sent the SWAT team to his house, regardless of the intent.

    • @simisoner
      @simisoner 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @Emilia Barzini Intent isn't really a factor aside from calling it manslaughter. His actions, which were already illegal, costed someone their life. Regardless of whether he meant for that person to die is irrelevant, they died. And his life's story doesn't matter either.

    • @Lemegeton300
      @Lemegeton300 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @Emilia Barzini are you fucking serious. If I threw a grenade , that may or may not be live , randomly into the street , eventually someone is going to die. Its irrelevant if I intended that specific person to die. That's basically what vermin like him were doing with swatting.

    • @jaromor8808

      @@Lemegeton300 Stop playing stupid someone might take it seriously... He did not throw a grenade, he sent to someone's place a team of supposedly intelligent professionals who were supposedly able of making rational decisions... He was sadly mistaken. Which leads me to the possible reason behind the dislikes - maybe it should have been mentioned that the swat team is partly to blame here too... At no point did the (now dead) guy present a threat to the swat team who wear bulletproof vests, helmets, shields and have time to prepare for someone answering the fkin door bell.

      here's the problem with ur "logic " the swat team is not the same as the police. they are trained to shoot because they are usually only called in during a life or death situation. in this case all the team knew was that there was a hostage situation and they came to save a life. they were not aware that they were walking into a hoax. they could not have possibly known that not only was there no kidnapping but also that this man wasn't even the intended target of the caller. the kidnapper was assumed armed and dangerous they don't have the luxury of having a good ol chat when they break the door in. if this was a real situation you'd be rejoicing that the swat team shot first because then an innocent child would have been saved, but. because they shot an innocent man instead they are seen as disgusting pigs that deserve punishment when all they were doing was their job so that can go home and not in a body bag themselves. I swear common sense is dead.

      Your a fucking idiot. Have you ever spend days of your life training for these expect situations on a Swat team. I have. In a mass shooting or hostage situation your one goal is to stop that perceived threat. these situations are extremely violent and fast paced. Thats how you do it. Going in slow just gives the perp time to kill. They had information about a man holding at gunpoint. You go in and try to get control of the man. His actions justified the perceived threat to other; weather it was a fast motion and they couldn't see hands or if he just moved in the wrong way toward police in a dark environment. The team acted exactly how your supposed to in a deadly situation to save others. It just happened to be a false situation that as of now there is zero way to prove otherwise until afterwards.
      So how about you train for these things, find out exactly how it is supposed to handled, and see if you make the same call. (plus I garentee this officer is struggling to live with the chose everyday due to another persons sick call).

      It wasn't police, it was SWAT; all the difference in the world. SWAT are sent in specifically to handle high-risk, violent encounters with criminals. If I recall, Barriss said the man was unstable and had two hostages, and planned to set the building on fire to kill them and himself. You just can't afford to second-guess in a situation like. Don't blame SWAT, they were just doing what they were trained to do, blame Barriss.

    People like Tyler should never gain access to the internet whatsoever. What he has caused for the family and friends of that victim, is just absolutely horrific. Glad that he’s gonna be in jail for a long time
